What are some pros and cons of NIT Calicut that one should know before joining (ECE)??

SK
Shailja Khandelwa Posted On : August 21st, 2023
B.Tech. from National Institute of Technology, Calicut (2019)

Every coin has two sides and likewise, every college you join will have its unique strengths and weaknesses. Knowing these beforehand helps you manage things and prepares you better. So here are a few pros and cons one must be aware of before joining ECE at NIT Calicut

Pros

  1. The ECE department of NIT Calicut is one of the oldest and most well-established departments of the institute and is also accredited by NBA. It's second only to the CSE department and the competition here is intense.
  2. The standards of examination papers setting and vivas conducted are excellent and evaluate the students' performances pretty well.
  3. The department is well-known for its high-tech embedded systems lab. The lab mechanic as well as the facilities offered help the students conduct cutting-edge research under the guidance of the lab assistants and mechanics.
  4. The faculty of the department is highly experienced and learned with thorough knowledge of their respective fields. They have a knack for delivering concepts in a well-organized manner.

Cons

  1. Being one of the oldest departments, its buildings and overall infrastructure is deteriorating. The entire department is spread across various buildings and it takes time to visit faculties.
  2. The academic level of this branch is high so you cannot survive solely by mugging up the concepts. You need to have in-depth knowledge of the concepts. You might find some courses to be extraordinarily challenging so be prepared for the workload.
  3. A few Ad-hoc faculties destroy the momentum of the course through their poor pedagogy.
  4. The lab sessions are again very challenging and getting the right results may be more challenging than expected.

Overall, the NIT Calicut ECE department will bring in a number of challenges but if you are interested in the branch you will get to experience an unmatched learning environment and opportunities.

The ECE branches of all the three NITs you mentioned namely NIT Kurukshetra, NIT Hamirpur, and NIT Durgapur in terms of campus life, job opportunities, and curriculum. However, it's very important to make the most out of the branch you are opting for irrespective of the institute you choose.

Follow the tips below to ensure you avail maximum opportunities as an ECE student

  • Start focusing on programming if you want CSE in the first place because you will be appearing for IT companies. They will evaluate you on the basis of your skills so start working on them.
  • If you are particularly interested in ECE, then joining any of these NITs will offer similar opportunities. Core jobs are usually less so you will have to study core subjects diligently and try to develop strong concepts. Work on projects and add value to your resume so that you can go for off-campus placements too.

Here is a brief companion of the placement statistics of the 3 branches

NIT Patna ECE placements are great and the packages offered are high. Moreover, the institute is located in the center of the city so you have access to all kinds of coaching institutes for preparation of competitive exams like GATE and IES. The reason I won’t suggest you go for Production Engineering is ve age of its limited scope in the country.

Ultimately the choice depends on your inclinations.

What is your review about NIT trichy electronics and communication branch?

VS
Vaani Singh Posted On : July 26th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India

I am currently studying ECE at NIT Trichy. So far, I’ve had an amazing experience. During the first two years, you will deal with Core Electronics. In the first year, every branch studies the same subjects to brush up on concepts learned in senior classes at school. The next two years deal with the Communication part. You will get to choose electives from various options like image processing, etc.

All the branches are equally good and each offers ample opportunities in terms of scholarships. The ECE branch has a very good reputation and the faculty is quite good. Some teachers can even teach more than two subjects with subjects ranging from Digital Electronics to Signal Processing and Data Structures (elective). NIT Trichy follows a Relative Grading System (RG).

Thus, the NIT Trichy ECE branch is a great choice.

I am a 1st year student of ECE in NIT Jamshedpur. Apart from maintaining good grades what can I do to ensure me a job with salary of 10-14 lakhs p.a?

SS
Saurabh Seth Posted On : September 4th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (2020)

If you are looking for a high-paying package around 10-14 LPA, you need to consider your future perspectives first. As an ECE student here are some career options you can opt for

One should look for a balance between salary and work culture. I will suggest you prepare for the MNC industries of Silicon Valley (Private Core Sector), i.e. Qualcomm, Intel, etc. This is the best choice for an ECE student where you will learn and work with great minds. They offer lucrative packages too. Here is how you can prepare for such companies

To prepare for your interviews, one needs to have deep knowledge of whatever you study for your end-semester examinations.

  • Private Core Sector: This is the most challenging option and the salary package varies from company to company. You will have to work extra hard to excel here.
  • IT sector:  India is one of the biggest hubs of IT industries in the world, and you have immense opportunities in this sector. The salary packages offered by IT companies are also quite good.
  • PSUs:  First you will have to prepare for GATE. The government sector offers excellent packages with many additional benefits but your development rate here is nill. If money is your only concern then this one is for you.
  • Finance/Stock/Management: Go for these options if you have an interest in these fields.
  • Inculcate excellent Programming skills not for just coding jobs but also for learning machine language and the concepts of the origin of coding
  • Master the designing of Analog and Digital circuits
  • Learn the Architecture of Computer, Microprocessors, and Microcontrollers.
  • Understand VLSI thoroughly as it is the most important thing to design electronics circuits and is mostly asked in interviews
  • Attend the Robotics workshop and competitions, it will enhance your practical knowledge.
  • Try to get internships/projects related to such fields. You can always check and drop mail into the career section of the company’s website.
  • Maintain good grades because that is how companies shortlist you.

To prepare for your interviews, one needs to have deep knowledge of whatever you study for your end-semester examinations.

B.E(CSE) Computer Science & Peace, Bannari Amman Institute of Technology (2020)

Shri Krishna College of Technology (SKCT ) is affiliated to Anna University and is approved by AICTE, the institute has also received an “A” grade from NAAC and the same goes for Bannari Institute of Technology (BIT). The colleges offer Bachelor of Engineering in ECE.

Rankings-

SKCT- SKCT has been ranked 151 out of 200 colleges in India by NIRF 2020 rankings.

BIT- NIRF has ranked BIT in the 151-200 band by NIRF. It is also ranked in the 46th position among the top 165 private engineering colleges by India Today.

Admission-

SKCT- The eligibility criteria for SKCT are 10+2 with 50% and students are selected for admission via TNEA Counselling. SKCT cut off is usually around 6916-9105 ranks.

BIT- BIT has a minimum requirement of 10+2 and no particular marks requirement, unlike SKCT. Eligible students need to appear for TNEA counseling to get admission. BIT’s usual cut-off is 3254-9784.

Course Fees-

  • SKCT- It charges INR 50,000 for first-year tuition fees and the total course fee is INR 2 LPA.

  • BIT-The first-year tuition fee for BIT is INR 60,000 and the total course fee is approximately INR 2.4 LPA

Placements-

SKCT- SKCT has a placement record of 87.9% for students placed in core companies. Top recruiting companies from the core-sector are Soliton, Accenture. TCS, Virtusa, Amazon, Zohi, Infosys, etc. The lowest salary package offered at SKCT is 3.5 LPA and the highest goes up to 28 LPA. ECE at SKCT has an 81.8% placements record.

BIT- BIT has an almost 85% placement record. Top recruiters which visit the campus include Infosys, TCS Ninja. In 2019 the lowest salary package was 2.5 LPA while the highest was 25 LPA.

Between the two colleges, SKCT can be a better choice for ECE as the course fees are also less than BIT while the placement record is higher.

Which branch should I take in NIT Silchar mechanical or ECE?

MR
Moitrayi Roy Posted On : August 25th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Silchar

In my opinion, you alone can decide the best branch for yourself and others can only guide you. If you are evaluating and comparing branches based on placements, then trust me it won’t help in the long run. Unless you are genuinely interested in the branch, you won’t be able to pursue a career in it for a long time.

Mechanical

  • If you are inclined towards stuff like automobiles, heavy machinery, or design, or want to work in a good PSU then choose Mechanical.
  • One needs to be aware of the fact that this branch is completely core-based so you will be studying only core concepts for 4 years.
  • The placements of core mechanical are quite better than ECE.
  • Students of the Mechanical branch can go for Mechanical-related jobs only and most software companies won't allow Mechanical students to sit for their placements.
  • Mechanical has more PSU placements but Mechanical has much higher and tougher competition compared to ECE.

ECE

  • If you are interested in small electronic devices, Arduino, IoT, Integrated circuits and diodes, fabrications, and chip design, or want to pursue a career in coding and programming then you should go for ECE.
  • This branch is a mix of core ECE and software/IT, i.e. ECE's major role will be played by software only during placements.
  • ECE core can be helpful if you want to pursue higher education.

So, make sure you go for the branch that intrigues you and not the one that offers better placements.

How is NIT kurukshetra for Electrical Engineering?

SR
Sumit Roy Posted On : September 2nd, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra

The Department of Electrical Engineering at NIT Kurukshetra is considered quite decent because of the numerous opportunities it offers

  • The EE department of NIT Kurukshetra has some of the best faculty members like Mr. Yash Pal who teaches Electrical Machines and Mr. Nakka who teaches Power Electronics.
  • The Department of EE has amazing infrastructure and its labs are equipped with all modern instruments. In fact, NIT Jalandhar visits the campus every year because they don’t have labs like the electric drives lab, etc.
  • The EE course is much similar to EEE thereby offering a wider range of opportunities
  • Students in the 7th semester have to choose 1 departmental elective out of Power Systems, Information and Control, and Computer Applications. So you can study a subject of your choice in case you fail to upgrade your branch.
  • PSUs have started recruiting directly from colleges apart from GATE so chances of getting decently placed have increased.

Here is the placement statistics for the UG course offered by the EE department

Eligible Students

Ultimately everyone gets placed irrespective of the packages they receive. This year the highest package was offered to a student of this branch. So it’s definitely worth going for.
