I am a student at VIT and have friends at Manipal Institute of Technology. Here are some facts about both-

• Placements - Both have good placements in CS. Just like other engineering colleges, most other branches aren’t usually offered high packages. Both the colleges are visited by similar companies. An IT job is assured even if you fail to land a core job.

• Examination- VIT has easy examination questions. However, getting a grade 9 requires dedicated efforts.

• Academic flexibility- At VIT, you can choose your own subjects, teachers and timings. Given that you satisfy the basic requirements for a degree, you can choose to study any subjects. This means you’ll get to see new faces during each class. It’s a great opportunity for building your network.

• Cost- The fees at Manipal are much higher than VIT.

• College Life- Manipal offers a much better college life. It has fewer restrictions and better eateries. Its campus is more picturesque as well. If you like to travel, Ooty, Pondicherry, Kodaikanal and Tirupati are situated near Vellore.Manipal on the other hand, has Goa, Gokarna and the Agumbe rainforest near it.
• Language-barrier- Outside the VIT campus in Vellore, you’ll feel difficulty due to language barrier. This problem is faced less in Manipal.
• Faculty- Almost every branch at VIT has some very qualified teachers. However, it's not necessary that they teach well. If you wish to pursue higher studies, take initiative and approach your teachers, they will assist and support you. 

The faculty at Manipal isn’t great. 

Both the colleges have enormous student populations, and are great for building networks. You can choose either of them as both are at par with each other.

Thapar University is better. It offers better facilities. Thapar alumni network is spread all across the world. The networking opportunities are ample. More recruiting companies visit Thapar University placements. A total of 361 took part in the 2022 placement. The average CTC offered during this year's placement drive was INR 10.97 LPA. 

Surely IIM Calcutta is the oldest and yet stands out the most from other IIMs. But trust me it has nothing to do with its campus, alumni, education, placement, extracurriculars or any other features. All the IIMs are equally good in all these aspects.

What makes IIM Calcutta different from them?

In reality, IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore welcome students only who have been toppers throughout their life. Their academic reports are flawless. Be it their 10th or 12th or Undergraduate. They have never seen failure in their lives. 

But in the case of IIM Calcutta, it has both genius students with flawless reports and people who have great CAT scores but below average undergrad or 10th and 12th scores. IIM Calcutta welcomes a mixed crowd and this is what sets it apart from other IIMs.

At IIM Calcutta, you will find peers who have failed or been to the lowest level once. But they have climbed the ladder of success with determination. Studying alongside people with such qualities makes education much more than just learning your subjects. You grow as a person. You don’t find people here, you find profiles. A manager needs to have these qualities in order to excel.

All the IIMs are great but it’s only IIM Calcutta that welcomes a mixed crowd.

Here are a few parameters on which one can compare the two colleges-

• Academics- UCMS has a more rigorous testing schedule, which is why its academics is considered better. On the other hand, VMMC provides you with more freedom to study the topics of your choice. For example, if you wish to apply for USMLE, you will have ample time for standard books, and extracurriculars to boost your CV. 

• Campus- The campus of UCMS is double in size. But VMMC has a safer campus where you can roam 24*7 without safety concerns. This is because of a good number of security guards dispatched throughout the college and hospital.

• Location- Unlike UCMS, VMMC is surrounded by multiple hangout places. You can visit Hauz Khas, South Ex, Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Green Park, and Saket from VMMC. CP is just 30 minutes away, even by metro. 

• Hostels- UCMS offers single seater hostel rooms for all, and the rooms are more spacious as well. At VMMC, you can customize your room according to your will. I don’t know about UCMS, but VMMC hostels have no curfew timings. NBH (New Boys’ Hostel) has good rooms, surrounded by greenery.

• Hospital- Safdarjung Hospital is better than GTB. It has the largest OPD in Asia, so you’ll have ample cases to learn. There’s a large number of PG seats at Safdarjung.

• Societies- VMMC has a dance society (Neocracy), a music society (Kehrawa), a fashion society, a sports society and a dramatic society (Kaivalya). I am not aware of the societies at UCMS. 

Based on these parameters, I would recommend you join VMMC for your MBBS. But even UCMS is a good college. 

 IIEST Shibpur CSE department is one of the oldest and most established departments in the country. 

• Placement: CSE department at IIEST Shibpur has a good placement record, with many top companies visiting the campus every year. In 2021, the average salary package for CSE students was around INR 10 LPA, with the highest package going up to INR 35 LPA.

• Faculty: IIEST Shibpur has highly qualified and experienced faculty in the CSE department, many of whom have earned doctoral degrees from top universities in India and abroad. They are involved in cutting-edge research and often collaborate with industry and other academic institutions.

• Infrastructure: IIEST Shibpur has a state-of-the-art infrastructure with modern classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, and a well-stocked library. It also has several research centers and labs for students and faculty to engage in cutting-edge research.

IIEST Shibpur is one of the top engineering institutes in West Bengal, along with IIT Kharagpur, NIT Durgapur, and Jadavpur University. Its placement record is on par with the top NITs, making it a popular choice among engineering students.

BITS Hyderabad is definitely better than VIT Vellore for CS. Here are some reasons for the same-

• Coding Culture- Even VIT Vellore has a decent coding culture. But when it comes to any of the BITS campuses, the coding culture over there is far more superior. The environment at BITS is such that one feels extremely motivated to learn and build new stuff. The BITS faculties are highly qualified and supportive.

• Crowd- Getting into BITS is difficult, and there are no NRI or Management quota seats. Each one of the students gets in through pure merit. Because of these reasons the BITS Hyderabad crowd is overall better than the VIT Vellore crowd.

• Placements- The Computer Science department of BITS Hyderabad witnesses better placements than VIT Vellore. But even VIT Vellore is good for CS placements.

• Course Intake- VIT Vellore intakes a lot more students on a yearly basis. Though the competition is much higher at BITS Hyderabad, the end results are more fulfilling for each one of its students. 

Thus, I would recommend you choose BITS Hyderabad for your B.E. in CS. 

MNNIT Allahabad will be a better option as it bears you a tag and reputation that will last with you for a lifetime. Rather than that there are various reasons to choose MNNIT Allahabad over NIT Calicut -

• Courses offered: Degrees are offered at MNNIT Allahabad in several academic fields, including engineering, business, humanities, and social science. Doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate degrees are available at MNNIT Allahabad.
• Academic Reputation: MNNIT Allahabad is a well-established and renowned institution in India, known for its academic excellence and rigorous engineering programs. According to NIRF report 2023, it has ranked 49 among all the top engineering colleges in India.
• Faculty Expertise: MNNIT Allahabad has highly qualified faculty members with extensive experience in their respective fields.
• Infrastructure and Facilities: NITs generally have well-equipped laboratories, libraries, and research facilities.
