If you're considering a branch change from Mining Engineering at VNIT, it's a good idea to weigh your options. The curriculum is relevant, and the placement rates are decent for core branches, but if you're not passionate about mining, it might be worth looking into other fields that excite you more. The college itself has a vibrant campus life and good resources, so whatever you choose, make sure it aligns with your interests and career goals.

Honestly, I think joining the Mining Engineering branch at VNIT is a decent choice if you're interested in the field. The curriculum covers relevant topics and includes practical aspects like site visits, which is great for real-world applications. The average placement package for Mining Engineering is around 10 lakhs, which isn't too shabby.

Plus, the college has a good reputation, and the campus life is quite enjoyable with fests like Aarohi and Axis. If you're passionate about mining and ready to engage with the coursework, it could be worth it. But if you have other interests, consider those too.

I've been in the Mining Engineering branch for a while now, and I can say the curriculum is pretty solid for what we need in the industry. The faculty is knowledgeable, and they have a good mix of practical and theoretical classes. The placement percentage is decent, with many students getting placed, so I'd say it's worthwhile if you have an interest in the field. If you're thinking about changing branches after the first year, make sure you explore your options and what other branches have to offer as well.

Here's a general rule: don't choose a college just because you plan to switch branches later. Changing branches is tough at VNIT. Let me tell you about something that happened recently. In the first year, everyone takes the same classes, like Basic Electrical Engineering. This class was really tough, and the professors were pretty strict. As a result, 30 to 40 students in each department ended up with backlogs.

So, the academics can be quite unpredictable here. Plus, if you start in the Mining department, which is pretty relaxed but has fewer opportunities compared to other engineering fields, you might find yourself stuck in a branch you don't like for four years if things don't go as planned. It's worth thinking about carefully.
