Electronics and communication in SDMCET DHARWAD

There are both positive and negative remarks, I can think of, if we start with postive the food and the cleanliness in the mess of the College and in all the canteens (there are two canteens and a Bakery in the College) is excellent when compared to other Colleges, the College has a well maintained infrastructure and clean environment, with great gardans and a lot of trees, the faculty in the College are also good but there are few exceptions (wrt to teaching), there is a very very strict anti raging comity and even without the comity, we don't see raging as a thing on the campus and even off campus in the environment of our College. The negative remarks are that the exam tyoe, It more of memory based than skill, students arnt not challenged based on there skill, but they are challenged based in how much can they remember even if they don't actually know the exact use or meaning of it.

The course curriculum is set by VTU for our College as our College is a just a autonomous institution which runs its own exams but the curriculum is set by VTU. As the curriculum of vtu is very fixed and not flexible it is hard for few students to not choose the subjects which they live 4 out of 6 subjects are fixed by the VTU and there are only 2 electives from the 3rd year. Scope for research depends on the students interest and the faculty, but as the curriculum and the timing fo the College is so hectic that 99.9% of the students would be tired after the College for more of research and won't try anything new.

The placement activities are good but most placements are from I.T companies, less of core branch based companies, so the ratio of people being placed in computer science and information technology is very high, next comes electronics and communication as they are fesiable in both core and I.T sectors, there are core companies which come for recruitment but they only pick few students like the maximum of 6 to a minimum of 1. Internships are offered by the companies in 8th sem for six months, and most of them are students who are selected for the jobs and only they get those internhips in their respective companies, off campus internships are allowed in summer vacations and in 8th semester only.

There is one national level fest in the even semester every year and one College level fest every year in the odd semester ,named as Insignia and Feista respectively ,every 4 years there is a all India SDM meet where all the SDM College come together in one of there Colleges and there are various activities among them which also includes sports and other activities. Many other Colleges participate in the national level fest and it is great fun an students get opportunity to showcase their talent and interest, by conducting both technical and non technical events.

If the students seat is from the entrance exam named K-cet without scholarship form the government his fees would be around 45-60 thousand per year, the fees has to paid at the beginning of the year and cannot be paid in parts, how ever the College most of the times give permission to pay the fees in parts to some but it has to be paid before the i ternals start that is within a month of the College starting. If the students seat is from the examination named comed-k his fees varies from 1.5 lakh to 1.9 lakh rupees. Which again has to be paid the whole amount in the beginning of the year.

There are scholarship and loans available, but not by the College they are by the government of Karnataka or by the banks, if a student has a good K-cet score and his family income is less than the required, there is a fee consition by the government and the student just have to pay around 20 thousand rupees per year (otherwise he would have paid around 60 thousand ). There is also scholarship by the government called e-pass for students who are persuing their degree (and do not come under the category of general merit) the criteria is that the income of the family per year should be less than 1 lakh rupees, then the student gets 18 thousand to 20 thousand every year and if he stays in hostel he gets around 30 thousand rupees.

There are extracurricular activities like, there is one national level fest in the even semester every year and one College level fest every year in the odd semester ,named as Insignia and Feista respectively ,every 4 years there is a all India SDM meet where all the SDM College come together in one of there Colleges and there are various activities among them which also includes sports and other activities. There are technical and non technical workshops time to time frequently in every semester. And students can get into the College team for inter College sports meet there is a physical education department which takes care of the selection and accommodation of the teams.

No, Haven't opted for Hostel, but the rooms are decent and the average rent with mess is around a 50 thousand per year, if you are a local and you are supposed to have your meals in the College (as I am), the cost of breakfast in the mess is 30rs which includes unlimited of what ever that's made that day with tea/coffee, and the cost of lunch in the mess is 40rs (except for Saturdays as we do get a big icecream in Saturday). Everything in the mess is unlimited except for the Saturdaya icecram.

There is a alumni section and I have seen a lot of them visiting the College, and reaching out to students, and most of the times it's the teachers who would have asked them to address and guide us, most of them are friendly and helping except when they are busy with their own work.

There are two exams to get into Engineering Colleges in Karnataka K-cet and comed-k, I had written both the exams my comed-k result was better when compared to cet, so I decided to opt a seat thought comed-k, while in the comed-k counsiling, my 1st choice was computer science 2nd was information science and 3rd was electronics and communication. I couldn't get the seats for my 1st and the 2nd course in any of my preferred Colleges as they where already booke in the counsiling by the students of higher rank than me, so I opted for my 3rd option that is electronics and communication which was available in SDMCET DHARWAD.

Most of the senior faculty hold doctorate degrees in their specific fields, but there are every kind of teachers in every College, in our College teachers are patient and do not try to control or play mind games or hold grudges aginst any students. As far as the teaching is considered it varies from person to person, but I would say that they teachers are always there to help in our College if we need them on or off colelge hours.
