Remarks
Mostly, there are no problems about the faculty. As how it goes with every college, there will be a handful of disappointing faculties but they can be ignored. There are a very few faculties who go off limits and set their own rules and be more strict tha
Entrance Preview
To get into College of Engineering, Guindy, I scored 98.75% in the CBSE standard 12 examinations. This is one of the best engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu, and also the OLDEST Engineering College in India.I opted for this college because of the amazing placement record. Tens of core companies visit this college to recruit people, like Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung, etc. Apart from that, it offers a wide variety of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities through various educational clubs and sports.
Course Curriculum Overview
It offers various electives like Advanced Database Technology (for those who want to become data analyst), C# (which is the most important language required by Microsoft freshers), Graph Theory, Cyber Forensics, Cloud Computing (which is today's go-to for all the companies for enhanced work experience)
Internships Opportunities
Yes, our college does provide internship.Usually 4th year students and 3rd year students sit together for the first one or two rounds during the Company visit. While the 4th year students are being assessed for recruitment, the 3rd year students are assessed for internship. 10 to 15 companies visit our college for internship recruitment. Some of them are Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung, Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs. The average stipend is around Rs.30,000 per month. Some companies like Amazon even offers a part of its company shares to the students.
Placement Experience
Placements are one of the main reasons students die to join here. It is one of the biggest assets of our college.Microsoft - 18 Lakhs - 8 students placedCode Nation - 24 Lakhs - 1 student placedPaypal - 20 Lakhs - 5 studentsEndurance - 15 Lakhs - 8 studentsFlipkart - 15 Lakhs - 6 studentsGroupon - 20 Lakhs - 8 studentsInmobi - 11 Lakhs - 5 students CISCO - 14 Lakhs - 10 studentsCaterpillar - 15 Lakhs - 6 10 studentsGoldman Sachs - 16 Lakhs - 2 studentsSamsung - 14 Lakhs - 7 studentsQualcomm - 13 Lakhs - 8 studentsAdobe - 20 Lakhs - 4 studentsCiticorp - 15 Lakhs - 30 studentsAnd other bulk recruitment companies like Infosys, Cognizant, TCS, IBM also visit our college, who recruit around 2500 students combined (in total)And there are a lot more companies offering salary packages from Rs.3 lakhs to Rs. 10 lakhs, apart from the companies mentioned above. A total of a little less than 3000 students were placed in the last year.
College Events
Kurukshetra is our college's technical festival, which happens once in a year during even semester (around January)Students from more than 50 countries participate in Kurukshetra's events and they're entitled to different things.Agni is a cultural festival exclusive to the First year students or Freshers. It is normally conducted by the 3rd years and the 4th years for the Freshers.Techofes is a worldwide well known Cultural Festival conducted in our college which goes on for 4 days. Dance, singing, are a part of it.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure is one of the main areas where our college is known for.For students under the general category, the fee to be paid is around Rs.15,000 per annum. For SS (Self-Supporting) students, the annual fees is around Rs.30,000. For NRIs, the fees per annum is around Rs.4,65,000/-Considering the fees that are being levied on the students in the other colleges, our college's fees are very nominal and feasible. This is possible because the institution is being run by the Government of Tamil Nadu, which offers various subsidies.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees in our college is already very nominal, but on top of that our college provides a lot of scholarship options. It is hard to get scholarship for OC students, but BC students do get quite a lot of scholarships. The eligibility criteria will be given and those who satisfy the criteria, can easily get the scholarships. SC and ST students are the luckiest as they get the most number of scholarships in our college. Myself, as an OC student, find it odd that OC students don't get any scholarship. I feel that scholarships should be based on the student's performance and financial background, rather than the caste.
Campus Life
Campus life is beautiful in our college. The campus is spread over a huge area, of around 150 acres of land. Debates are often conducted in front of the Knowledge Park, which is a part of the college. There is a separate group/club for Robotics, which the students can join and be active in. It is one of the highlights of our college. Gender ratio is approximately 2:3 Male to Female. There is a lot of free space to sit and chat with a group of people. The labs are clean and decent enough to work in. Ragging is one area where our college is very much concerned about. There is an anti-ragging committee which consists of members like the Dean himself, and a lot more. Even the smallest of the ragging crimes are treated with severe punishments and fines. There is no place for ragging in our college. Moreover, an anti-ragging vehicle is always on the rounds, covering even the narrowest streets of the college. Any signs of ragging or misbehavior by the students are treated severely.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facilities are really good for NRIs, who also pay a premium for the facilities. NRIs have to pay around Rs.70,000 per annum for the hostel and students under General category have to pay around Rs.28,000. (for stay in hostel + mess food)In NRI
Alumni/Alumna
Yes. There is a separate building for the alumni in our college. A lot of alumni visit the college frequently and offer speeches and provide motivation to the students. It is really helpful. They also provide information about various internships that are not a part of the institution. They also give us a wider view of the world by engaging us in activities apart from just academics and placement preparation. They give a lot of importance to the concept of Startups, and provide more information on how to start one and all its requirements. One more highlight of our college is the junior-senior interaction. Juniors and Seniors get to know each other through various extra-curricular and co-curricular activities such as through Computer Society of Anna University and other clubs. They offer a lot of help. They even spend a part of their week to teach their juniors about various things, such as placement preparation.
Exam Structure
Three assessments for each subject will be conducted. Depending on who sets the question paper, it will be out of 20,25,30 or 50. The best two scores out of the three assessments will be considered, and their average will be converted to 50, and that will
Faculty
They are all well qualified (almost all of them have a PhD in their respective fields). There's a myth revolving around our college faculties - "CEG Faculties don't teach well, in fact they are not regular to classes at all."Hardly a few faculties are lik
