Is IISER Bhopal a good choice for engineering?
IISER Bhopal is a good option for Engineering. The course structure is good. You will study the primary subjects of engineering and basic sciences. Is it safe to go to IIT Jammu?
Yes, it's definitely safe to go to IIT Jammu, and has no relations with its neighboring city Kashmir whatsoever. Jammu will give you a sense of security and safety and make you feel at home. Operating under the mentorship of IIT Delhi, IIT Jammu has facilities and curriculum quite similar to IIT Delhi. Even the extreme climate you will experience here is like Delhi. Those who have safety concerns should know that the main cause of concern, Kashmir is located about 300+ km away. Whatever happens, there has no effect on the life of people in Jammu. I really hope the media clarifies this further by portraying the right image of Jammu. IIT Jammu is located in a serene location and the city Jammu is like any other north Indian city. You will find the locals here to be very hospitable and friendly. The culture is somewhat similar to Punjabis and the food here is great. So, denounce the general misconception and come and enjoy the beautiful life at IIT Jammu.
Are least ranked NITs like Agartala, Srinagar, etc. good? Or should one prefer colleges like VIT/SRM/Manipal?
I graduated from VIT Vellore in 2023, with a B.Tech degree in ECE branch.
You’ll probably come across people who’ll tell you that low ranking NITs like NIT Agartala, Srinagar, etc. still carry the ‘NIT’ tag, and thus, they have a higher brand value compared to VIT Vellore. However, that is not the case.
My sister is currently studying at NIT Agartala, and according to her, VIT Vellore has a much higher industry reputation and a bigger brand name in comparison to lower ranking NITs.
I have personally come across NITians who were unplaced after graduation. But as far as VIT Vellore is concerned, it delivers a high placement record each year. Many of the NITs suffer from poor infrastructure and shortage of facilities because of lack of funding and bad administration. As a private institution, VIT Vellore does not suffer in these areas.
These are some reasons why I chose VIT Vellore for my B.Tech despite getting lower ranking NITs after 12th. If you are happy with the location, and you get your desired branch at VIT Vellore, I would recommend you to join this institution.
What should I pack while leaving for NIT trichy?
While leaving for the NIT Trichy hostel, there are a few things that you should pack as a fresher. These include:
- You will be provided with a cot but do get bedsheets and pillows with you. They do sell these items outside the hostel, however, the quality is not good.
- Do bring your locks and keychains with you. You will need a lock for your cupboard.
- Add 10 formal and 5 informal sets of clothes. You will procrastinate on washing your clothes most of the time. Therefore, keep a good amount of clothes to wear for your classes. Bring both formal shoes and sports shoes with you. I wore only formals for the first three months, but after three months I wore formals very rarely.
- Bring your clips and hangers for your clothes. The hostel will provide you with a clothesline to dry your laundry. Buy your bucket for bathing.
- Get a flask or a good quality water bottle to fill drinking water.
- Trichy is very hot during the day. People tend to get giant table fans to allow for aggressive ventilation. If you can afford it, get an air cooler. Also, add umbrellas and caps to the list.
- Do get a room freshener because the rooms stink a lot when you first enter them.
- Get a broomstick if you intend to clean your room regularly.
- Get a trolly bag with you so that whenever you wish to travel home you can pack all your essentials and get going.
If you carry these things when you arrive at the NIT Trichy hostel, you will have a good time without worrying about unnecessary stuff.
Should I opt for CSE in IIT Gandhinagar?
IIT Gandhinagar CSE is a well-regarded program and despite being newly launched it has gained popularity in a short time period. This in itself is a testament to the quality of education offered here. The institute fairs well in almost all aspects be it faculty, opportunities, internships, and projects, etc.
The new IITs have their own weaknesses and strengths. Even the departments within an institute are not at the same level. The CSE department of IIT Gandhinagar is certainly superior among other branches of the institute and the institute itself is better than other new IITs. The professors here have high qualifications and a strong research profile.
In all, you should certainly join CAE at IIT Gandhinagar if you want to experience a good campus life, with locational advantages, and excellent placements.
Why do rankers prefer AIIMS Bhopal over AIIMS Jodhpur?
During NEET UG Counselling, a lot of candidates prefer AIIMS Bhopal over AIIMS Jodhpur for MBBS if not able to get a seat at AIIMS Delhi. Both AIIMS Jodhpur and AIIMS Bhopal are equally good colleges and amongst the top-ranked ones in the country.
One major reason why students opt for AIIMS Bhopal over AIIMS Jodhpur is due to the location of AIIMS Bhopal and its larger connectivity than AIIMS Jodhpur. AIIMS Bhopal is located in Central India and the state it is located in, i.e. Madhya Pradesh. The hostels at AIIMS Bhopal are as good as AIIMS Jodhpur, however, has much more freedom. The city of Bhopal also gives one more reason for students to join AIIMS Bhopal.
AIIMS Jodhpur is a bit far from the main city and the connectivity also is not as good as AIIMS Bhopal. There is also less freedom for students as the campus and the hostel wardens are extremely strict as well.
Thus, the location and connectivity of AIIMS Bhopal is one big reason why rankers prefer AIIMS Bhopal over AIIMS Jodhpur.
Is there a management quota in Jadavpur University?
There is no such thing as a management quota at Jadavpur University. Admission at the university is based on merit. For some courses, the university also accepts valid scores in WBJEE or other entrance exams. However, there are a few seats in the ministry quota.
Which college is better, LHMC or RML?
I don’t know much about RML/ABVIMS, but I can highlight a few points about LHMC-
- Clinical Exposure- RML offers more clinical exposure for medicine and surgery. This is why half of LHMC postings are conducted at RML. However, LHMC is one of the best in India for Gynae and Paeds. Moreover, LHMC has opened a new academic block, a new OPD block, and new super specialty blocks in recent years. This will increase clinical exposure at LHMC.
- Infrastructure and location- LHMC campus is small yet beautiful. It is located in CP, and well connected to the rest of Delhi NCR via metro.
- DU quota- As an LHMC student, you’ll get a DU quota for PG studies in MAMC, LHMC, and UCMS. IPU has a huge number of PG seats, but the competition is quite high.
Both RML and LHMC are top medical colleges in Delhi. As a student of LHMC, I can assure you that our college provides ample growth opportunities.
Which branch and college did you get in the CSAB round 1 of counseling in 2019, and at what rank?
One of my friends got MNIT Jaipur Computer Science in the CSAB round 1 of counseling. He had filled in the following four choices-
- MNIT Jaipur -CS
- IIIT Allahabad- IT
- SVNIT Surat - CS
- VNIT Nagpur- CS
He knew that if he failed to make it into any of these, he would have to join BITS leaving everything. He however had hoped to get into MNIT Jaipur as it had a vacancy for OS GEN EWS Quota. The Round 7 EWS cutoff was 572 and his rank was 596. Luckily, he was able to make it after a long wait of two days.
