Reviewing SRM Institute of Science and Technology

SRM is a wonderful place to be in. If you want to have the time of your life and end up with a decent placement, then this is a place for you. However, if you are ambitious or crazy for knowledge, you might want to check out other institutes.

The course and curriculum designed to appear very beautiful and compelling from outside but once you go through the courses, you understand those are nothing but false hopes. Honestly speaking, classroom teaching in SRM takes you nowhere and doesn't groom you for placements. However, here you will always find some serious students, with whom if you self-study can bag you wonderful placement offers.

Placements in SRM is quite nice. Almost everyone gets placed at the end of placement season. Different companies visiting the campus are Delloite, KPMG, EY, Amazon, Cisco, TCS, CTS, Wipro, Infosys, IBM, Capgemini, Hyundai and many others. The college does provide additional classes for placement purposes but those are only for low-salaried jobs.

When it comes to festivals, SRM rocks again. All year round there is some of the other festival hoping on, be it cultural events or fests. Two of the widely celebrated fests are Aarush (technical fest) and Milan (Cultural fest). Both the fests are very big and capture the participation of students across other states as well.

Fee charged by the college is exorbitant, considering the kind of education and placements that we receive. Payments are made online via NetBanking. Additional fees for admission need to be paid but there are separate fees needed to be paid for exams every semester. The college does provide complete transparency in fee-breakdown however all those charges are extremely high.

Getting a scholarship here is pretty difficult. You are eligible for a Scholarship only if you feature within top 50 in SRMJEEE or have topped your Class twelfth boards. Other than this some sort of scholarship opportunities are available to people who are their department toppers. For the scholarship of the first kind, you get your entire tution fees waived.

Campus life in SRM is again pretty awesome. Wherever you belong from, you will fall in love with the campus. Spreading across a 250 acres space, it has all possible amenities that you can wish for, starting from Cricket/Football fields, racing tracks, courts for basketball, badminton, lawn tennis, etc. Technical and non-technical clubs are also present in ample numbers and you will surely engage in one or many.

Hostel facilities are quite nice. Rooms are cleaned every day and mess food is also very hygienic although tasteless. Hostels are of different types AC 2 sharing - 2.5lpa, AC 3 sharing - 2 lpa, Non-AC 2 sharing - 1.3 lpa, Non-AC 3 sharing - 98K p.a. PGs are also available nearby at around the same costs.

Seniors are super helpful if approached to. Alumni network is also good (not great). However, if you want to shine out, it's you and your hard work.

Semiconductors always interested me from an early age and it was no surprise that I took up this course. Failing to make to the tier-1 colleges, this was the best option available with me and so I decided to move on with it. As a part of admission processes, I took up the SRMJEEE exam and on getting a decent percentile, I was eligible for counseling.

Sadly speaking, this is a place where SRM fails miserably. With all its beautiful infrastructure, SRM fares the lowest in terms of its faculty. Very few faculties are there whom can you consider or you can go to if you have serious doubts. Others, well somethings are best left unsaid. However, my advice if you are looking for quality education or concerned about raw knowledge, consider not going for SRM.
