I graduated from IMI, New Delhi in 2018. Before joining, I had offers from IMT, TAPMI, and FORE, and I was torn between IMI and IMT. Here are some things to think about if you're deciding between these schools: First, do you have a better option than these two? Second, remember that many business schools report inflated salary packages, so you might want to adjust the figure down by about 1.5-2 lakhs for a more realistic view. Third, if your percentile isn't high enough for the top IIMs, ISB, or XLRI, it's unlikely you'll get equivalent salary offers. Fourth, if you choose to pursue an MBA at either IMI or IMT, be ready to work hard and stay focused.
When I chose IMI, I committed to working hard to reach the level of peers from IIM A, B, or C. The campus isn't huge, and first-year students live off-campus, while second-year students stay in campus hostels. The faculty includes both outstanding and average professors, but you'll learn what you need to succeed in business. For placements, focus on building a well-rounded profile with a good CGPA, take up roles in student bodies like committees and clubs, and participate in events like TEDx and competitions. This preparation will help you become a strong candidate for top companies. When considering placements, prioritize the job profile, company, and then salary. Many people do it the other way around, but they might not be well-informed.
I followed this path and achieved a strong profile, landed a good company, and got a decent salary. Infrastructure, placements, and faculty matter, but your hard work is what truly counts. Your MBA will enhance your personality and open doors.
Just to add, I'm working in an investment banking role at one of India's oldest and leading investment banks. My profile includes a CGPA close to six and an engineering background with 32 months of experience in the automobile industry.
I recently finished my studies at IMI New Delhi, so I can share some thoughts on what it's like there. Trust me, this is straight from the heart.
Infrastructure: The facilities are just okay, not the top-notch kind. But since the college is in a central spot, lots of sports complexes are within a 2km range. Basic stuff like basketball and volleyball courts are in place.
Faculty: I'm really proud of the professors, or as we like to call them, the 'Intellectual Capital' at IMI. We've had the chance to learn from industry experts and professors with tons of research experience.
Talent Pool: Some of my classmates scored 99 percentile on their CAT exams. For our year, the cutoff was 90 percentile. But honestly, using only CAT scores to judge a B-school student isn't fair. Things like overall profile and work experience should also count, and in that regard, we're pretty solid. You can look at the placement reports for more on that.
Placements: This is the big one everyone asks about. They're pretty good. Big companies come, and the roles vary from great to average. The placement report has all the details. The process is open to everyone; you just express interest and go for it if you like. The college's long history attracts many well-known brands. But remember, if you're expecting the school to hand you a job without putting in your own effort, maybe management education isn't for you. Also, the idea that being in Placecomm guarantees a great job isn't true. I've seen it myself. If someone from Placecomm gets a good offer, it’s probably because of their skills, not just their role.
Just to add, I'm not in Placecomm, but I'm happy with the offer I got through the college, and I know many others are too.
Most of the other details have been covered in other responses. I'll jump straight to the main concern: placements. Each year, almost all students at the college find jobs, but the salary numbers they claim are misleading, especially for the 2019-2021 batch.
This year, most students received offers between 7-9 LPA, yet they report an average salary of 12.71 LPA, which is not true. I would challenge the college to reveal the names and roll numbers of students who received more than 12.59 LPA because their reported median salary is 12.15 LPA. The placement report seems to be filled with made-up numbers, not reflecting the actual situation.
