Which college is better for a BCom honors: Daulat Ram or Gargi?

TM
Tripti Mishra Posted On : February 1st, 2022
BSc.(Hons) Chemistry from Daulat Ram College, Delhi University (2018)

Both these colleges are good options for pursuing a BCom honors. The quality of academics offered at these colleges is decent. However, being situated at the North campus, Daulat Ram has an edge over Gargi College. The faculty base is great at DRC. You will get decent exposure along with the advantages of being on the north campus.

Is IIM Calcutta an "IIM Ahmedabad" rejected college?

AP
Abhilekh Paul Posted On : November 22nd, 2022
Studies at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (Expected 2023)

I think comparing both IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta is doing injustice to these colleges. Both the IIMs are excellent at their own level.

If you consider the rankings then IIM Ahmedabad tips the list and IIM Calcutta comes next. But do rankings really matter that much? It might be possible that a certain college is on top of the list but inconvenient for you and a certain college is second in the list and is best suited for you.

I have seen friends who have rejected offers from IIM Ahmedabad and went for IIM Calcutta because it suited their needs better.

Some special features of IIM Calcutta that IIM Ahmedabad does not have are:

  • A finance lab with a Bloomberg terminal

  • Top notch finance faculty

  • CEMS-MiM programme (Masters in Management programme ranked 7th in the world)

So yes IIM Ahmedabad is the best IIM but IIM Calcutta is also not an ordinary one. Choose the one that suits your needs best rather than which ranks the most.

What is the difference between PGDM full time and PGDM Finance at IMT Ghaziabad?

SA
Sakshi Ahuja Posted On : April 12th, 2021
PGDM Full Time, graduated in 2019

An acquaintance of mine completed his PGDM from IMT Ghaziabad so hopefully, he would be able to answer your question accurately.

  • In the case of PGDM full-time, you will be capable of choosing your own area of specialization, be it marketing, finance, or HR at the end of the first year.
  • In the case of PGDM finance, your area has already has been chosen for you and will not be able to change it.
  • Irrespective of the specializations, the first year is common for each and every student. PGDM students can choose their desired area of specialization at the end of the first year.

The college management may ask full-time students to choose their specialization area before their placements for summer internships which are usually 3-4 months of joining even though technically you can choose your major by the end of the first year. My acquaintance had to choose his major before his summer internship placements.

If you choose PGDM Full time, then you will be able to choose your specialization from:

  • Marketing
  • Finance
  • Information Management and Analytics
  • Operations Management
  • Human Resources
  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship

If you go for PGDM finance, you will have to learn the electives and core subjects of finance in your second year.

How is distance education at Madras University? Are the classes regular and worthwhile?

KR
Karthik Roy Posted On : November 30th, 2021
M.Sc Information Technology, University of Madras, Institute of Distance Education (2017)

The distance education at Madras University is a mixture of good and bad. Here’s mentioning some of them which will give you a basic idea.

  • The syllabus followed is not updated.
  • There are many printing mistakes in the reading materials, which are not corrected.
  • The helpline numbers provided are of no use.
  • If you face a problem with the university, visit it directly as a phone call or letter will most probably not get addressed on time.
  • You have to collect the reading materials directly from the institute as continuous phone calls will be of no help.
  • The fees are quite low.
  • They have a better reputation than most private colleges offering distance education.
  • Strict rules are followed during exams.
  • The certificate you receive is valid.
  • If you work hard on your own, attending regular classes won't be necessary.
  • Here evaluations are done properly.

Recently, IDE University of Madras has revised their books. You can download the course material by entering your roll number, from their website

Which is the best branch in VSSUT, Burla, Odisha?

NP
Neeraj Patil Posted On : April 28th, 2026

for VSSUT Burla branch ranking from best to decent: CSE > IT > ETC > EEE > Mechanical > Chemical/Civil/Metallurgy

CSE and IT obvious picks for placements — TCS, Infosys, Amazon visit campus. highest package was Rs.47 LPA from Amazon SDE (ETC branch, 2023!). but here's what most people miss — ETC (Electronics & Telecom) is massively underrated at VSSUT. strong faculty, solid GATE scores come out of ETC, and both core + IT company placements are possible.

  • placement-focused career: CSE > IT > ETC
  • GATE / higher studies: EEE and ETC are excellent picks
  • core jobs (PSU, manufacturing): Mechanical and Electrical fine but harder to crack

one thing to keep in mind — VSSUT is remote (Burla, near Hirakud Dam, Sambalpur). no big city nearby. hostel is decent but basic. mess food gets complaints. median package is Rs.6.38 LPA — for an Odisha state govt college the value is genuinely great, fees are super affordable. best pick in Odisha after NITs easily.

Is an MBA from XLRI worth it?

RD
Ritu Dixit Posted On : November 4th, 2022
Business Management from Xavier School of Management

There are various parameters through which it can be measured whether XLRI is worth it or not.

  • Money: You will be able to appreciate it more if you consider network and learning a part of it. About 200 students cannot afford the fee and must take out a loan to pay it to find it well worth it.

  • Time: There is also an opportunity cost involved. It's worthwhile if you believe that peer learning and classroom learning are a good use of time.

  • Effort: The true worth of your efforts becomes clear only after you see the results. Every year in XL, over 500 people recognize that value and trust their experience, and another group of students embarks on the same journey to discover their own.

  • Sacrifice: At various ages, people make various sacrifices in order to pursue their XLRI dream. Some postpone a wedding, some drop out of their campus placement, and some resign from a job they're not sure about. This has less to do with XLRI and more to do with the decision to pursue management.

You can't go wrong with XLRI if you believe a Management course will make a significant positive difference in your life.

How is the college life at Mount Carmel College Bangalore?

MP
Madhumanti Prasad Posted On : October 8th, 2021
Studied Psychology, Literature and Journalism at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore (2015)

One of my friends studied at Mount Carmel College Bangalore. According to her, the college life at Mount Carmel College Bangalore is pretty awesome. But it could also depend on the department you belong to.

  • One of the best departments at Mounts is the Psychology department.
  • The faculties at the Psychology department are wise, excellent, incredibly fun, and probably become best friends by the end of graduation.
  • The faculties are very encouraging of sports and all other extra-curricular activities.
  • They also have a bunch of exciting credit and certificate courses to choose from. There are baking, aerobics, human rights, life skills, etc.
  • The college is also famous for its fashion team.

You would not regret your decision of taking admissions here. The seniors are very helpful and the college staff is also friendly.

Various cultural events take place in the college. It is an all-girls college, thus the girls feel very comfortable on the campus. There is a lot to learn here, so go for it without any hesitation.

How is production engineering at NIT Agartala?

MS
Muktesh Shukla Posted On : September 18th, 2023
Lives in Agartala

My uncle is an alumnus of NIT Agartala Production Engineering and never once regretted choosing the branch. While most of the students were after branches like Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, etc.

He chose the least preferred, Production Engineering. He claimed that if you want to go for higher studies or secure jobs through GATE then the branch doesn’t really matter. Moreover, most campus jobs are from IT companies so the branch does not matter but your skills do. If you have already chosen Production Engineering, then wait patiently because the results will be great.

From my uncle's batch, many students moved on to pursue successful careers. A few of them have been listed below

  • Lakshmi Soren joined NTPC on campus
  • Dipankar Narah joined BHEL through GATE
  • Prasenjit Chanda joined Tata Steel after post-graduating from IIT Roorkee
  • Rashmi Dhar joined Tata Auto Comp System on Campus
  • Ratul Bhaduri and Kashyap joined Tata Motors

Additionally, many others joined IT industries like Virtusa, Polaris, Capgemini, and Cognizant while some joined as professors in different universities after pursuing Mtech or PhD from good universities.

So the conclusion is, that there are a plethora of opportunities and options you are exposed to even in the Production Engineering branch of NIT Agartala.
