The virtual lab at IIT Guwahati is an innovative experience designed to provide remote access to various laboratory experiments in engineering and science. It offers simulations allowing students to understand complex lab procedures. The institute has 5 virtual labs - Virtual Mass Transfer Lab, Virtual English and Communication Lab, Digital Electronics Lab-II, Digital Anthropology Lab and Creative Design, Prototyping and Experiential Lab. 

I have found the Virtual Labs at IIT Guwahati to be an excellent tool for augmenting my education as a student. These labs give us the freedom to access lab materials whenever and whenever we want, enabling us to conduct experiments and simulations online. A wide range of topics are covered by the lifelike and immersive simulations, which aid in bridging the knowledge gap between theory and real-world application.

The real-time feedback and step-by-step instructions are very useful for reiterating theoretical concepts. Furthermore, the platform makes it simple to communicate results with teachers and students by promoting collaborative learning. The evaluation tools make it easier to monitor development and identify areas that need improvement.

As a student of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology at IIT Guwahati, I have a quality education and a dynamic research environment here. Established in November 2002, the department has quickly grown to become a leader in the field of biotechnology and biosciences in North East India. There are 36 faculty members with a variety of specialities, students receive a rich and multifaceted learning experience. 

The department infrastructure and research facilities are impressive and are constantly being upgraded to meet both teaching and research needs. Key research areas include biochemical engineering, enzyme and microbial technology, tissue engineering, plant biotechnology, nanobiotechnology, computational biology, cancer biology, infectious diseases and proteomics.

The department also focuses on meeting the needs of the biotechnology industry by preparing students to work in the industry after graduation. This hands-on approach to teaching and research is well-suited to current and future industry needs. Overall, the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at IITG is a great place for aspiring scientists and engineers, providing a supportive and innovative environment.

IIT Roorkee Saharanpur campus was established in 2001. The School of Paper Technology was established by the Indian Government in 1964. It merged with the University of Roorkee in 1978 and was later renamed as IIT Roorkee, Saharanpur campus. 

Currently, it offers MTech and PhD programs in process and polymer, applied science and paper technology. The campus is well-equipped with modern facilities and laboratories fostering a robust academic environment. The faculties are distinguished scholars dedicated to providing quality education to students. 

The hostel building is new with all the amenities like wifi and security. There is also a mess and canteen facilities serving clean and hygienic food. There is also a fully functioning hospital on the campus and an Apollo pharmacy that is open 24 hours. There is also a sports ground for interested students. The campus has seen a total of 12,911 students, 600 faculty members and more than 400 staff members since its inception. The campus has also granted more than 250+ patents. 

The current director of IIT Roorkee is Prof. Kamal Kishor Pant. He became the director of IIT Roorkee on October 12, 2022. His fields of interest include catalysis and reaction engineering, with expertise in coal-to-methanol conversion, e-waste and plastic management. He is a recognised scientist with Stanford University identifying him as the top 2% scientist in his field. 

He is a PhD holder in chemical engineering. He previously was Chair Professor of Petrotech Chair and Federation of Indian Petroleum Industries (FIPI), Chairman of GATE and JAM and Chairman, Library, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and Dean of Faculty at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. GYTI (twice), CHEMCON, Herdilia Award and Dr A V Rama Rao are some of the honours that Prof. Kamal Kishor Pant has received over the years. 

The Department of Architecture and Planning at IIT Roorkee is known for its quality education and offers courses like BArch, MArch and PhD. The salient features of the department are as follows. 

•  It was the first department to offer the master’s MArch course in India in 1969-70 and later MURP in 1973-74.
• The department boasts state-of-the-art facilities like a climatology lab, computer lab, computerised design studios and more.

The virtual labs at IIT Roorkee aim to provide an enhanced learning experience by remotely accessing laboratory experiments. This excludes the need for a physical lab infrastructure and students can perform practicals in a simulated environment. Electronics, CSE, Mechanical, Chemical, Biotechnology, Physical and Chemical Sciences are some broad areas of virtual labs. The virtual lab features are as follows. 

• It provides remote access to labs in various disciplines of Science and Engineering.
• These Virtual Labs help students at the undergraduate, and post-graduate levels as well as research scholars.
• These labs help in learning basic and advanced concepts through remote experimentation.
• The labs provide various tools for learning, including additional web resources, video lectures, animated demonstrations and self-evaluation.
• It helps to share costly equipment and resources, which are otherwise available to a limited number of users due to time and distance constraints.
• Currently, there are 6 virtual labs at IIT Roorkee - Electrical Machines Lab, Surveying Lab, Biomedical Instrumentation Lab, Bio-Medical Signal and Image Processing Lab, Digital Electronics Lab - I and Analog Electronics Lab. 

IIT Roorkee was established in 1847 and was known as the College of Civil Engineering. It was founded by James Thomason who was the then Lieutenant-Governor of the North-Western Provinces. The main focus of the college was to train civil engineers involved in the construction of the Ganges Canal. It was changed to the University of Roorkee over the years and became the first engineering university of independent India on November 25, 1949. 

The Indian Government gave the university IIT status on September 21, 2001, making it the seventh IIT in the country. Since its inception, IIT Roorkee has seen major academic programs, research facilities and infrastructure. It now has 21 academic departments offering 12 UG courses, 48 PG courses and 3 dual degree programs in various disciplines.

Cognizance is the annual technical fest at IIT Roorkee. It is the culmination of the finest technical minds of the country showcasing their skills and ideas. It features a wide array of events and exhibitions. As per my experience, I would say yes, the cognizance is worth attending once. Some of the features of the tech fest are listed below. 

• It is a place that helps us to show our talents in our respective fields. 
• The major categories that are included in this fest are Robotics, Sky High, Algo Arena, Business and Finance, Cogitation Summit, Department-based Research Paper Presentation, Off the Cuff, and Gaming. 
• The fest has many events like technical workshops, talks, competitions and exhibitions. 
• Some activities that are done in the fest are case studies, and business and finance events.
• It also adds value to society. Some of the social work done under Cognizance are SAVE (Sustaining And Valuing Environment), FIFA (Food Initiative For All), CARES (Covid Awareness and Relief Enactment Scheme) and UTSE (Uttarakhand Talent Search Examination).
• The 2024 theme for Cognizance is Quantistico Scientia where participants were exposed to the latest technologies through an adventure-like concept. It ran from March, 15 to March 17, 2024. 

The computer science and engineering (CSE) courses at IIT Madras are highly regarded as some of the best courses at IIT Madras. The BTech course is renowned for its rigorous curriculum and practical approach. Equal emphasis is given to practical aspects of theory. The strong industry collaboration results in excellent internship and placement opportunities. 

Other than CSE, electrical engineering (with all the sub-branches), mechanical engineering and civil engineering are other courses at IIT Madras that can be considered because of their relevant curriculum and placements.

• Web-enabled MTech course: It is designed for working professionals and can be completed according to their pace. They can access classes in the evenings after completing their work. 
• Diploma course: IIT Madras offers diploma courses in programming and data science through the Centre for Continuous Education (CCE). These programs are flexible and students can learn at their own pace.
