What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at NIT Agartala?

SG

The first year of college life for an engineering student is when your dream is in the initial stages. It's the year when you enjoy maximum free time and freedom and are not burdened with the pressure of academics, internships, or placements. However, some waste this time and regret it later. So you need to maintain a healthy balance between enjoying your college life as well as excelling in academics. Here are some tips that will help you maintain this balance

  • Rather than following someone else's footsteps, it's best to focus on your own passions and goals. Prepare your own path and follow it religiously
  • Socialize and make good friends. Your friends dont have to be your batch mates, some find good friends among their seniors too. Make friends you can not only hang out with but also get some motivation and support from during exams
  • Dont fall for the trap ‘Grades Dont Matter’ because no matter how intelligent a person claims it, the truth is your CGPA does matter. Maintain a good CGPA round 8.5-9CGPA
  • Maintain a good rapport with the faculty and try to be in their good books. The truth is no matter how good your CGPA is, if your image isn't good, you will get good grades.
  • Either become a part of some academic clubs or study on your own through online courses (like Coursera). This will strengthen your basic and increase your chances of getting internships or projects.
  • The first year will give you a lot of free time so indulge in one of the sports. You need a healthy body for a healthy mind.

Enjoy the first year at NIT Agartala to the fullest but not at the expense of ruining your academics.

Is it worth taking admission in XIMB for global mba?

SY
Sikha Yadav Posted On : July 9th, 2021
Studied at Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (2019)

First of all, no college or university can guarantee your placements. There is a placement cell in the college that takes care of placements, but Global MBA students cannot get decent placements by depending on the placement team.

Any college can only provide you with a degree and tag. To get a decent job you have to search on your own. Investing so much in Global MBA is not a good idea. Also, ROI is an important factor, which is why it is suggested that you do not invest in it.

Categories XIMB for Global MBA
Course Fee 20.30 lakh
Course Duration 2 years
Highest CTC 26 LPA
Average CTC 15 LPA
Recruiting Companies Nestle, PwC, Crisil, CitiBank, etc.

It is not worth taking admission to Xavier Institute of Management (XIMB) for a global MBA. It will only waste your money.

Your graduation score is a bit low but it depends on your institute too. If you are from a top college, then this score will be considered pretty good. Moreover, past academics are not the only deciding factor when it comes to admission to IIMs. You do have decent changes if selection viewing your overall profile.

As for the CAT Score, don’t set a fixed target and just aim for as high as you can. The cutoffs keep changing depending on various factors so what should remain constant are your efforts. Additionally, preparing for the interview is very crucial because it determines your chances of admission.

What is the selection procedure of IIM Lucknow?

AR
Ayush Raj Posted On : January 16th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Lucknow

The procedure is divided into three stages:

  • WAT: If you are selected for WAT based on your profile and CAT score, you will likely be contacted to proceed with the process in the city of your choice. The process begins on the scheduled day with a WAT in which you are given 10 minutes to write on a given topic. The subject matter could be abstract, current affairs-related, or, in rare cases, technical.
  • GD: After submitting your WAT sheets, you will be asked to participate in a GD on the same topic.
  • PI: Following the GD, the same panel will conduct one-on-one interviews with the candidates. The majority of the questions are based on the information you would have provided in your profile on the application, including your educational background, ECA, and work history (if any).

You should also be ready to respond to inquiries about current events and perhaps your group discussion (GD) if there was a particularly important point to be made.

How's NIT Agartala for the mechanical branch?

PC
Pradeep Chowdhuri Posted On : September 18th, 2023
Studied at NIT Agartala

Here is a detailed review of the NIT Agartala Mechanical branch in the form of pros and cons:

Pros

  1. The professors are very approachable and assist you academically.
  2. The pedagogy adopted by professors is excellent and they ensure students understand the concepts through ppts, animations, and videos.
  3. Some of the faculties are very knowledgeable in their respective field of interest.
  4. NIT Agartala Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the most prestigious and well-known branches in the whole of North-East India.
  5. The placement scenario is decent and around 80% of placement scenario has been recorded recently.

Cons

  • The lab facilities are outdated and most of the equipment is obsolete. The equipment of Fluid Machines Lab hasn’t been working for a long time now.
  • There is not even a single program to learn designing software like CATIA, Solidworks, AutoCAD, or other software that form a crucial part of the Mechanical Branch.
  • The department does not have provisions for coaching for GATE, CAT, GRE, or other competitive exams.
  • Professors lay more emphasis on getting good grades and packages rather than learning and gaining knowledge. No importance is given to research work or exploring new insights into technology and Entrepreneurship.
  • Some of the faculties are underqualified and have no teaching or communication skills at all.

Hope this helps you make a fine decision!

Why do people flock to IIM Lucknow and leave SPJIMR and FMS, when IIML teaches management like engineering whereas SPJIMR and FMS have a more conducive environment to actually learn? They also get the

GMP International Management, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (2018)

By ‘teaches Management like Engineering’ I assume what you mean is Management studies at IIM Lucknow are more strict, mundane, and repetitive. In this regard, I refuse to accept your claim as the reality is far from this.

People graduating from these institutes are youngsters with an age group of 20-25 so there is very little impact of the institutes' pedagogy on the learner’s ability to learn. These candidates are likely to be more serious regarding their growth and even sacrifice the fun of a typical B School life just to reach new heights. Anyone with such a mindset is likely to fare well anywhere irrespective of the choice of Institute.

I am going to specifically pinpoint the scenario at FMS because there is a general conception that FMS has a relatively chilled ambiance. The truth is I have seen many students working tremendously hard in their 2 years. They explore much more than academics and take part in many extracurricular activities because they know it’s their last opportunity before they enter the corporate world. The attendance rules although stricter than that at IIM Lucknow are no direct indication of the general discipline and the rigor of the curriculum. Every institute has its own tailored learning environment and it’s up to the students to make the most out of it.

People just ‘flock’ to a particular B School because of the sheep mentality. Rather their decisions are based on continuous analysis of various factors like tags, peer group, intended specialization, placement opportunities, personal goals.

Should I take admission in IIM Shillong this year or prepare again next year?

AJ
Arshit Jain Posted On : January 27th, 2023
Indian Institute of Management Nagpur

If you want to target ABC L, having a 70% BE may be a concern. However, it's important to consider your risk appetite and the rationale behind pursuing an MBA. Some people may choose to wait and apply to higher-ranked IIMs, while others may decide to take the risk and apply to a school like IIM Shillong. It's also worth considering that getting into a college with better rankings can be a great feeling, but you should also weigh the risk and return of your decision.

It might be helpful to consider the pros and cons of different options and try to get a bigger picture of your goals before making a decision. Keep in mind that some people with lower GMAT scores or undergraduate grades have been able to get into top schools like Kellogg's and Michigan, while others have been successful in technical fields without pursuing an MBA. Ultimately, it's important to consider your individual circumstances and make a decision that is right for you.

IIM Shillong has not defined the weightage for academics for 2022 MBA admissions. An expected set of scores, for students from different categories, is as follows:
