Review of SRMIST Chennai

The student Life is the best thing about this college. The college timings are uncomfortable and the quality of teaching skills is low but the campus life is good enough to balance it out. Overall, it's a good College.

The course curriculum is one of a kind which was designed by the University itself. It entails courses with credits. Each semester has 4 exam sessions where the total marks of a student for the semester are calculated based upon the credit for the subject. This gives the grade category of the subject. The Course Curriculum is really varied and difficult to understand but it's doable.

My college is majorly known for its placement sessions. Internships are commonly undertaken by students of the final year. The old placements are known to be really great for students with big companies generally recruiting capable students.

My college has many clubs and organises 2 big fests each year. We also have our very own MUN. Talk shows and performance by singers are organised frequently. Great personalities are also invited often for e.g. Kailash Satyarthi visited our college very recently for having a talk session with the students.

The fee structure is expensive if the student doesn't have a scholarship program. The fee is different for different courses and their respective specialisations. If the student gets good enough grades in his school or obtains a great rank in the entrance exams they can study in the college for almost no fee. The hostel fee, however is really high if a student opts for a good room.

Scholarships are offered based on the students marks in the entrance exams where the topmost rankers get free admission and high achievers get scholarships upto 25%,50% or 75%. Students also get a 25% fee reduction of their school marks are upto grade.

Labs are well maintained with 4 caretakers for every Lab. Sport activities are also given importance but not upto a big extent. The college fests are attended by students of many colleges from across the country and some international students too. The negative point is that sport activities themselves are not undertaken by many students.

The Hostel has 35 rooms on each floor and has 10 floors. The upper rooms have A/Cs and every room has an attached washroom. My Hostel's lifts are poorly maintained but the other Hostel's have great lifts. The Warden is strict and keeps a tab of every students activities.

Seniors are extremely polite and helpful to the Juniors and help us in their free time. Our Alumni organize various seminars and talk sessions from time to time.The campus is known to be very safe with wide interaction between juniors and seniors irrespective of their courses. The seniors actually organize many events and generally the Juniors do all the work with the organizing committee composed mostly of Juniors with seniors occupying only the head positions.

I qualified the entrance exam which was held at various designated venues in multiple cities. After obtaining my results, I went to the counselling session held at a nearby city where I chose my course and University branch. A month later, we flew to the University and after the inauguration ceremony and such, classes began 10 days later.

The faculty is the worst thing in my college. Mosr of the professors have graduated from this University itself but some of the professors are very knowledgeable and provide great help in research sessions.
