How was your IIT Kharagpur VGSoM interview?
VGSoM at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur conducts a rigorous interview process as part of its admission criteria for MBA and other management programs. Here are some things to expect during the VGSoM interview:
- Personal introduction: The interviewers may ask you to introduce yourself and give an overview of your academic and professional background.

What do I prepare for SIBM, SCMHRD interviews?
You can never guess what the interviewer will ask in the interview, no matter how well-read you’re and how comfortable you are with talking about the current happenings. Still, it always helps boost your confidence and gives you a chance to take the conversation in any direction you want.
- Start with the basics and read your resume 10 times a day before your interview; prepare 3-4 lines on every keyword mentioned in your resume.
- Be aware of the news that aligns with your interest in any manner according to your resume. For example, if you have work experience and left the company last year, just check if it’s on the news or has undergone any major changes after your exit.
- Always have a few good achievements examples ready to back your stories up.
Remember, you don’t need to know everything you’re asked, it certainly helps if you know everything but trust me the panel is observing your approach towards a particular question. So all the best!!
How was your interview experience at IIM FMS MDI XLRI SP JAIN NMIMS SIBM SCMHRD etc, being from a commerce background?
I’ve got a a friend from commerce background, who attended the SIBM Pune interview. Here’s his experience in brief.
Profile:
- Academics: 10th- 8.6 CGPA, 12th- 67%, Undergrad- 72.7%
- No work experience
The process starts with verification later group numbers are allotted and seating arrangements are made accordingly. Then starts the GEWAT process.
Group Exercise - 1: Basically it is a game of Tetris. During the first 5 minutes, you will be asked to solve a puzzle and in the next 5 – 7 minutes you can strict to your own puzzle or try to solve it as a team. In my friend’s case, no one was able to solve the puzzle within the assigned time.
Written ability test: A video is played for which you have to write the summary with an apt title in the allotted time. For my friend, it was a video of a man walking down the street with a briefcase. And suddenly he changes into a fishnet stocking, puts on a wig, and walks away.
Group Exercise 2: This is a case discussion. Prepare for topics like political issues, business strategies, and other common topics.
Personal Interview: You will be assigned a topic outside the interview room and given a minute to think. They will ask questions based on the topic in the interview. Personal questions apart from your academics are asked related to family background, questions regarding your resume, hobbies, etc. Some of the questions that my friend remembers being asked are as follows.
- Why do an MBA rather than pursuing a job?
- What did you do since your graduation?
- What is your family background?
- What are your hobbies?
- What are 3 things that you are unaware of yourself?
Later documents like snap admit cards and mark sheets will be verified.
How was your interview experience at IIM, FMS, MDI, XLRI, SP JAIN, NMIMS, SIBM, SCMHRD, etc. being from a commerce background ?
I can tell you about my interview experience for IIM Kozhikode.
I am a working professional with three years of work experience in the Ed-tech field. My 10th is 9.4 CGPA, 12th is 80% , both from CBSE, graduation score is 71.2% and I graduated in BBA in 2018 from a college in Indore .
I gave my interview in the afternoon slot (there were a total of three slots, morning, afternoon, and evening, the morning slot is best).
The interview was in online mode (due to covid). First, they asked me to verify my official ID cards. There were two people taking my interview, one male and one female.
They started by asking about my hobbies, I told them about gyming and cricket, and the male interviewer started asking me about cricket. He asked me who scored the maximum t20 runs in the previous year, what reverse swing is, top five bowlers who could bowl reverse swing. Then they started asking me about the firm in which I worked, the valuation of the firm, its reputation, the work culture, the future of the industry, who the CEO is, and all.
Then the next person started asking me questions from my undergrad, and I wasn't able to answer the question related to that. She seems a little unsatisfied with my answers.
I was waitlisted at the end and could not be able to convert the college.
What have been your most interesting interview experiences at BIT Mesra?
There are interesting interview stories that you will get to hear at BIT Mesra. From cell phone ringing during the interview to making a blunder during the coding round and still getting through the interview. One of my juniors from BIT Mesra had an interview with a valley-based start-up. It was scheduled at night due to the time gap. He fall asleep while waiting for the interview and woke up to a missed Skype call.
How was your MICA - Ahmedabad interview??
My friend gave her interview at MICA-Ahmedabad and cleared it. According to her, the interview went in a very smooth manner and it was overall a stress-free experience for her.
The panel had three people- 2 faculty members and an individual from the corporate.
The interview was based on the SOP and the applicant’s form.
My friend mentioned in her form that she hated getting waxed. Based on this response, the interviewers conversed with her about beauty and the pressing issue of always looking gorgeous. It was more like a conversation than an interview.
My friend also mentioned in her form how she was into the sport of shooting while at school. One of the interviewers had a funny exchange with her on this subject. This made my friend feel comfortable and confident from the very beginning of the interview.
Overall, my friend had an enjoyable experience with her interview at MICA-Ahmedabad and she will always cherish the memory of that day.
How was your interview experience at NITIE Mumbai?
One of my friends appeared for the interview of the 2020-22 batch. The interview was online. The pattern was entirely new. The offline interview got canceled due to the Covid-19 situation. NITIE also cancelled the GD.
Online Interview:
They received a set of 6 questions, on which they needed to prepare a talk for five to seven minutes. The questions were regarding the following.
- General Profile (Name, Academics, Background)
- Project related details
- Questions related to jobs. Freshers were asked to speak on selected problems from their discipline.
- Questions regarding extracurricular activities, i.e. any specific achievements, awards, conference presentations, etc.
- Why NITIE?
- What is your career goal?
Apart from these 6 questions, there was a surprise question on current affairs. The time allotted for the surprise question was two minutes.
Platform:
The interview was a recorded session on the TALVIEW app/website. After you login with your credentials, the app promotes the first question. After 30 seconds the recording starts with a timer of 7 minutes. Once you submit your first answer, the second question comes on your screen and the answer is similarly recorded. They were given a time slot for recording the interview.
According to my friend they were judged based on their presentation skills, body language, confidence, and presentation. My friend's interview was quite good and he converted.
What kind of questions are asked in BIMTECH interview?
The interview in BIMTECH is part of its selection process. The students have to appear in shortlisting. I have jotted down the most common questions asked in the BIMTECH interview:
- Why would you like to pursue a PGDM?
- Why do you want to attend BIMTECH to study?
- Why made you pick this particular course?
- What are you planning to do with a PGDM?
- Who is your role model and why?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Questions related to personal attributes:
- Tell us your accomplishments
- What are your passions and how have you been able to make the most out of them
- Would you rather have a job with low pay at a large company or one with a high salary at a small company?
- A significant piece of news you read today
- The roles this management degree will play in advancing your career?
- What extracurricular activities have you been into apart from academics?
Preparing for these questions ensures 70% of your interview goes smoothly. Rest depends on your skills and luck.
What happens at Azim Premji University Interviews?
Interview round at Azim Premji University isn’t difficult. The interview will start with an introduction. They will ask some questions about your background, to break the ice. While preparing for the interview, go thoroughly through your SOP. Also, read about the course you are applying to. They generally ask why you want to join the course and the institute.
Through the interview, they will try to know your personality and interests, so that they can decide if you are suitable for the course or not.
Can I be converted into MDI Gurgaon with 95 percentile in CAT 95 percentages in 10th and 12th and 80 in B Tech with an average GDPI round?
To start with, around 2,00,000 candidates appeared for the CAT exam. This means that for every percentile, there are about 2000 people.
Now, let's say that your percentile is 95, which implies that the 5 percentile is more than yours. In other words, approximately 10000 candidates have scored better than you in the CAT exam.
Suppose that 2000 candidates did not apply for MDI, which leaves us with 8000 candidates. Looking at your good scores in 10th, 12th, and graduation, you are better than at least 4000 candidates out of the remaining 8000.
So, the number of candidates left now is 4000. In comparison, IIMs and private/government colleges like SP Jain, FMS, etc., there are around 1500 and 1000 seats available, respectively, in the general category, taking BLACKIS seats into consideration.
Assuming that they all choose colleges other than MDI, the probable candidates left for MDI with profiles better than yours would be 4000-(1500+1000) = 1500. Now, the number of seats available in MDI is approximately 350.
Considering the average GDPI, the probability of your selection in MDI would be 350/1500 = .23333. So, you have a 23.3% chance of getting selected for MDI.
