How is NIT Jamshedpur?
I am an alumnus of NIT Jamshedpur. Based on my experiences, here are a few pros and cons of joining this institution-
NIT Jamshedpur has a very good environment. Its faculty, curriculum and placements are good as well. Tata steel and Tata Cummins are located near the college campus. This enhances training and industrial exposure opportunities for the students. The college hostels are newly built, and filled with good facilities.
However, the infrastructure and campus maintenance need to improve. Also, workshops aren’t regularly conducted for some of the branches.
Overall, NIT Jamshedpur is a good college, and you can definitely consider it for your engineering studies.
How is Manipal University?
Manipal University is a Deemed to be University established in the year 1953. Manipal has been accredited with A++ Grade by NAAC and AIRIIA. As per the World University Rankings 2024, Manipal Academy of Higher Education ranked in the band 601 – 800. Additionally, MAHE has been listed in the top rankings by ranking organizations Education World, Outlook, and The Week. Some valuable insights on Manipal University are given below:
- Manipal has campuses in India and abroad that provide more than 300 programs in more than 30 streams at UG, PG & Doctoral levels. The university offers online courses.
- Manipal Admission is done based on MET (Manipal Entrance Test). The application fee for MET 2024 is INR 1400. MET 2024 Exam (Phase 1) is scheduled for April 16, 2024 - April 17, 2024.
- Manipal University collaborates with 250 universities worldwide, including Trinity College Dublin, Boston University, and the University of Birmingham.
- At Manipal, Asia’s largest anatomy museum and life sciences library exist.

Should I join IIM Calcutta or IIM Kozhikode? I am an average student who somehow managed to do well in the CAT and convert both of these but want a fair shot at being in the better half of the batch
Both IIM Calcutta and IIM Kozhikode are top-notch management institutes in India. The majority of people claim that IIMC is better than IIMK just because it has a strong alumni connection and extremely experienced faculty.
But don’t make your decision solely based on this. Keep your aim in mind before deciding.

What are some cons of AIIMS Rishikesh as I have heard only positive reviews?
AIIMS Rishikesh is one of the renowned medical institutions located in Uttarakhand. Although, the facilities and faculty at AIIMS Rishikesh are excellent. It may have some cons as well.
Lack of Nightlife: Rishikesh is a small city in the northern state of Uttarakhand in India and is not a metropolitan city. The city is the yoga capital of India and the city sleeps early. Students might not have happening nightlife at AIIMS Rishikesh.
Exam Pattern: AlIMS Rishikesh is one of the institutions to follow a 100% MCQ exam pattern. Although, the exam pattern seems easy and aids students in preparing for their entrance exam. Students might not get a chance how to articulate answers, and presentations and structure the answers as they do in traditional exams. This might be disadvantageous for students wanting to pursue research in their higher education. With Practice and Consistency, students can overcome any difficulties.
The potential cons of AIIMS Rishikesh are based on individual preferences and choices. It is always better to know the pros and cons before choosing any institution. It is advised for students to consider their preferences before making any decision.
Why is CSE at NSIT considered better than CSE at DTU?
There are many reasons why some students prefer CSE at NSIT to CSE at DTU. I have listed some strong reasons below:
- NSIT has a smaller batch size which in turn means the level of competition faced by the students is comparatively low. You can get good job profiles way more easily than at an institute with a higher intake like DTU.
- NSIT awards you a degree from DU, one of the most globally recognized and reputed universities. This helps you pursue higher studies in foreign countries easily.
- Quite a few NSIT students are able to secure high packages in top companies like Facebook while DTU because of its large batch size has only a few that get 1 cr+ packages.
- One of the major reasons why someone would prefer NSIT over DTU is that it’s quite difficult to get a hostel in DTU especially if you are a resident of Delhi.
If you consider these reasons valid, go for NSIT instead of DTU.
What should I choose between IIT-Kanpur CSE and IIT Madras CSE?
The best way is to break down various components and analyze each parameter individually.
Placements
- IIT Madras's average package in 2023 stood at INR 24.4 LPA while IIT Kanpur CSE highest package stood at 1.02 CPA.
Ranking
- IIT Kanpur was ranked 264th by the QS World University Rankings 2023 and #4 by NIRF for the year 2023 in the Engineering category whereas IIT Madras is ranked #1 by NIRF.
Campus
- IIT Madras has a 630 acres campus with many sports facilities like a gym, badminton courts, a swimming pool, and a cricket ground to name a few. The labs, library, and overall infrastructure are top-notch.
- IIT Kanpur is one of the biggest IIT campuses spread across 1000 acres. It has a dynamic campus life with many fests and activities. The library is huge and there is a club for everything.
Overall, IIT Madras seems to be in a better position than IIT Kanpur although both are excellent institutes of technical education.
How are placements in mechanical engineering at BITS Pilani?
BITS Pilani recently concluded its placement drive for this year and the average package stood at INR 30.37 LPA whereas the highest package stood at INR 60.75 LPA.
The Institute does not release branch-wise packages and thus I consulted a friend who was a part of the BITS Pilani placement drive 2021. As per the information obtained from her, around 80% of the students of the mechanical branch got placed. The average salary package offered was 13 LPA and the highest salary package offered was 40 LPA by Daikin for the mechanical course. Decent roles were offered to students of this branch.

Is there a management quota for Amrita University?

How are the hostel rooms in IIT Delhi?
IIT Delhi has a total of 18 hostels for men, and 2 hostels for women. Each hostel is equipped with basic amenities such as a common room, a reading room, and mess hall. The hostels also have 24-hour security and medical facilities. Additionally, the hostels have a common room, an indoor games room, and a gym.
The buildings are old given the time they were built, yet the facilities are decent. First-year students are allotted triple occupancy rooms while some are allotted double. This depends on the hostel you are assigned as each hostel has different maps and infrastructure. A typical room in an IIT Delhi has:
- 3 beds occupied by many
- Three tables, mostly used for keeping bottles and random stuff
- Three chairs, hardly used for sitting but keeping additional stuff
- 2 almirahs with four slots each.
- 3 wooden showcases for keeping books and stuff like toothbrushes , toothpaste, comb, empty perfume sprays,earphones etc.
- 2 LAN ports for 3 people with additional Wi-Fi facilities.
- Electronic appliances include 2 fans, 2 tube lights, and 4 electricity boards.
All these basic amenities make students stay comfortable. After all, hostel life is all about making memories and new friends.
