Remarks
Overall a pretty decent college to be in, you are provided with great infrastructure and also knowledgeable faculties. There are some great students from India and abroad and if you yearn to gain knowledge this place provides you ample opportunity for that.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum follows AICTE structure and is up there with the best standards existing in the country. There are basically 3 cycle tests also known as internal exams which divide the entire syllabus into 3 parts and the student's knowledge absorption gets tested. There is also a model practical exam for practical preparation. Finally there is the university theory and practical examination at the end of the semester.
Placement Experience
The placement cell of the college works really hard to secure as many companies as they can for the placement of students. This year around 550 companies visited the college for placements. There is a good mix of mass recruiters as well as product based companies. From my knowledge the college does provide internships although I haven't been in one so can't comment further.
College Events
The two major events that are celebrated are AARUUSH AND MILAN. AARUUSH is a national level technology and management fest where a good mix of technical as well as cultural activities take place. Bollywood stars and musical nights are a treat to watch. Great technical workshops conducted by experienced campaigners are really knowledgeable. MILAN is more of a cultural fest and it's more towards the extra curricular activities of students. Again a good mix of tasty food items and rock bands from around the country make it an enticing fest. Apart from these major highlights all other festivals are celebrated not at such great levels but they do.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Expensive. Clearly not a pocket friendly venture and is up there with the top brass of private engineering colleges in India. The fee structure begins at 250000 and goes up to around 4-4,50,000 per annum depending on the courses and the rank category one secures.
Fees and Financial Aid
The top 1000 students of SRMJEEE get full fee waiver. The college also provides multiple scholarships in academics, sports, disabilities and other such brackets. I am under the academic scholarship program and am receiving 30-40k waiver every year on my Fees.
Campus Life
All major sports are entertained at SRMIST be it indoors or outdoors. Cricket, Badminton, Hockey, Football you name it and we have it. The labs are well equipped and always available for students should they want to conduct research.
Hostel Facilities
The facilities are good but expensive. The charges are higher compared to most other colleges in the country. Food may or may not suit some people depending on their taste. Wifi facilities are available and the rooms are fresh and airy.
Alumni/Alumna
Yes the alumni are really helpful. Most of them are settled in great organisations and are always ready to help out the new batches. The seniors always guide the juniors to understand and not make mistakes. There is no ragging and a healthy lifestyle is appreciated.
Admission
I applied for SRMIST entrance exam that is SRMJEEE which is an all India entrance exam for getting admitted to engineering curriculum at SRMIST. It is an online examination conducted at designated examination centres. Post the exam the results are announced and candidates receive their rank list based on which streams can be chosen. The candidates are called to attend the admission counselling process at SRMIST main campus is Kattankulathur, Chennai and they can chose their stream of study accordingly.
Faculty
The faculties are good and knowledgeable. They are always up there to help the students. A bit of language barriers may arrive at times but that does not undermine the quality of teaching they provide.
