I got CSE in VIT Vellore and will get mechanical engineering in NIT Calicut. Which one should I choose?

SR
Suchit Raghuwanshi Posted On : August 27th, 2021
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (2024)

NIT Calicut stands among the top NITs where you will get a lot of exposure to extracurricular activities. As it’s a government college, the fees will be relatively low as compared to private universities like VIT Vellore.

On the other hand, VIT Vellore isn’t that great institute plus being a private institute the fees is quite high for most middle-class students. If you choose Mechanical here then you can go for two different paths.

  • The first path is to go for mechanical core, in which you will get ample research opportunities every now and then. However, the placement scenario will not be that great and you might get some PSUs as campus recruiters for mechanical jobs.
  • The second path is to go for IT Jobs regardless of your mechanical branch.
  • For this, you need to start doing regular coding and relevant skills to compete during the placement rounds.
  • Most of the students are placed by mass recruiters, Although many reputed companies hire but very few students get placed by them.
Categories Mechanical at NIT Calicut CSE at VIT Vellore
Course Fee 5.48 lakhs 7.83 lakhs
Highest CTC 20 LPA 20 LPA
Average CTC 9 LPA 6-8 LPA
Recruiting Companies L&T, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Tata Motors, etc. Flipkart, Oracle, HP, Dell, etc.

At last, it all depends on your interest and caliber to do well on various career paths. However, if you are inclined towards CSE only then VIT is quite a good option because placements are pretty good there for CSE. Some of the major recruiters include PayPal, Microsoft, Amazon, Morgan Stanley, etc.

RG
Rohan Gupta Posted On : January 10th, 2022
GBO from Shri Ram College of Commerce (2018)

According to the students of SRCC, the GBO is a really underrated and underappreciated course, but has a potential to be considered one of the top management courses in India. The course started with an inclination towards international management. There are few benefits to the course.

  • SRCC has a brand value. It is one of the best commerce colleges in the country.
  • The Faculty members are well experienced.
  • Every faculty associated with GBO has excelled in his or her field.
  • Lectures on Communication and International trade also take place.
  • The Principal takes classes on Financial Management.
  • Taking a Management course is an investment which would give a proper return in the future.
  • With a fee of 80,000 per semester and students getting a salary package of 9.5 lakhs is a decent offer.

GBO, therefore will for sure provide a platform to start off your career but it depends on how you modify yourself and enhance your skills to get maximum benefits.
