How is VNIT Nagpur???

VNIT Nagpur has been a great experience for me as a Civil Engineering student. The curriculum is well-structured and includes practical applications, which I believe is essential for our field. However, the academic pressure can be quite intense, especially with the exams being moderately difficult. The placement opportunities are decent, with many companies like TCS and ITC visiting for internships and jobs. The average package can be around 10-12 LPA, which is encouraging. One downside is that the hostel food quality is average at best, but overall, I feel satisfied with my choice of VNIT.

Hey there, and welcome to the VNIT family! I'm from the ECE department myself, so I can share some insights about the institute. Let's start with the positives about VNIT (we take pride in being an institute of national importance, not just a college).

Great Things:

• The campus is absolutely stunning. I've heard from friends at IITB and other NITs who have praised our campus's natural beauty. It might surprise some, but VNIT is actually a protected bird sanctuary, home to some unique bird species. The campus also boasts a large playground, a big auditorium, two banks, both night and day canteens, a music room, and student activity centers. Plus, there's a MiG on campus, which is pretty unique! We also have a huge library, a computer center, and a health center on site.
• Our alumni network is strong and supportive. VNIT AA, our alumni association, is quite active. For example, the current collector of Nagpur is one of our alumni. They're always ready to lend a helping hand.
• We host a variety of events throughout the year like the Institute Gathering, Departmental Gathering, Axis, Consortium, Aarohi, Freshers, Cultural Nights, QuizFest, Renaissance, and Krikmania. You can find more details about these online.
• Academically, VNIT holds a good reputation. I can't speak for all departments, but Mechanical and Electronics are well-regarded. We're ranked 11th in the nation by the Times Engineering Survey, making us the top NIT in India. Aim to keep your CGPA above 9 to keep doors open for future opportunities.
• Clubs are a big part of life here. Last I checked, there were around 25-30 clubs. Whether you're into tech, dance, or sports, there's something for everyone. Joining at least one club is a great idea. We also have a magazine called INSIGHT, which has been doing great work recently.
• Placements are strong, particularly in ECE and CSE. Many CSE companies also interview ECE students, giving you an edge. Placements have been improving year over year, and this trend looks set to continue.
• Research opportunities are plentiful. The ECE department boasts a Centre of Excellence in Embedded Systems, funded by the central government. We also have a Centre for VLSI and Nanotechnology, with research that's top-notch among NITs and even surpasses some IITs. However, our publication rate could be better.

Areas for Improvement:

• The hostel facilities need a major upgrade. Efficiency is lacking in this area.
• The institute became an NIT only 13 years ago, and unfortunately, some staff and students are just average.
• There’s a need for more student involvement in decision-making. The administration should be more student-friendly.

Advice:
Here's my advice: With 4 lakh ECE students graduating alongside you, find a way to stand out. Follow your passion and seize every opportunity that comes your way. Once an opportunity is missed, it won't come back. Take care!

VNIT Nagpur is an excellent choice for pursuing a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering. The curriculum is designed to provide a solid foundation in engineering principles, but I feel it could be updated to include more modern techniques, especially in labs. The placements are quite good; there’s a high percentage of students getting placed, with the highest package last year being around 64 LPA. The hostel facilities are decent, though the food can be hit or miss. Overall, the college has a good environment and supportive faculty, making it a great place for learning.

As a Chemical Engineering student at VNIT Nagpur, I find the course curriculum relevant and comprehensive, covering vital topics that prepare us for industry challenges. The exams are manageable if you keep up with the studies, though they can be tough at times.

Internship opportunities are decent, with companies like ITC and Reliance providing good experiences, but the placement rate isn’t as high as I’d like, with about 60% of students getting placed. The scholarship options are helpful, especially for students from SC/ST backgrounds, but the hostel food quality leaves something to be desired.

Overall, VNIT offers a solid education with a few areas for improvement.

I study at VNIT Nagpur, so I have seen firsthand some of the not-so-great things happening here.

• The hostel fees are the highest compared to other NITs and IITs. MTech students often struggle to save any money from their stipends. The hostel fees keep going up every year or two without any clear reason.
• When it comes to facilities, the administration doesn't really take responsibility. For example, during a food poisoning incident, they blamed the weather instead of addressing the issue with the mess contractors. Around 150 female students got sick, but the college just called it a mass viral infection.
• Back in 2015, students protested against a fee hike, but no real explanation was offered. Instead, the administration punished the student who led the protest. They don't seem very approachable.
• The student council is chosen by the administration, and they usually just repeat what the administration wants them to say.
• Clubs don't get enough funding to operate properly, and the technical and cultural festivals don't receive any support from the institution.
• MTech placements are really poor because professors don't allow industrial training.
• The Training and Placement Head charged extra fees beyond what's listed in the academic fees, promising interviews and group discussions that never happened.
• Professors are often assigned subjects they aren't very knowledgeable about.
• Students can't even get 1-2 months off for internships at top universities like CMU, MIT, or Stanford.
• Even the caution money and refundable charges aren't returned to students.
