I got CSE in VIT Vellore and will get mechanical engineering in NIT Calicut. Which one should I choose?
NIT Calicut stands among the top NITs where you will get a lot of exposure to extracurricular activities. As it’s a government college, the fees will be relatively low as compared to private universities like VIT Vellore.
On the other hand, VIT Vellore isn’t that great institute plus being a private institute the fees is quite high for most middle-class students. If you choose Mechanical here then you can go for two different paths.
- The first path is to go for mechanical core, in which you will get ample research opportunities every now and then. However, the placement scenario will not be that great and you might get some PSUs as campus recruiters for mechanical jobs.
- The second path is to go for IT Jobs regardless of your mechanical branch.
- For this, you need to start doing regular coding and relevant skills to compete during the placement rounds.
- Most of the students are placed by mass recruiters, Although many reputed companies hire but very few students get placed by them.

At last, it all depends on your interest and caliber to do well on various career paths. However, if you are inclined towards CSE only then VIT is quite a good option because placements are pretty good there for CSE. What is the difference between BE and B.Tech?
The fundamental difference between BE and BTech is the way these courses are delivered. Contrary to the popular misconception, BE isn’t just theory oriented. - If you are looking for an elite peer pool with the most geniuses minds, prefer IIT Bombay to IIIT Hyderabad as it comprises JEE toppers, Olympiad Toppers, etc
- If you are looking for a better coding culture then IIIT Hyderabad it is. It has a larger number of students involved in GSoC, Competitive Programming, Open Source, etc
- If you want a better campus experience as a whole go for IIT Bombay. Its campus has a lake, a hill, a jungle, Mumbai City Skyline view, thus the quality of life is better here.
- Both the institutes have equally good placements for the average students while IIT Bombay has better opportunities for toppers.
- If you value brand name and tag then IIT Bombay is the obvious choice.
- If you are a research enthusiast then you will get better opportunities at IIT Bombay because of better professors and alumni network. Moreover, the IIT tag gives you an edge in foreign higher studies.

Should I study CSE at BITS Pilani or CSE at IIT (BHU)?
IIT BHU and BITS Pilani are both highly respected engineering colleges in India. Here’s why IIT BHU is a better option out of the two:
- Brand Value: The "IIT" name is prestigious and globally recognized. This reputation can be very helpful when applying for jobs or higher studies abroad.
- Affordable Fees: As a government institution, IIT BHU has much lower fees compared to BITS Pilani, which is a private institution. This makes IIT BHU more affordable for students.

According to me, opting for IIT BHU for CSE is a better choice as compared to BITS Pilani.
- IIT BHU is well-recognized nationwide for offering excellent academic standards and research opportunities that help students grow careers.
- IIT BHU offers four four-year BTech programs for CSE, and the average fee for the first year is around INR 2.27 LPA.
- IIT BHU offers one of the best placements to the students amongst the IITs.
- In 2023 474 offers and 305 PPOs were made.
- The domestic highest package is INR 1.68 CPA and the international highest package is INR 77 LPA.
How much is the fees of Thapar University for a 4 years BTech programme, including all hostel fees, etc.?
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), now known as Thapar University charges different fees for different courses. The 4-year B.Tech Fees range between INR 1,95,300 and INR 2,38,600 Per Semester depending on the specialization and other factors. The one-year fee is 4.61 Lakhs. Overall ABES EC is an average engineering college at best. Here are some of the pros and cons of joining the institutes.

- It has great infrastructural facilities. There is centralized AC for all blocks in the whole college. The lush green campus will soothe your eyes.
- The hostel accommodation is well furnished and maintained regularly.
- There are many food courts that sell good quality food at reasonable prices.
- The campus has a big stadium that conducts different cricket matches.
- Some of the faculty members are cooperative and student-friendly.
- The ABES EC placement scenario is decent. The average CTC offered to students is around INR 6 LPA.
- There are many clubs like Samvaad Theatre Group, Technovation, etc. in which you can take part.
Cons:
- ABES EC has a strict 75% attendance rule. Failing to maintain this can lead to detention.
- The institute calls parents if they don’t attend your class.
- The hostel curfew timing for girls is strict. You need to be inside the hostel premises at 6 pm during winter and 6:30 pm during summer.

Getting CSE at Thapar University as well as Jaypee Noida (JIIT) , which college should I choose?
Had you asked this question 4-5 years ago, the common answer would have been Thapar University. However, things have changed a lot in the last few years. Here are some reasons why I would suggest you to go for JIIT Noida for your B.Tech CSE-
- The crowd quality at Thapar University has gone down drastically. The reasons behind this are a 50% quota for Punjab students and the enormous increase in the number of seats. Both these actions have resulted in very low cut offs. The cutoff rank for Punjab students in JEE Mains is 1.5 Lakh+ for CSE department. The closing rank of JIIT Noida for the same is around 51 K+. Thus, the crowd is better in JIIT Noida as compared to Thapar.
- The batch size at Thapar University is much bigger than JIIT N. Thapar University has a batch size of 1200+ students for Computers while JIIT Noida has a batch size of only 250+ students. A smaller batch size means more placement opportunities and better attention towards the learning of each student.
- Location-wise, NCR offers more opportunities than Patiala. You will get numerous opportunities in NCR like trade shows, conferences, training, better placements, etc. Gurgaon and Noida are the new IT Hubs, second only to Bangalore and at par with Hyderabad and Pune. As a CSE student, you should prefer Noida over Patiala.
- Though Thapar University has a bigger campus of 250 acres, your life will mostly revolve around your classrooms, nearby areas and your hostel. Thus, the smaller campus of JIIT N should not be that big an obstacle.
- The average package for B.Tech CSE is around INR 13.28 LPA at JIIT Noida, which is better than Thapar University in which the average package for the UG stream stands at around INR 10.97 LPA. Studying at JIIT Noida is also around 30-40% cheaper than Thapar.
Thus, at present, CSE from JIIT Noida is a much better choice.
