Review of SRM INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

The management has a lot of power and they try to misuse it in a lot of matters. You can't raise your voice against management otherwise strict action is taken against you. The faculty do not teach well and the quality of education is overall low. Students end up giving more exams per semester than to get time to study for it. Overall the class schedule is very tight and strict.

Course curriculum is very wide and diversive. The course covers all the topics from basics to advanced with exams testing students on the knowledge gained through the course. Exam structure consist of 1. CT1 Exam 2. CT2 Exam 3. CT 3 Exam 4. Model practical 5. Surprise test 6. University exam 7. University practical exam

No the college does not help in providing internships. We need to find internship ourselves. Placements are good but majority of the students get placed in IT companies irrespective of the branch. But placements in core branches other than computer science is extremely poor.

There are two manor fests, techfest aarush and cultural fest milan. Other than that each branch has one of its event in one year. Onam and pongal are celebrated in auditorium with some dance and music events.

It is very expensive. We have to pay a fees of 2 Lakh rupees per year. Other than that we have to pay 84000 rupees as fees for hostel, mess and 15 thousand rupees per year to avail laundry facility. So we have to pay a total of twelve lakhs rupees for four years of engineering. Other than that we are asked to pay 6000 rupees per semester as exam fees. And in eight semester we are asked to pay 2100 rupees as alumni fees.

Loan facility cam be very easily availed in the college, during councelling you can meet representatives of various banks and ask them about all information. Scholarship is provided only to students whose paternal salary is less than 2 lakhs rupees per year amd who have cgpa above 7.

College has a huge auditorium for cultural events. Labs are well maintained. There is no specific focus on sports other than volleyball and basket ball. Sports facility is not proper. There is one common ground on which majority of the students play cricket, football etc.

Hostel infrastructure was very bad. We had a small room on a 3 sharing basis. The toilets were very dirty and not properly cleaned. There is no provision of hot water in the hostel. The toilets were very dirty. I would rate it 1.5/5

College has a good alumni network and some of the alumni are invited over the year to meet with students and to tell them about latest innovations in the field or to clear students queries. There isn't much interaction between juniors and seniors because of strict schedule and different hostels for junior and seniors. The college alumni aren't much useful as not every alumni participate in the events organized by college.

There were two rounds to get admission. The first round was written test which consisted of three sections physics, chemistry and maths each containing 30 questions to be solved in one hour, so a total of 90 questions to be solved in three hours. After written test each student was assigned a rank according to which they were called to participate in councelling in which we are asked to select branch based on the seats left in that branch.

The majority of the faculty are atmost mediocre, who do not even teach well in class. Most of the teachers are passouts from SRM itself or from colleges located in chennai. Only very few faculties have done phd and teach well.
