SG

MBA Finance, Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, New Delhi (2018)

One of my friends applied for PGDM Finance at LBSIM last year and was shortlisted for the interview round. Here are the questions that he had to answer during his interview.

There was a year gap after his graduation, so they asked what he did in that time period. He explained that he was self-employed. After the brief introduction, the following questions were asked.

  • How will you explain balance sheet to students?
  • Tell us something about Gearing ratio.
  • Share your views about direct and indirect expenses.
  • Tell us about Lawrence Curve.
  • Tell us about Debt equity ratio.

To his surprise, he wasn’t asked the general questions like Why MBA? Strength and weakness, etc. Overall his experience was good and he was able to convert the call.

LS

Studied at Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, New Delhi

LBSIM New Delhi is a very good institute, considering the overall academic focus, faculty, and a lot of other positive aspects of the institute. The points below give a brief overview of the institute, along with some of its advantages.

  • The growth in extra-curricular activities at LBSIM is excellent, with all kinds of necessary facilities in-campus. Even, the atmosphere inside the campus is quite chilled out, but not too much.
  • The placement of LBSIM is excellent as evident from its statistics in recent years. It is at par with other top institutes like IMT Ghaziabad, FORE School of Management, TAPMI, GIM, etc.
  • The location of LBSIM is very good too. The campus is easily accessible by Delhi Metro, which is a prime advantage for local students. For students from other places, there are some amazing societies near the campus of LBSIM where students can stay in a peaceful and happening environment.

Overall, there is no such serious negative aspect of LBSIM that may prevent students from taking admission into the institute. It offers excellent management programs and very good job offers to most of its students, and so is a very good option for an MBA.

Which is good college, BIMTECH Greater Noida or LBSIM?

TA

Lives in New Delhi

To give you a better understanding, the following answer is using the three Cs to compare:

  1. Curriculum: If someone has very clear job goals, he or she might want to look into B-schools that offer a specialization in that field. Also, you might want to go to a college with a program that you can change to fit your needs. For example, BIMTECH has a program that is updated every year because the business world is always changing. Students at LBSIM, on the other hand, spend the first few years taking core classes and can also take a foreign language as an elective.
  2. Communication: You can get a good idea of this by looking at how often and how much the school's selection committee interacts with you. At BIMTECH, the admissions office is known for making real connections that start with the application process. If you think of LBSIM, it too has great ways to board, stay, and use other services.
  3. Culture: Getting a sense of the culture at any school is important if you want to decide if the program is a good fit for you. Start your evaluation by figuring out if the attitude is mostly competitive or collaborative. When it comes to a college’s culture, there is no right or wrong. Instead, you should choose the place where you think you will do best.

CAT cut-off for a B-School is a good way to figure out how good it is. The cutoff for LBSIM is around 85+ percentile and the cutoff for BIMTECH is around 75 percentile. It is clear that LBSIM has a much better intake, which makes group learning even better. Also, LBSIM has the best return on investment (ROI) of any school in its field.

Which is better, a PGDM in banking and financial services at IMI, Delhi or a PGDM general in LBSIM, Delhi?

RP
Rajan Patel Posted On : March 3rd, 2023
PGDM Finance, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (2018)

I can speak with certainty that PGDM at LBSIM is a far better option than PGDM in Financial services at IMI Delhi. My brother is a recent pass out from LBSIM and the following highlight of the institute are based on his personal experiences

  • The IIRF ranks LBSIM 25th among private colleges
  • It has a spectacular ROI in terms of placements and fees
  • LBSIM is famous for its student culture
  • You can get an insight into various angles of the industry you will be dealing with in the future
  • You can avail an abundance of opportunities through live projects and get to have a detailed experience in your specialization.
  • The institute prioritizes a practical approach over theoretical knowledge through academic activities outside the classroom
  • Various academic and non-academic clubs make the environment a friendly one
  • The institute boasts of a 100% placement record
  • It has an elaborate alumni network that is spread across top companies like Big Four’s, Arcesium, Marsh & Mclennan, Asian Paints, Crisil
  • LBSIM collaborates with various international universities for its student exchange program. Some of them include Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Northern Illinois University, USA, European Higher School of Economics and Management, Bulgaria etc.
  • A unique feature of the B School is its Bloomberg Terminal which is restricted to the top B Schools like IIM B, IIM C, and FMS only.

All these points clearly state that LBSIM is a very good choice for a PGDM program.

One of my cousins studied at LBSIM. So I can share some facts about it. This might help you get a better idea about the college.

LBSIM offers 2 courses - PGDM General and PGDM Finance. After completing 1 year in PGDM General you can choose a dual specialization from - Finance, Marketing, HR, Operations, and Systems.

After completing 1 year in PGDM Finance you can choose a dual specialization from - Treasury Management, Investment Management, Risk Management, Strategic Accounting & Control.

You will get proper industrial and corporate exposure. Guest lectures are conducted. Being in Delhi and surrounded by Gurgaon and Noida, the college has a locational advantage.

Is life hectic at lbsim Delhi?

SG
Sunidhi Gupta Posted On : September 12th, 2022
Former Student at Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management, New Delhi

The first 3 trimesters of the first year at LBSIM Delhi are the most difficult. You need to complete assignments, group projects, etc. at a rapid pace. The most challenging part is getting accustomed to the hectic schedule.

The pace of course work is comparatively slower in 2nd year. As the focus shifts from academics to placements.

Which is better for finance, Lal Bahadur Shastri or Fore School of Management? Is it worth it to take admission in LBSIM?

SC
Shivangi Chaudhary Posted On : July 22nd, 2021
Studying B.Com from Zakir Hussain College, Delhi University (2019).

If you look at FORE’s prior placement statistics, you'll notice that even before they started this new PGDM in Financial Management, they were a good pick for the financial sector, finance businesses, and overall BFSI.

  • Until a few years ago, LBSIM was an excellent venue for PGDM Finance. However, some of the best faculty members have left LBSIM.
  • When compared to other institutes in its category, LBSIM offers cutting-edge infrastructure and possibly the best finance faculty.
  • It offers a tough curriculum, and recruiters come in with core finance profiles; on top of that, LBSIM has a higher return on investment.
  • FORE is a good school as well, but why pay more for similar opportunities.
Particulars LBSIM FORE
Fees 11.67 lakh 15.98 lakh
Top recruiters Asian Paints, Nestle, Hindustan, Bacardi, TATA Motors, Hero, Whirlpool, HDFC, etc Microsoft, Capgemini, Razorpay, HCL Technologies, LT Foods, Blackstone and Hindware, etc
Placement rate 97% 100%
Average salary package 10.6 LPA 9.2 LPA
Highest salary package 30 LPA 32 LPA

Just remember that it’s all about your career opportunities so think wisely and then make any decision.
