What is it like to pursue MS/PHD in Biomedical Engineering from the Dept of Applied Mechanics at IIT Madras?

AG
Aditi Goswami Posted On : March 30th, 2023
studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2018)

My brother shared his experience of pursuing an MS in Biomedical Engineering (BME) at the Dept of Applied Mechanics (App Mech). BME is a multidisciplinary branch and covers a number of fields. The BME department has 8 professors in different fields of Biomedical Engineering namely

  1. Prof. Arun K Thittai - Biomedical Ultrasound Lab
  2. Prof. M. Manivannan- Touch Lab
  3. Prof. Ramakrishnan S - Non-Invasive Imaging and Diagnostics Lab
  4. Prof. Ramasubba Reddy M - Biomedical Instrumentation and Signal Processing Lab.
  5. Prof. Raghavendra Sai VV - Bio Sensors Lab
  6. Prof. Saumendra K Bajpai- Cell Mechanics Lab
  7. Prof. Sujatha N - Biophotonics Lab
  8. Prof. Varadhan S K M- Neuromechanics Lab

My brother worked in Biomedical Ultrasound Lab under the guidance of Prof. Arun K Thittai and was fortunate enough to have graduated with two conference abstracts and two journal publications in reputed journals of the Biomedical Ultrasound Imaging field. He had the absolute delight of having received his degree within 2 years which is a rare case.

From his batchmate's experience, even the other professors were approachable and humble, always ready to guide him in every possible way. It’s the professors’ continuous nudging that enabled students to achieve their research goals.

If you are concerned about the job prospects then rest assured as most of his batchmates landed good jobs in top R& D companies of India. So, go for this program without much thinking and pursue your passion in the same.

What is the selection procedure for M.Tech students at IIT BHU?

SB
Shivani Bose Posted On : August 14th, 2020
M.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2016)

IIT BHU shortlisted students for M.Tech admission on the basis of score in GATE and only those students who apply for the counselling process at COAP portal are considered for admission. IIT BHU also conducts tests/interviews for the shortlisted students. If you are shortlisted, the institute will give you a date. The students will need to visit the institute for a written exam and personal interview. The written exam and interview will be conducted separately for each specialization. There are a few specializations for which IIT BHU offers direct admission but mostly students go through a test or interview.

The final selection is based upon 70% weightage of GATE performance and 30% weightage is given to the candidate’s performance in an interview/test as per MHRD guidelines.

One can check their final results on COAP to confirm your admission in IIT BHU or not. If you get the admission offer in COAP you need to confirm and lock your seat in the institute. The admission process at IIT BHU is done through online mode.

How is the industrial power and automation for an M.Tech at NIT Calicut?

DS
Devesh Saraf Posted On : August 21st, 2023
Studied at NIT Calicut

NIT Calicut Industrial Power and Automation branch is a perfect mix of Electrical Engineering and Instrumentation/Automation. It comprises important elements of both fields and is a great choice for students interested in the field.

  • However, if your primary goal is to get placed , then you have come to the wrong place. Most companies visit NIT Calicut to recruit BTech students and they are given preference to MTech students. A few exceptional cases get placed in huge firms though.
  • The faculty pool is very small and the most highly regarded professor of the branch is Dr Ashok S.
  • The branch has excellent lab facilities and is therefore a great choice for research enthusiasts. The IPA labs are highly advanced labs with modern equipment. The labs have PLC, SCADA, DCS, VFD, BLDC setup, and DSP setups too.

Overall the IPA course at NIT Calicut is a great choice if you are interested in the field and want to pursue a career in research.

Shweta Das Posted On : March 30th, 2023
Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2019)

There are 2 major ways to get admission in Building Technology and Construction Management at IIT Madras.

GATE: Under this, you are expected to score high in GATE, something around 99+.

Sponsored Candidate: This is further divided into freshers and experienced candidates.

    • Freshers: A program by L&T called Build India Scholarship shortlists Civil and Electrical students based on their GATE scores. These candidates are required to have an excellent academic background and have to appear for an aptitude test and finally for an interview before getting selected. L&T has collaborated with IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, NIT Trichy, and NIT Surathkal. Around 60 freshers are selected from all over the country under this program.
  • Experienced: Experienced candidates are selected by programs under L&T, Brigade group, and URC. L&T selected 60 experienced candidates from their own companies who have 2 or more years. They need to go through regular screening of aptitude tests and interviews to get selected. The usual experience required is 2-3 years.

Curriculum: The curriculum is well structured with the right combination of Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers and Architects. How is M.Tech in Pondicherry university?

PS
Piya Sharma Posted On : September 28th, 2021
M.Tech Green Energy Technology,Pondicherry University (2017)

M.Tech, as a degree, is a very good choice at Pondicherry University. However, it also depends upon the department you are choosing. Some of the programs such as Nano Science, Data Science, Computer Science, and Architecture are quite great at the institute.

In many cases, students of the university often claim that the placement percentage, unlike other institutes, is lower than usual. Some also say that the peer group at the institute is not that good.

Contrary to what they say, it is not quite true. One of my friends is a recent alumnus of Pondicherry University and is now settled in a top firm. So, if you have the required skills, you can easily get job offers.

There are many students engaged in government and privately funded projects. For academics, Pondicherry University is quite good. However, you will have to look for jobs on your own.
