Course Curriculum Overview
Academic years starts in August every year. Yearly Non – Semester University examinations are conducted in August by The Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical University.This is a 4 years Bachelors degree course . First 3 years of theory and practicals and the 4th year is a compulsory Internship to be done at various branches of M N Eye Hospital Pvt. Ltd. , Chamadhi Nethralayam Eye Hospital and Vision Centres .
Placement Experience
In the Internship period the students are exposed to various specialties ( Cataract, Cornea, Retina, Glaucoma, Pediatric, Orbit ) in Ophthalmic eye care and the latest Investigation equipment’s. Interns familiarize themselves with using of highly advanced equipment’s like Zeiss Humphry Field Analyzer , OCT , Fundus Imaging , Corneal Topography, Specular Microscopy, C3R For Keratoconus, A and B Scan , ZEPTO -Robotic Phaco Cataract surgery, etc.A special exposure to Schwind LASIK laser and Zimmer (Z4) Femto Lasik at Chennai Lasik Laser Foundation (CCLF) will also be part of Internship.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Respective four years fee structure is 1lakhs, which amounts to Rs. 4lakhs at the end of the course duration. The fees structure is expensive because optometry is one such course, in which it is hard to get teachers and professors and also the internship and exposure adds to it.
Campus Life
Laboratories form an important part of this course and therefore there are laboratories present in our college, well equipped. There is a library, a canteen, big lecture halls and seminar rooms. Gender ratio is equal. And no discrimination is made.
Admission
Applicants should have passed their higher secondary examination (+2)with Science subjects (Physics, chemistry, Biology and Maths/Computer Science or Physics Chemistry, Botany and Zoology). Application form is to be filled up which is available on the college's own website.
Faculty
Very different faculty team is created here as it's not easy to get teachers or professors to teach such course and therefore it's an excellent team all together. They provide constant support and guidance to the students which is remarkable.
