What happens in a CMC Vellore interview?

AF
Andrew Chellakumar Fenn Posted On : May 3rd, 2024
MBBS from CMC Vellore (2015)

I gave an interview for my MBBS admission at CMC Vellore back in 2015. The interview pattern at CMC has been mostly unchanged for a long time. The process lasts for 3 days.

Here is the complete breakdown of the entire MBBS interview process at CMC Vellore:

  • The candidates are segregated into groups of 5 or 6.
  • Boys and girls are arranged into different groups.
  • Two G.O. (group observers) are assigned for each group.
  • The process comprises individual tasks, group tasks, GD and PI rounds.
  • The individual tasks judge how wisely the candidates can identify doable tasks, and if they can complete those tasks in a given period.
  • The group tasks focus on how well the team members communicate and cooperate. An example of the assigned tasks is- “Build a classroom with the given materials”.
  • During the GD, each team is given a particular topic of discussion. The group observers test how well the candidates can voice their opinions in front of others. My group received the topic-“Discuss the water shortage problem in our country and how to solve it.”

The final step is the PI. The G.O.s ask similar questions in different ways. It is important to answer with confidence and firmness. One of the most frequently asked questions is- “Why did you choose medicine?”

How is the personal interview in IIT Kanpur for M. Tech selections?

PP
Pratik Parikh Posted On : April 20th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

One of my friends had appeared for VLSI MTech personal interview at IIT Kanpur and shared his experience of the same.

He was interviewed by 2 professors and one of them asked the reason for his poor marks after the first year. My friends told him about his lack of interest in the field and no core companies making it to the company for placements. He had decided to prepare for GATE instead and managed to get AIR 197 in his final year.

Next, they asked him some technical questions related to the EDC portion. He was even asked to draw a logarithmic plot of current v/s voltage for a practical diode.

Next, he was asked questions from the analog portion, which he hadn’t prepared well. To his relief, they asked him only basic questions like he was asked to identify a configuration. He wasn’t able to answer a few questions related to analog and concluded that it’s very necessary to revise your concepts even after GATE.

How was your IIM Trichy interview experience?

AJ
Arshit Jain Posted On : January 21st, 2023
Student at IIM Trichy

Here is the IIM Trichy interview experience of a candidate.

It was a cold morning in Bangalore. Finding Monarch Luxury was not difficult for someone who was familiar with the city. On the way, the candidate stopped at a nearby shop to buy the day's newspaper. Upon arriving at the venue on time, she was directed to the waiting hall where all the other candidates were already present. The candidate felt underdressed in their plain red kurta when they saw the other candidates dressed in business formals, complete with blazers.

Reminding herself that she was just one step away from the prestigious IIM tag, the candidate took a seat. The process soon began.

The topic for the WAT (Written Ability Test) was "Weddings and restaurants have different varieties of food and most of the time a large amount goes to waste. In a country like India, we cannot afford that. What are your thoughts about the same?" The candidate found that all of the large-scale topics they had prepared for this moment were useless, as this was not something they could have studied beforehand. They were simply asked to express their opinion on the given topic on an A4 sheet.

After their WAT, the candidate waited outside the PI (Personal Interview) room and tried to remember everything she had studied in the past few days. She read the newspaper and decided to go over the story of Great Britain and David Cameron in detail. She heard other candidates speaking to each other and sharing their experiences. They were asked questions about their favorite subject in their graduation course. The candidate began to panic, as she loved engineering mathematics but did not think she would be able to solve problems in front of the interviewers. She also did not want to mention coding as a favorite subject, even though she had a computer science engineering degree, because she was not proficient in it.

When her turn finally arrived, the candidate stepped into the PI room hoping they would not be asked about their graduation. The panel consisted of two men and a woman, all of whom welcomed the candidate with a smile and put them at ease. The interviewers asked the candidate about the meaning of their name, their work at IBM, and their reasons for leaving her job to pursue an MBA. The candidate was also asked about their reading habits, current events, and their career goals. The interview concluded with the interviewers thanking the candidate and wishing them luck.

If you are preparing for an interview at SPJIMR, here is what you can expect based on a student's experience.

First, you need to choose your specialization beforehand while filling out the application form. Once you receive a profile-based call, you will be shortlisted and interviewed on the basis of your chosen specialization.

On the day of the interview, make sure to reach the venue 90 minutes prior to the scheduled interview time. The admissions committee member will verify all the documents which were uploaded to the portal and will ask you to submit a photocopy of the same.

You will then be taken to another classroom for the psychometric test and WAT. The psychometric test will revolve around questions testing your morals and ethics, and you will have to choose among Strongly agree, Agree, Neutral, Disagree, and Strongly Disagree. You will also have to elaborate on the same by choosing any 3 among the 10 questions from each group. The WAT will ask you to write on a given topic within a time limit of 30 minutes.

After the written test, you will be taken for the group interview. Groups of 6 will be taken to their respective panels. You will be asked to introduce yourself, and the panelists will question you based on your specialization. Be prepared to answer questions related to your work profile and operations. You will also be asked to speak on a topic related to your specialization.

If you qualify for Group Interview 2, you will be asked questions that test your personality and character. You will also be asked to talk about a "Wow" moment in your life and something deep you have learned from your parents.

Remember, the interview process is an elimination round, so make sure to prepare well and be confident in your answers.

Is there anybody who got into IIM Lucknow after a bad interview experience?

NP
Neeraj Patel Posted On : January 7th, 2023
M.B.A from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2018)

My sister had a fairly poor interview experience and yet managed to get into IIM Lucknow. She was asked about the current issue of the world to which she mentioned the Syrian wars. He contradicted her saying it wasn’t a burning issue as it had been happening for more than 2 years. Flustered, she mentioned the US on the government's side. Further, the interviewer inquired her about her own opinion regarding the civil war. She confidently said that she couldn’t support any side due to the extremist quality of either of them. But the interviewer wasn’t satisfied and urged her to take a side and give a rather clear answer.

The discussion continued for a few minutes after which he asked her about the Kashmir issue.

After many diplomatic talks, he finally asked about her current role in the company and asked if she had any experience in E and P.

The interview was rather prolonged with a lot of contradictions and awkward situations. The interviewer kept cutting her off in the middle of answers. Toward the end, she was asked to solve a statistics problem which she managed to solve in 5 seconds. She was then asked to leave. She had little or no hopes of getting a call but as luck would have it she managed to get into IIM Lucknow.

How is the interview process at IIM Ranchi?

MJ
Manan Jain Posted On : January 11th, 2023
studied MBA in Marketing at Indian Institutes of Management (2020)

My friend got a call for an interview from IIM Ranchi. Her CAT score was 97-98 percentile and she had around 4 years of experience. She was called in by 3 male panelists who first asked her to introduce herself and speak about herself. When they felt she was comfortable enough they started asking questions like

  • The name of one Power manufacturer in Hyderabad
  • How hydroelectric power is generated
  • Where is Asia’s first Hydro-electric power situated
  • Why she chose to pursue an MBA after working for 4 years
  • What would she have done if there were no MBA colleges
  • Her long term goal
  • Her weaknesses

She was able to answer almost all the questions confidently. Her interview lasted for 30 minutes after which they asked her to leave. Fortunately, she was selected for the final shortlist. Based on her experience, she shared the following tips for anyone who is appearing for an interview

  • Prepare your answers related to your current job and role.
  • Conduct historical research about the places you have visited or stayed at
  • Prepare strong points that will help you turn the table in the worst-case scenarios.
  • Read current affairs and news headlines
  • Be your genuine self. Trust me this will help you win their favor more than anything else.

So give your level best with utmost confidence and you are good to go.

Are you in IIM Rohtak? If yes, could you please give me an idea about the kind of interview they take?

S
Sagardeep Posted On : January 17th, 2023
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Rohtak (Graduated 2022)

Here is the interview experience of one of the students from IIM Rohtak.

The first two minutes of the interview were conducted impromptu. She got the then-trending topic of the Sabarimala temple and women's participation in it. She'd done a lot of research on the subject, so she felt comfortable discussing the specifics. She remained objective and spoke about both opposing viewpoints. This section assisted her in becoming more comfortable with speaking and developing a consistent flow.

The interview portion began immediately after the extempore portion ended. One male and one female panelist were present. They scanned her file and inquired about her certificates for sports and extracurricular activities. The first two questions concerned her undergraduate studies. The following two questions were about the differences between digital and internet marketing.

The following two questions were lighter in nature. She was questioned regarding the state's greeting phrase, Punjab, as well as the number of districts and largest city in the state.

She had just graduated and had no prior work experience, so she brought along a creative or physical specimen to display as her finished product in the brief internships she completed concurrently with her graduation. The final query related to the concept of the inventive tool and its application within the company.

In addition, the interview provided her with the opportunity to tour the IIM Rohtak campus in all of its splendor.

How can I prepare for the design aptitude test (DAT) and personal interview (PI) for admission to CPDM, IISc Bangalore?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 18th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

DAT or the Design Aptitude Test has 2 parts DAT I and DAT II and the selection of the interview is done on the basis of the first one.  DAT I like a CEED examination has no multiple-choice questions while DAT II covers basic electronics, engineering mechanics, and materials science. The mathematical problems will be such that students from any branch are able to solve them.

The final selection is done on the basis of the total score from the DAT and the PI. The acceptance ratio of CPDM is around 10% as about 200+ students sit for DST and only 20-25 students are selected.  One of my friends got selected for the PI round and was asked the following questions

  • Questions asked were meant to evaluate your approach to designing products or services.
  • Design assignments were given that tested your approach to designing
  • You will be questioned about your past experiences, academics, and your projects.

The best way to get selected is to present a unique idea while sounding genuine. Dont bluff as they are quick to catch and you will lose your chance.

How was your IIM Lucknow interview experience for batch 2020-22?

NS
Nishad Shah Posted On : January 8th, 2023
Media and Public Relations at Indian Institute of Management Kashipur (2018–present)

My cousin appeared for the interview of IIM Lucknow for the 2020-22 batch. He claimed that most of the aspirants were top-notch and had him lower his self-confidence. There were 7 panels in total.

  • WAT round: The topic for WAT was GDP growth vs Human Development Index(HDI). He had prepared the topic while preparing for the interview so this round went pretty well.
  • PI: The personal interview witnessed many heated arguments among the candidates and interviewers.

As soon as my cousin entered the room, he was asked for the file. He asked him why he chose IIM Lucknow over ISB. My cousin praised the institute saying it was parred with many great other B Schools. However, the interviewer did not seem satisfied so my cousin added that the IIM tag was inevitable. They enquired him about his current job and his interest. He said he was interested in operations or supply chain management. The interviewer asked him why he was not into consulting.

He further asked him about his dream job, hobbies, and other stuff. They asked me what other calls I have converted and preferred the most. Lastly, they asked him why he chose IIM Lucknow over Rohtak. After listening to his answer he complimented him for his honesty and asked him to leave the room. Luckily he was selected and got into IIM Lucknow.
