How was your first day at AIIMS Raipur?
One of my friends studied at AIIMS Raipur. According to him during his first year he realized that the college is extremely disciplined and punctual.
- The classes started at about 10 AM. So they have to wake up early at 7 in the morning to get prepared for attending the classes.
- At 9:30 AM there was a bus that students availed to travel to the college. It usually took 15 minutes to reach the campus.
- After that they were escorted to the lecture hall where the department of anatomy welcomed everyone and got to know every student.
- After the introductory session they were taken to various anatomy labs and dissection hall to get acquainted with the department.
- Students were told about the dress code and discipline.
- The student crowd here is very diverse.
- The faculty also introduced themselves.
Lastly, they were told that for one week they will have introductory sessions with different departments and then will be released to go back to the hostel.
Which institute is better between IIT(ISM) Dhanbad and IIT BHU??
I am a B.Tech student at IIT BHU. According to me, our institution is better than IIT Dhanbad in several aspects. Here are some of them-
- IIT BHU was originally established in 1919, giving it a richer legacy than IIT Dhanbad, which was established in 1964.
- IIT Dhanbad is mainly known for its courses on mining and earth sciences, So it is an excellent choice for someone who is interested in those fields. However, IIT BHU has an established reputation for its studies in a variety of specialisations.
- IIT BHU ranks better in various rankings as compared to IIT Dhanbad.
- IIT BHU has a larger and more diverse alumni base across various industries.
- IIT BHU offers a wider range of research work and collaborations.
- IIT BHU generally offers better placements than IIT Dhanbad.

At IIT BHU, you’ll form social connections with students/faculty members from various academic spheres, and not just engineering. This is because IIT BHU is a part of the reputed Banaras Hindu University.
Overall, IIT BHU is better than IIT Dhanbad, the only exception being if someone is highly interested in mining and related fields.
I wanted to take admission in iiit delhi but fees is too high. I wanted to know whether i am eligible for fee relaxation?
IIIT Delhi indeed has very high fees. But it also has several schemes for a partial fee waiver. One such scheme is based on means for which you might actually be eligible. Students whose total family income is INR 22,000 per month, will be eligible for a 50% fee waiver provided that the tuition paid at your school is up to INR 25,000 per annum. In case your school tuition is up to Rs. 45,000 per annum, you will be eligible for a 25% fee waiver only.
Additionally, there is a merit-based fee waiver under which if your final JEE rank is up to 2000, then you get a scholarship of INR 1 lakh per year.
Students can also take out educational loans easily since IIIT Delhi is approved by the State Bank of India under the SBI Scholar scheme which gives out loans easily.
What is your review about IIEST, Shibpur?
One of my friends is a final-year student at IIEST Shibpur. According to him, the placement last year has been great. Microsoft IDC (PPO), Mentor Graphics, CESC Ltd (PPO), Tata Steel (PPO), Bentley Systems completed their recruitment process on campus and hired more candidates than they did last year. Companies like Atlassian, Samsung R&D, and PwC are also expected to recruit on campus. A brief discussion about placements and other aspects of the institute are as follows.
Placements:
- Pre-final year students got internship offers from various firms like Microsoft R&D, Deutsche Bank, Wells Fargo, and Texas Instruments this year. Other firms which will be having on-campus recruitment will most likely be hiring interns also. Hence, needless to mention that the placement scenario has continued its trend of improvement this year as well.
- Students have been hired in companies like Microsoft IDC, Cognizant, Samsung R&D, Infosys, TCS Research and Innovation, Z. S. Associates, etc. from campus placements. Off-campus placements also include Google (Bangalore).
- The median salary that has been offered is around 7 LPA and every one of the scholars participating in placements got placed. The placement cell improved and has become more proactive and efficient in training and placement of scholars.
Infrastructure:
- All departments, libraries and hostels are Wi-Fi enabled with decent speeds. The Science and Technology Department features a 1Gigabit backbone network.
- The rooms and labs are well maintained and have all the specified equipment. The central library is not extremely big but features a good assortment of useful titles. There are smaller departmental libraries also.
- The hostels are decent and clean but might be improved. They need indoor game facilities also. A replacement hostel for women has just been built and features a far better review.
- There are multiple canteens on Campus serving good quality food at reasonable rates and a CCD stall with significantly cheaper rates than usual.
- Other amenities include Gymnasium, Sports fields, Court and Infirmary.
Faculty:
- The college consists of highly qualified and knowledgeable teachers. They clear the doubts if consulted. Most teachers teach using both chalkboard and multimedia aids.
- There are multiple teachers and other lab assistants to guide the students during the lab classes.
- The course curriculum is aligned with most other national institutions and contains the essential topics necessary for the course.
The campus is lush green and located on the bank of the river Ganges. Right beside the institute is Botanical Gardens. Many events take place at the institute all year around. There are annual Techno-Management fest Instruo, Annual Cultural fests Rebecca and Anuranan, and departmental fests. Besides that, there are also sports events. Meritorious students can avail scholarships sponsored by the Alumni Association.
Which college should I choose now that I have the option of BR Ambedkar or Shyam Lal college? Also should I consider any evening college?
Here are some things you need to consider before choosing a college. These include the following.
- If you want to select an institution by considering the ranking, opt for Shyam Lal followed by BR Ambedkar.
- Evening colleges tend to have lower ranks overall.
- Your decision should also depend on the location of the college. As daily transportation will be necessary.
- You can opt for evening colleges if you have a job during the day.
- Shyam Lal is definitely preferred more than B.R Ambedkar.
- As both the colleges are equally good in placements and faculty.
- The difference lies in the infrastructure and the environment you get to study in, for which Shyam Lal is a better option.

Try not to go for evening colleges unless you are very uncomfortable with the morning timings. Because more preference is given to the morning batch students during placements.
How is ECE at IIT, Guwahati?
ECE department of IIT Guwahati is known for its excellent research work and quality of education. The department has many professors who are specialized in Signal processing and related areas of electronics. However, the VLSI and Microelectronics group has less number of faculties around 5-6 while electromagnetics and microwaves with only two faculty.
The reason why I am telling you about the faculty count is that the optional courses and projects offered will be having approximately the same ratio of streams as that of faculty expertise. For those interested in a core career or research work need to consider this point seriously.

What is it like to study at NERIST?
My brother recently graduated from the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST).
The institute has a great blend of diversity, unlike any other institutes in India. 90% of the seats are for the eight north-eastern states with an equal number of seats. 10% of the reserved seats are for the all-India quota. You will get to learn about different cultures and lifestyles.
The infrastructure of the institute is great. There are hostels, lecture centers, laboratory facilities, auditorium, convenience store, canteen, medical facilities available on campus.
Apart from the cultural aspect, the college fee is low, and the professors are graduates from top IITs and NITs. It gives an edge to NERIST over other institutes.
How is/was your life in NALSAR, NLSIU or NLU-D?
One of my friends studied at NLU. According to him, life at NLU was challenging. It was not difficult but challenging in a way that the beliefs he had changed gradually. It helped him learn things about himself and evolve. He learned that life in a hostel is what someone makes of it.
- The hostels of NLU Delhi feel more like a boarding school as there are restrictions galore, not only in the form of timings of entry and exit but for the hostels in entirety.
- NLU suffers from the lack of sporting culture and sufficient facilities for sports. Other than for volleyball, basketball and to some extent for badminton also.
- Due to the attitude of the administration, it is difficult to play football and cricket.
- The library of NLU is very good and it allows a lot of subscriptions for students who have various interests.
- The library also provides room for legal research and learning which is enviable.
- There are hardly any events in the institute. Students usually head out of campus for having fun.
Speaking about NALSAR and NLSIU, both their campus extra-curricular activities are much more vibrant than NLU Delhi. However, both institutes have a competitive environment for study and also have a lot to offer, unlike NLU Delhi.
How is the MS by research program at IIT, Madras?

How are the aerospace engineering departments at IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras??
Aerospace Engineering can be further divided into four parts
- Aerodynamics - An extension of fluid mechanics
- Structures - All about mechanics of materials
- Propulsion - A good base in aerodynamics will help you
- Controls and dynamics - Mainly used for navigation
Apart from this there is a lot of Math involved in the curriculum.
The aerospace engineering branches of all the institutes you mentioned give an edge to each other and are equally good. The choice should be based on personal preference, accessibility, campus life, academics, extracurricular activities and placements.
IIT Kharagpur: Pros
- Massive and surreal campus
- Less academic burden
- Good faculty pool with experienced professors that are easier approachable.
- Companies like Airbus, GE, Honeywell, Altair, Rolls Royce, etc come for placements in the core sector.
- Some of the students go for higher studies in foreign universities like Purdue, Texas A&M, University of Texas, Austin, etc
- IIT KGP offers the Boeing Project wherein a team of 5 fabricates all parts of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). On clearing the selection procedure, you will also be offered a scholarship of about 10k per month for an entire year.
- I am not gonna mention any of the institutional activities (clubs, societies, fests etc.)because I reckon the scenario will be pretty much the same in all the aforementioned colleges.
IIT Kharagpur: Cons
- It’s not easily accessible to students from Western and Southern States.
- Kharagpur is a town and lacks many amenities apart from its large railway station.
- Mess food is not good at all
- The huge campus delays the time taken to reach the academic area.
- The core companies only select the best students and a major portion of the batch has to go for non-core placements.
- Aerospace Engineering in India has very few job prospects though we expect the scenario to improve a bit
- You can also apply for off-campus placements at DRDO or ISRO.
Judging a branch solely on the basis of placements is misleading. Yet, most students end up with decent jobs. The best part is that the course curriculum of aerospace engineering is intriguing and keeps you hooked.
