What is the difficulty level of GATE papers when set by IISc Bangalore?
No single institution sets the GATE papers. A group of professors from different IITs, NITs, and IISc Bangalore set the paper. Each year an institution gets the responsibility of selecting the professors for question paper setting. This institution also looks after other administration-related work.
I would suggest you practice the previous 10-20 years’ question papers. Also, do not try to assess the difficulty level of the upcoming GATE exam by looking at the previous years’ trends, as it will not help.
Practice well for your GATE exam and make a note that GATE papers will not be set solely by IISc Bangalore or any one institution.
Have I done a mistake in choosing IIT Delhi mechanical over DTU CS? I preferred to do CS, but due to ego, I chose IIT Delhi.
I don’t think anyone choosing IIT Delhi over any other engineering college has made a wrong decision given the opportunities and life experiences that come with it. While both are crucial, your choice of Institute is more important than your branch.
Here is a friend's journey for your reference l was a BTech student (Civil) at IIT BHU with a rank of 3600.
- First, he completed a Nanodegree program from Udacity in Self Driving Cars and Machine learning
- Next, he worked as a Derivative Trader in Future First where he performed Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms.
- After gaining great experience and exposure he joined Quantela Inc for 2 Years where he worked as a Data Scientist.
- Today, after a lot of job switches and immense experience he is working at Derq in Dubai as a Machine Learning Scientist and doing Online MS from Georgia Tech University in Computer Science.
This journey of a 7-pointer Civil Branch student to a high-tech CS company proves that branch does not matter in the end. He made the most of his campus life and kept struggling to switch his branch and eventually succeeded. That being said, you have made the right decision as only IIT Delhi can give you the right set of opportunities and exposure and not DTU.
Is XIMB HRM worth the 17 lakh fee? Will the XUB thing have any impact?
There is no such course as XIMB HRM. The HR School of XUB, XAHR, offers the HRM course. Pursuing this degree is certainly worth the money invested. Xavier School of Human Resource Management placements has an average CTC of INR 12.9 LPA. While the highest CTC goes up to INR 22.5 LPA. Many students get salary packages in INR 20 LPA slab.
The XUB thing hasn’t made any major impacts. The faculty is same, the selection criteria are same, and so is the list of recruiting companies.

Last year’s B.Tech placement figures of VNIT weren't very promising. A lot more is expected from this college, especially because of its high admission cutoffs.
What are the future prospects of doing a BTech in marine engineering from Indian Maritime University?
Indian Maritime University offers fewer placement opportunities compared to private universities. It’s because Govt. colleges don’t pay placement fees to companies to hire students. However, If you want to join Govt. Sector, an IMU degree can help. Also, the Govt. has taken shipping as a challenge to boost our economy, so you can expect to get new job opportunities in the field.
Career change options are limited for Marine Engineers. As a Marine Engineer, you can’t fit into other professions and the opposite is also true. You need to be a 2nd engineer or a Chief to stop going to sea and start a career on shore. You can get some career options by doing an MBA. Various universities offer PG Diploma in Marine Engineering. Marine Engineering students can appear in GATE as well, but the questions asked in the examination are from Mechanical Engineering.
What is the placement scenario at NIT Delhi?
My friend is currently a student at NIT Delhi and as per her, NIT Delhi has an outstanding placement scenario. The highest package recorded for the year 2022 was INR 82.63 lacs which is the highest among other NITs. Surprisingly enough, this package was bagged by a student of EEE department and not the CSE department. Although, the institute did not release official placement statistics, the branch-wise average packages are
- CSE: INR 18–20 lacs
- ECE: INR 15–18 lacs
- EEE: INR 15–18 lacs
Based on the NIT Delhi NIRF report 2023, the median package offered during NIT Delhi BTech and MTech placements 2022 stood at INR 14.75 LPA and INR 15 LPA, respectively. Out of 163 students, a total of 142 students were placed in the Btech batch whereas 33 out of 56 students were placed in the MTech batch.

How was your interview at IIM IPM Rohtak?
My friend had an interview at IIM Rohtak. She was a commerce student with 95% in Class 10th and 93.8% in Class 12. It was an online interview conducted by two male panelists.
The interview started with her speaking about herself, her background, school achievements, extracurriculars, and hobbies. She told them her hobby was reading and they asked her about her recent reads. They asked her the following questions
- What is more important to you: Money or Happiness?
- As a student of economics, consider a situation where all the countries have the same currency. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of the situation?
- What if there is a different currency in every state of India. Explain the consequences.
- Name any two women entrepreneurs?
- Who is the governor of MP?
- Who is the Chief Justice of India?
Apart from the last question she was able to answer all and thankfully was able to convert the call.
The truth is IPM interviews are of Class 12 pass outs so are just limited to their knowledge. They mainly test your academic questions and basic knowledge of current issues. All you need to do is be confident and succeed!

Is PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh good?
After IITs, PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh is the best option in North-India. The university has a decent faculty base. You can get their help regarding any problem related to academics. PEC offers good facilities and resources. The campus is equipped with high-speed internet.
It has a good placement record. PEC Chandigarh placements 2021 ended with an average CTC of INR 10.83 LPA. Some of the major recruiters that took part in the placements were Airtel, Microsoft, Google, American Express, etc.
PEC has a pretty active club culture. Other than technical clubs, there are clubs for music, debate, music, dance, art, photography, etc.
