I’m in the B.Tech Electrical Engineering Power and Automation branch at IIT Delhi, and it’s been quite a journey. The curriculum is rigorous, requiring specific credits from our department and electives from others. We have mid-semester exams and assignments, which can be challenging but rewarding.

When it comes to placements in 2025/26, the numbers are impressive. Around 900-1000 offers are made every year, with the highest package reaching up to 3-4 crore! Most students, about 70-80%, get placed, while others often join startups or prepare for UPSC exams.

The campus life is vibrant too, with festivals and events happening all the time, making it a well-rounded experience.

I’m currently pursuing B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi, and I can say the curriculum is really well-rounded. It has hands-on projects that prepare us for real-world scenarios. The internships available are diverse too, with big names like Amazon and Microsoft hiring interns. As for placements in 2025/26, they’re expected to be stellar, with over 85% of students getting offers from top-notch companies. I personally interned at Tata Motors and worked on some cool automotive designs. The campus life is vibrant too, which makes it all the more enjoyable!

Honestly, if placements are a major concern, you’d be better off choosing DTU Computer Science over any core branch. Opportunities in core branches are quite limited.

IIT Delhi Civil Engineering:

• Generally, it's an academically relaxed department.
• Known for hosting the best dinners and meetings.
• Offers pathways into civil services (many students pursue this).
• Consulting is an option (but you need to build the right profile).
• There are software engineering jobs available, but they aren't particularly glamorous.

IIT Kharagpur Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering:

• This branch has decent placement opportunities.
• It’s a solid choice if you’re interested in electronics and electrical fields.

I don't have much knowledge about the computational branch at IIT Hyderabad, and I'm unsure if one exists.

Firstly, let me be clear: IIT DELHI IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN IIT KGP. Now, let’s break it down:

• PERCEPTION OF PEOPLE:
  • IITD > IIT KGP
  • MATH & COMPUTING ~ EE (approximately equal, but MNC has an edge over EE due to its proximity to CS)
• JOB OPPORTUNITIES:
  • EE covers a broader field, encompassing both software and hardware. MNC is more focused on software computing.
  • So, EE ~ MNC (but MNC still has an advantage over EE, again because of its connection to CS)
• ACCEPTABILITY IN OTHER FIELDS:
  • EE graduates can transition to various related fields easily, as electrical courses are taken by many students from other branches. MNC, however, is more limited to math and IT.
  • Therefore, EE > MNC
• IN OTHER COLLEGES:
  • EE is a timeless branch, found in most engineering colleges. MNC is a “hybrid” branch introduced to meet the rising demand for CS! It’s not available in many colleges, which limits its acceptability elsewhere.
  • So, EE > MNC
• RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES:
  • EE > MNC
• ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT:
  • IITD > IIT KGP

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers superior placement prospects compared to IIT Guwahati's B.Tech in Chemical Science and Technology. The rigorous curriculum at IIT Delhi equips students for high-paying roles in tech and finance, with top companies like Microsoft and Jane Street recruiting heavily, and last year's highest package hitting an impressive 4 crore. On the other hand, while IIT Guwahati has a solid reputation, the job market for Chemical Science tends to be narrower, focusing more on traditional industries. Therefore, if you're aiming for lucrative tech and quant roles, IIT Delhi is the way to go, but if you have a passion for chemical sciences and want to explore that field, IIT Guwahati could be a better fit.

I don't have much knowledge about Biotech Engineering, but as someone familiar with Agricultural Engineering, I believe this branch has limited applications.

• Agricultural Engineering combines Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Chemical/Food Engineering.
• This combination can be a drawback because you end up being neither a full Mechanical Engineer nor a full Civil Engineer.

When it comes to employment, Mechanical Engineering (like in the tractor industry) and Civil Engineering (especially in water and irrigation) are core competitors.

The tuition fee per semester is around 1,00,000 Rs. This totals to about 2 lakhs for a year. The other significant expense is the mess and hostel fee, which is approximately 30,000 Rs per year.

When you add in other minor expenses, the total cost comes to about 2.5 lakhs per year for a general category student.

For students belonging to the SC/ST category, there is no tuition fee at all. Additionally, there are various fee concessions available based on parental income.

The fees for IITs can vary depending on the specific IIT. However, for IIT Delhi, the approximate total fees for B.Tech in Industrial & Production Engineering is around INR 2,28,000. Other IITs have fees that are generally in this range as well.
