MAIT is one of the top ten colleges in Delhi and is amongst the top 100 colleges in India for pursuing a BTech degree. Although NIEC holds no such ranking, the management and infrastructure of the college are at the same level as MAIT.

Admission Criteria:

There are three rounds for admission. For taking admission in these colleges, students must sit for the JEE Main examination and the prerequisite for admission is a minimum of 55% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in 10+2.

NIEC- The IT department at NIEC has a total of 180 seats out of which 85% are reserved for Delhi candidates.

• The college has a general cut-off of 14, 9262 for students residing in Delhi and 87727 for out-of-state students.

• The cut-off for SC/ST/OBC is 585015.

MAIT- The EEE department at MAIT also has 180 seats out of which 85% are reserved for Delhi candidates.

• The college has a general cut-off of 154753 for students residing in Delhi and 63215 for out-of-state students.

• The cut-off for SC/ST/OBC for students in Delhi is 615460 and outside Delhi is 461051.

Placement Details:

NIEC-

The placement of the IT department at NIEC is better than the other core departments of the college.

• The average salary offered is 2 LPA, while the highest is 6.5 LPA.

• In 2020 more than 60% of the students got placed in companies like Infosys, Wipro, Samsung, Amazon.

• Students of this department have to look for off-campus internships on their own as the college plays no role in providing internships.

MAIT- The placement of the EEE department at MAIT is average.

• The average salary is 3.5 LPA and the highest salary is 12 LPA.

• Very few companies come to recruit students from the EEE department, and mostly the IT and CSE departments are favored. Companies like Accenture, Infosys visit the campus placements.

• Internships are not provided by the college, but students can contact its placement cell for guidance.

• More than 47% of the students got placed in 2020 from EEE.

Both the colleges have excellent infrastructure with well-maintained classrooms, libraries, and updated laboratories. MAIT has additional housing and gym facilities which are not provided by NIEC. The course curriculums of IT and EEE departments at NIEC and MAIT are not updated, and there is less industry exposure. The tuition fee for IT at NIEC and EEE at MAIT for four years is 3.87 and 4.69 respectively.

Punjab Engineering College University(PEC) and MNNIT offer various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs across various streams. According to NIRF Engineering ranking 2020, PEC stands at 68th position, MNNIT grabs an impressive 48th rank. The highest package offered at PEC was 42 LPA and 36 LPA at MNNIT. The mode of entrance exam remains the same for both the colleges that are JEE mains for undergraduates and GATE for postgraduates.

Cutoff:

• For CS at PEC the required cutoff is 21181-40237.

• At MNNIT 3133-4986 is the required cutoff for IT.

Facilities:

• PEC has 4 hostels for boys and 2 for girls, a central library consisting of a bound volume of books, more than 10 clubs, and publishes a yearly magazine(articles contributed by the students).

• MNNIT offers students a home-like atmosphere that includes facilities like 24*7 canteen facilities, student clubs, guest rooms, books, and stationery shops.

Course fee:

Both colleges have prepared an affordable fee structure for students. Scholarships are also offered to students with excellent academics, poor economical background, and female students.

Faculty:

• PEC has experienced faculties in all its departments. There are a total of 139 faculty members.

• MNNIT has a good number of Ph.D. faculties experienced in particular fields. The institute consists of a good number of associate professors.

Placements:

PEC Chandigarh:

• The highest package offered at PEC is INR 42 LPA and the average package is INR 6 LPA.

• Some of the recruiting companies include Infosys, Capgemini, Amazon, Wipro, TCS.

Training and development cell helps the students to prepare themselves for the upcoming placement.

MNNIT:

• A total of 792 students were placed at MNNIT.

• The highest package offered was INR 36.6 LPA and the median package was INR 4 LPA.

• A total of 285 companies visited the college.

Both colleges have well-developed research labs. Different scholarships are offered to the students at PEC that include economically weaker sections/women's/students with disabilities, one student of each branch for its academic excellence, and a half-free ship on tuition fee. MNNIT offers a similar scholarship as PEC. Students need to decide which branch they would prefer, before selecting the college. Both the colleges do have impressive placement, ranking, faculty, facilities, and a lot more.

It’s difficult to determine which institute is better as the courses in question are different. However, given below are information about the two courses which may help you make the decision.

• Though NIT Surathkal is among the oldest of the NIT’s, their IT department is comparatively new. IIT Bhubaneswar’s Mechanical Engineering department is popular and one of the core subjects.
• It is always better to study Mechanical engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar than IT from NIT Surathkal because core engineering will be preferred by recruiting companies than IT.
• NIT Surathkal has better placements than IIT Bhubaneswar due to its older and more noticeable connections with the recruiting companies.
• An IIT Bhubaneswar graduate will be offered less salary than an NIT graduate due to its reputation and popularity among recruiters. A graduate from NIT receives an average salary package of around 9 lakhs per annum.
• NIT Surathkal is ranked 5th in their Engineering category and IIT Bhubaneswar ranked 9th in their engineering category by Times Engineering Ranking 2019.
• The Cut off for IT in NIT is 2509-3321 and for Mechanical Engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar is 4003-12065.
• IIT (Bhubaneswar) as a brand that is much more popular than NIT (Surathkal) and is valued by both students and recruiters alike.

The final decision is up to the choice of a student and his/her preferred course of study.

NIT Surathkal, formerly called Karnataka Regional Engineering College(KREC), located in Mangalore is an amalgamation of 13 departments, 1 school, 12 supporting centers, and 245 eminent dedicated faculty members. NIT Surathkal is ranked 13th in Engineering by and 33rd overall by NIRF 2020. MNNIT, Allahabad is a UGC and AICTE approved institute and has been ranked 14th by India Today 2020.

Admission to IT at NIT Surathkal and CSE at MNNIT is done through scores obtained in the JEE Mains entrance test and percentage in 10+2.

Placement:

NIT Surathkal:

It witnessed 100% placement in B.Tech and 79% in M.Tech during the batch of 2019.

• The highest package offered in the B.Tech program was 39 LPA while at M.Tech it was 18.75LPA.

• In the year 2018, more than 92% of the students were placed with the participation of more than 250 companies in the placement drive.

• Top recruiters at NIT Surathkal are Amazon, Honeywell, Axis Bank, Philips, Qualcomm, Bajaj, Samsung, Dell, Deloitte, Caterpillar, etc.

MNNIT Allahabad:

In the 2019 placement drive at MNNIT Allahabad, 1174 students participated out of which 792 students were placed.

• The highest CTC offered was 36 LPA with Accenture being the prominent recruiter.

• At MNNIT Allahabad, the B.Tech CSE batch of 2019 witnessed the highest recruitment with 163 students being placed out of 167. In terms of M.Tech, 84 students were placed out of 320 who participated in the placement drive.

• Some of the major recruiters at MNNIT Allahabad are Adobe, American Express, DRDO, Berger Paints, Coal India, CISCO, Bajaj Auto, eBay, etc.

MNNIT Allahabad:

CSE department of MNNIT is equipped with internet connectivity of 10.5 Gbps supported through Optical fiber, 104 HP Compaq Elite 8300, 2 IBM Blade Server, 48 HP 406 G1 MT Business PCs, IBM SAN Storage, etc.

Both the universities are of high repute, offering quality education and high placement drive.
