Remarks

I chose to attend UFYLC, Jaipur, as the college is a government law college and is quite close to my residence. The fees are moderate and the facilities provided are fine. A major drawback is placements, the college doesn't provide any placements. The course is as per the BCI guidelines and there is a comprehensive evaluation of the student's progress, throughout the semester. The infrastructure is not so great. The academic library is all right and is updated timely. The staff is decent. There are inter-semester activities and annual seminars conducted yearly. Another setback is that the college doesn't provide sufficient time for an internship. One has to either opt for after college hours internship or a short internship for 15-20 days, i.e. the time the college is off after year-end (usually mid-June- first week of July). The only reason to prefer this college over others is if you're a resident here and wish to attend a college that is close by and affordable.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

The course curriculum is set as per the BCI guidelines. However, the course is tougher, if compared to GLC Mumbai, BVDU, Sinhgad Law College, and Mody university. Where most law colleges offer 3-4 subjects in the initial semesters, UFYLC provides 6 subjects for all ten semesters. There are 14 weekly tests with 6 projects & vivas. There are no mid-seems. The students are evaluated for internal marking on attendance, projects & vivas, weekly tests, and participation in extracurricular activities. The student-teacher ratio is 60:1. The faculty is qualified and teaching methods are lecturelike. Only for some subjects, classes have discussional teaching. The viva voce & examination timetables are erratic. Exams are usually scheduled for May and December but mostly get postponed to mid-June and mid-January. Even the last weekly tests are conducted twice weekly due to mismanagement. Due to this, many students lose internship opportunities.

Placement Experience

1

There is no placement cell in the college. The college does notify about legal job/training opportunities as they come. To date, only once, ASG came for 2 campus placements and that was all. Companies do not visit the college, there is, however, a university-level job fair conducted where one can discover job opportunities. But as such, there is no hiring process. Very few students get placed, only one has been known to have got placement in Google, one in Reuters, etc. Most graduates prefer state judiciary services or litigation. Mayank Pratap Singh, the youngest judge of India, is a student from the 2019 batch and my just senior from this very college. Last year (2019), 25 students of the college made it to the Rajasthan Judiciary services (RJS). I wish to join the corporate sector after gaining some experience in litigation.

Fees and Financial Aid

The facilities are not worth the college fee. The fee structure is moderate but the facilities students get in return, aren't up to the mark. The college does not provide any scholarships, placement cells, financial assistance, or job opportunities. However, notifications for upcoming internships and job opportunities are regularly circulated. The fee is approximately a Lac annually, apart from which, one also has to keep in mind the transportation charges, residential charges (if in PG/hostel), and food (accordingly). Books are provided for study but only during college hours. The students can get a maximum of 3 books issued, which is problematic as there are a total of 6 mandatory subjects.

Campus Life

3

The campus life is not so monotonous. There are timely inter-semester competitions (debate, poster making, sports meet, moot court, cultural fest), interdepartmental fests and annual seminars, and MUN & national moot court competitions. There is the National Ranka Moot Court comp. held in Sep/Oct, a national seminar in April, sports meet in Feb, and MUN in July. Students also participate in inter-college events like BITS Pilani sports meet, Youth Fest RU, MUNs, etc. Some students are also part of NCC & NSS. The library mostly has the course law books, but it also has Oxford journal papers. Although the college doesn't have any social groups/clubs or even websites, activities are conducted periodically. Students are also yearly familiarized with seminars on accessing Manupatra, making a CV, etc.

Interview Experience

4

To get admission into UFYLC, one has to clear the RULET examination, followed by an interview. If a candidate makes it to the first merit list, s/he then gets admission to the institution. The exam pattern is General knowledge, English, basic knowledge of the law, and simple math/logical reasoning. The level of the paper is very easy as compared to CLAT. Even the interviews are easy. A candidate is asked basic questions like why he wants to opt for the legal field, his family background, his achievements, interests, and skills. There are also group discussions, a topic is picked from a chit and the candidates are required to discuss and present their views. I had already prepared for CLAT and Symbiosis law exams, I even passed interviews for Symbiosis and Mody University. I only had to study the regional GK for the RULET paper. The interview was very easy for me. The GD was not that easy. There are legal topics for group discussion. My topic was on NJAC & the amendment.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Thr curriculum is designed in a way as a usual law college but the benefit of this college is that we have legal aid clinic , which the students have the opportunity to join. In curriculum we also have variety of electives till 4th yearof college. Which i think is good as students might get the opportunity to explore other subjects related to law and not related to law. The exams are held twice a semester and the difficulty level depends upon the faculty setting the question paper. Usually the difficulty level is of othe law universities. For improvement wise i dont have any suggestions

Placements from the campus for law students is not that good and honestly I don't think the student should rely on the campus placements instead they can participate in different events and improve their CV for getting a good job . The internships play a vital role in the career of a law students . Law students mainly focus on the judiciary exams and if not that then they can go for the corporate sector or litigation after that . Else they can also prepare for other exams such as UPSC or also go for higher education
