All of these colleges have good rankings for their BTech courses and offer good placement opportunities to their engineering students.

• MNNIT was ranked at 14 in the Top Public colleges in India 2020 by India Today and 19 for B.Tech in India 2019 by The Week.
• IIIT Allahabad on the other hand was ranked 9 by India Today and 103 by NIRF for its B.Tech Course.
• DTU has an upstanding ranking record as it was ranked at 1 by The Times Of India and 36 by NIRF in India 2020 for its B.Tech course.
• ISM Dhanbad was ranked at 13 by The Week and 12 by NIRF in India 2020 for its B.Tech Course.

A comparison is presented below to explain the factors to be considered while choosing an engineering course from these universities.

Campus Placement:

MNNIT Allahabad –

• A total of 285 companies visited MNNIT’s campus for recruitment in 2019 and out of the eligible 1174 students, 792 were placed.
• The highest package offered in 2019 being INR 36 LPA.
• The median salary offered is around INR 8 LPA.

IIIT Allahabad –

• In the recent placements, IIIT Allahabad held a 96% placement rate with the highest package offered of INR 43 LPA.
• Whereas, the median salary was recorded around 12.9 LPA.

DTU –

Outlook India ranked DTU as 1 college in the placement category.

• The placement cell of DTU has a stellar record by achieving 100% placement in the previous years.
• In 2019, 323 companies visited DTU and the highest package offered was a whopping INR 1.02 Cr. (PA).
• The median salary of DTU is around 9 LPA.

ISM Dhanbad -

• IIT Dhanbad has a dedicated placement cell known as the Career Development Centre through which students have been successfully placed at various organizations including top giants such as Deloitte, Presidency University, Amazon, BYJUs Learning, Vedanta, Tesco, JCB, Infosys, Microsoft, and many more.
• The highest package offered in 2019 placements was INR 39.50 LPA.
• Whereas, the median salary offered was around 8.50 LPA.

There are numerous placement and scholarship opportunities available in these colleges, however, it depends more on the student’s interest and feasibility.

MAIT is ranked as the 3rd Best College in Delhi by India Today and ranks within 200 nationally. Whereas, JIIT holds a national rank of 115 by the NIRF. The departments of IT at MAIT and JIIT have a total of 180 and 60 seats respectively and charge a 4-year tuition fee of 4.63 lakhs and 10 lakhs respectively.

Admission and Cut-off:

Both the colleges admit students based on their JEE Main scores.

• The general cut-off for MAIT in-state students is 65,157 and out-of-state students are 37,689.

• The closing rank for IT at JIIT is 59,407.

Faculty and curriculum:

MAIT provides an extensive course structure with excellent faculty and conducts regular workshops and industrial visits, whereas JIIT provides an updated, and relevant course curriculum and faculties are Ph.D. holders from IITs and foreign universities.

Placements:

Students securing a rank within 2000 in the GGSIPU college Btech examination are favored for on-campus job placements at MAIT.

The placement record of the IT department in JIIT is one of the best, and the college is associated with mass recruiters like Jaypee Software and Jaypee Technology. The placement details of the universities are as follows.

Some of the top recruiters at the institutes are Amazon, ZS, Paytm, AAI, TCS, Grofers, and Morgan Stanley.

Infrastructure:

• MAIT has excellent infrastructure with air-conditioned labs and classrooms. All the labs have up-to-date computers. There are seven blocks dedicated to engineering and four canteens all over the campus. Proper hygiene is maintained on the campus, and the university offers various sports facilities like badminton, tennis, cricket, football, and volleyball.

• On top of having air-conditioned smart classrooms and labs, JIIT provides cafeterias and also has separate swimming pools for both men and women.

Both the universities are at the same level when it comes to facilities and student satisfaction; however, deciding which college to pursue a degree depends on the student’s comfort and affordability.

Being a central university and highly popular national university of importance, IIEST Shibpur not only attracts the best faculty from across the country but also receives funding from the central government on a yearly basis which helps the university maintain its infrastructure, upgrade to the latest trends in the world and better their services. IEM is a private university with a NIRF ranking of 191 in 2020.

• Placement Services: Considering placements are the most important deciding factor to understand the scope of an institution, let us have a look at the placement facilities across the two academic universities:

• Crowd: IIEST attracts students from all across the country due to its national importance and is the second oldest engineering college in India. IEM on the other hand being a private university does not see diversity among students and is not very popular as compared to IIEST.
• Campus: The infrastructure of both colleges are very different from each other. IIEST is known for its beautiful huge academic buildings, library, sports complex, and research labs. IEM, on the other hand, has a relatively small campus that offers hostel facilities, a cafeteria, a library, and an auditorium.
• Alumni: The alumni network at IIEST is unbeatable with world leaders like Dr. Bimal Bose, Leader in Power Electronics, and Dr. Kajal Gupta, Chief Technologist at NASA. IEM does not have a notable list of alumni considering it is not very popular amongst the masses.

Hence, if students have a good JEE score and are eligible to get into IIEST, it would be advisable to do so instead of choosing a private institution such as IEM- based on the factors mentioned above.

PEC Chandigarh ranks 68 among the top pioneer engineering colleges by NIRF 2020. It maintains a standard placement record of 80% by providing jobs in top quality MNCs. 

UIET Chandigarh ranks 54th among the private engineering colleges by NIRF ranking and maintains a placement record of 80%. 

Admission Process

PEC Chandigarh:

• The minimum marks required is 75% marks in 10+2 along with a valid score in JEE Main.
• The seats for metallurgy and material science available are 28. 
• The course fee is INR 3.45 LPA.
• The cutoff required in JEE Main is in the range of 22511-32666.

UIET Chandigarh:

• The admission is based on the valid score of 75% marks in 10+2 with JEE Main. 
• The course fee is INR 3.25 LPA.
• The seats available are 40 for the course of IT.
• The cutoff required in JEE Main is in the range of 24265-35348.

Placements:

The placements in both these colleges are good and many of the companies offer handsome packages to the students every year. CSE receives the highest amount of placement of 100%. 

The top companies are Google, IBM, Directi, Hero Honda, Deloitte, Microsoft, Accenture, Ericsson, etc. 

Facilities:

• The central library of PEC Chandigarh has a collection of 1 lakh volumes of books and research papers. 
• There are six hostels in the campus, four of them are for boys and two for girls. 
• A 120 capacity of air-conditioned hall in UIET Chandigarh for holding presentations and interactive sessions.
• The university library of UIET Chandigarh has an inflibnet network which allows them to connect through the digital facilities. 

Although, UIET provides more placements for all the branches, however, PEC Chandigarh is more preferred than UIET since PEC is one of the oldest institutions in Chandigarh.
