Remarks

I have no bad remarks about college. As its been said that we won't realise the worth of what we got until it's gone we start realising how great our college is once we're out.

Entrance Preview

I did not take any entrance exam. Admission was based on merit 12th standard percentage. I scored 96.9% which fetched me the rank 314 given by SASTRA based on merit. I opted this college because it has got best faculty for Mechanical engineering.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Electives were divided into sets every time. 4th sem onwards we were given chance to choose electives based on our choice. One elective from one set number of sets per sem used to vary between 2-4 and we got a chance to finish the 4 subjects we have to finish in 8th semester to finish beforehand starting from 4th sem. It was called Open electives which gave us the chance to dedicate our entire 8th sem for project work. It needed us to score 75% every sem to make us eligible for open elective course.

Internships Opportunities

I did my final year project outside the college in DRDO. We were given chance to do projects outside if we have finished all 4 courses previously in the form of open electives. People who did not finish also got the chance to do so but they have to come back before february to attend the classes and write exams from 2nd Mid sem onwards. However my college doesnt offer any stipend for projects done outside. For internships it depends on the company you choose.

Placement Experience

5

Placements was one of the most compelling reason to make people choose SASTRA. Almost all students who scored above 60% will definitely get a job. Packages varied between 2.8lpa-14lpa. I do not remember all companies that came for recruitment. Some of them being TCS,Accenture,IBM,Amazon,Paypal,Microsoft,MuSigma,Mahindra, ELGI,Ford, hyundai,Ashok Leyland etc.

College Events

5

We have 2 cultural and 1 technical fests to celebrate in an academic year. 1 Intra college cultural fest called Carpedium whill be celebrated in the month of AUG-SEP and Inter college cultural fest Kuruk Sastra will be celebrated in the month of February. The south india's second largest techno management fest Daksh will be celebrated in the month of Feb.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is on a bit less side when we joined though they increased it later. 35k for semester and 6-16k for hostel every year depending on type of room you take all are non-ac and 2800-3000 for mess every month. It counted out 7 lakh for me at the end including everything laptop and personal.

Fees and Financial Aid

College is tied up with City Union Bank (CUB) to provide students loans based on their financial status if eligible students will get full 8 sem fees as loan with no interest or very minimal rates. Every year college gives back 10-20% of fees to the students who performs well. First 2% of merit students will get 20% scholarship as 3-10% will get 10% of fees as scholarship.

Campus Life

4.5

Extracurriculars were always encouraged in college. We have a very big play ground and an excellent football field. 2 tennis courts,1 near boys hostels and 1 near girls, outstanding indoor stadium for badminton, table tennis, snooker and a good gymnasium. We have a dedicated robotics club, and BAJA club,Physics club etc to engage students with practical experiences.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel facilities were excellent. Though there used to be water problems our college used to bring tankers everyday to quench the scarcity at max. Though we faced some difficulties with mess food initially,it gotten better with time as caterers changed.

Exam Structure

3 mid sem exams,2 subjects a day for 1 and half hr each with 2 hrs gap in between. Best two will be considered to calculate the internals out of 40. 10 Marks for conduct and assignments. External for 100 marks and final score in externals will be counted for 50 and added with internals to decide the grade.

Faculty

4

No college is without flaws. Same way no college is without imperfect staff structure. My college isn't an exception. There were very few less knowledgable lecturers but still we have got great professors as well. The ones who taught subjects like Heat transfer,Metallurgy and Thermodynamics managed to create long lasting impression by their way of teaching.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum of each course is different and it is followed by the guidance of Anna university, we have several topics and it is under the regulation of 2021 respectively, I feel this easier to learn and there comes an opportunity to do what we learn in theory hour in our laboratory hour it will make more connected to our course, but there is lagging factor that is we are far away from the modern world and we need to put effort to compete with. The exams are not difficult and the frequency of the exam is quite manageable.

Students are eligible from 3rd year for placements and also who don't have standing arrears ,if they have standing arrears the clg management will remove them from placements and also the Placements are very poor . The average package is 350000/year . And the maximum package is 15L Last year nearly 100 students out of 180 in cse dept are non-placed , they are forced to write higher studies letter and submit in college . Even though they won't help for any placement side.
