What is the CGPA conversion formula for BIT Mesra Ranchi?
The CGPA conversion at BIT Mesra is as usual as it is calculated by some simple arithmetic calculations. At the time of Convocation:
- If you have a CGPA of 7.0 and above - You will be awarded 1st class with Distinction.
- If you have a CGPA of 6.0 and above - You will be awarded 1st class without Distinction.
- If you have a CGPA of 5.0 and above - You will be awarded, 2nd class.

To convert your CGPA into a percentage just multiply your CGPA by 10. For example, 8.34 then in % it will be 8.34*10=83.4
Every subject has a certain credit allotted to it. Subjective exams usually have more credits than practical papers and viva voice.

Which engineering college is better KJ Somaiya or VESIT?
While both colleges are reputed, you should compare a few parameters before making a choice. Here are some of them to help you decide.
Teaching:
Every college has good and bad faculties.
- From what I heard through my friends at VESIT, there are few faculties that struggle with simple math problems. While some faculties from KJS struggle with simple circuits despite being electronics teachers.
- I also know about faculties at VESIT, who are actively engaged in research projects that are respected nationally. The same goes for KJS.
Don’t expect world-class teaching from either of these colleges. You will also need to figure out a lot of things on your own. You will also be able to figure out a lot of the study material by yourself. It will be better if you find someone, preferably a faculty to clear your doubts.
Management: (Winning Institution - VESIT)
- As far as management is concerned, KJS recently attained autonomy so things might be a little disorganized there. At KJS you might expect odd exam schedules and late exam starts.
- VESIT does not have better management but is definitely a little more organized.
Campus Life:
- VESIT does not have a very big campus. Moreover, a number of technical and non-technical events go on at VESIT, but it is not comparable with KJS.
- In terms of crowd, KJS has a relatively chill vibe as compared to people from VESIT. But, clubs are much better at VESIT, e.g. CSI and IEEE. However, KJS also has a number of open events that you can participate in as well.

KJS offers Mechanical Engineering, which VESIT does not. So, if you want to pursue Mechanical, KJS is a clear choice. The environment at VESIT is more suitable for technical things as compared to KJS. So, choose the institute based on what you expect out of your degree.
Why are the students of IIIT Allahabad so desperate to draw students to their institute?
Something you need to understand is that it is no one who is desperate to grab in students. The reputation of IIIT Allahabad in India is of one fine institute that holds national importance of its own. Apart from that, it has managed to establish itself as a brand on its own since its existence. The only issue is how underrated it lies amongst the people in India.
If you check out any other social media platform, you would realise that students who come from IIIT Allahabad provide feedback and present authentic facts everywhere. But there exists a certain mass that claim false facts by taking credit for achievements received by other campuses. These people carry such misconceptions that they believe that an INI set up MHRD- which has managed to establish itself almost 10 years back is nothing in front of a college under a PPP model.
While coming across anyone rating your college better than IIIT Allahabad, you should have an open mind for criticism.
So, what makes IIIT Allahabad a great college -
- In ACM ICPC World Finals 2016, would not have been ranked as the first institute.
- According to Sphere Online Judge would not have been ranked number 1 in the world.
- Not have been ranked Numero Uno by HackerEarth.
- Topcoder would not have ranked it number 27.
- Would not have granted the best example of the finest coder in India- Harsha Suryanarayana.
- Would not have sent teams to the ACM ICPS world finale- not once, but several times!
- Would not have secured a place for India at Opera Software as Opera Campus Crew Coordinator.
There are newspaper rankings on IIIT Allahabad too that you can go through, but I'm essentially not someone who buys that as most of the time, these high rankings on newspapers are paid advertisements.
Last, but not least, no doubt that IIIT Allahabad is one of the finest institutes, but there is still much to work on. Also, keep this in mind - no one forces students in institutes and is desperate for that.
What are the reasons that IIIT-Hyderabad ECE is not as good as its CSE?
The question is highly illogical as no branches are comparable, rather it’s a matter of preferences. You can say that placements of CSE are better than ECE but to say that to the entire branch would be making a false claim.
In any engineering institute you will find the average packages of the CSE branch higher than other branches but does this mean the other branches are not as good? The answer is no. The placements are directly affected by the demand in industry and it has nothing to do with the credibility of the branch. If you are genuinely interested in ECE, then CSE won’t be a good choice for you irrespective of how lucrative the package you are offered. So it’s a subjective matter.
People tend to adopt the sheep mentality and flock to CSE just because everyone is doing so and fail to analyze their own passions and interests. The increasing size of packages and international offers has resulted in a preconceived notion that CSE is better. In reality, both ECE and CSE branches are equally good with equally good opportunities, faculties, and education.
So it’s advisable to make the decision without any preconceived notions.
How is NIT Trichy for education and a fun life?
My sister is a second-year student at NIT Trichy and she already has many memorable experiences and is leading a fun-filled life.
- The crowd here is no joke as mostly the students are ex-IIT aspirants who couldn’t make it to the top IITs and chose the top NIT instead.
- The competition here is intense and a big driving factor in motivating you to study hard.
- The institute has many places to explore in and around the campus.
- The campus is huge and has state-of-the-art facilities.
- The majority of professors are excellent in their respective fields and quite approachable.
- The institute gives equal importance to research and the labs are well-equipped with instruments that help in qualitative research.
- A number of student-run clubs and committees help you focus on your extracurricular passions.
- The institute organizes yearly fetes, symposiums, cultural seminars, sports fests, and inter-department fests to ensure a vibrant campus life.
- The hostel facilities are decent but the food may not be of your rates. However, there are a large number of eateries serving food at subsidized rates.
Overall, NIT Trichy is a great institute both in terms of education as well as the quality of campus life it offers. The only drawback is its remote location and the extremely hot climate.
Which is a better choice, NIT Trichy, BITS Pilani, or IIIT Hyderabad?
Comparing colleges can be done based on several factors. To many a few
- Branch: The choice of the branch is a major factor that influences your decision. Those interested in the IT sector should go for IIIT Hyderabad and for those who have no specific inclinations or are interested in non-IT branches, BITS Pilani is the right option for them.
- Nature of degree: If you are looking for an institute to get a Bachelor's degree, then BITS Pilani Is great but for a Master, IIIT Hyderabad will serve you better. This is because IIIT is more research-oriented, which is very beneficial for a master's student.
- Financial backgrounds: If you have financial constraints, then the preference order should be NIT>IIIT>BITS. However, do consider the option of taking an educational loan once.
- Location: Another major factor to consider is the proximity to your home. However, coming out of your comfort zone to experience a unique form of education is certainly helpful.
- Exposure: The experience offered by BITS Pilani is much more than IIIT Hyderabad.
So, the ultimate decision depends on your personal preferences!

Should I choose NIT Jamshedpur for a CS/ECE or NIT Allahabad in chemical? Can I go for a branch change next year?
NIT Allahabad is a better choice than NIT Jamshedpur, especially for CSE. If you are not getting CSE, try going for IT because the branches are somewhat similar. Moreover, NIT Allahabad has options for internal sliding too so you can try your luck there. Chances of sliding to CSE are rare so you can try going for IT instead.
Also, If you are considering joining a core branch, except CSE, IT, and ECE, remember that you will have to appear for GATE in the last year to get a job in PSUs.
