I am Hindu. I want to pursue my postgraduate studies in CMC Vellore. But people say CMC is only for Christians. Is it so? Can a Hindu join?
A Hindu friend of mine completed her MS in General Surgery at CMC Vellore. Initially, everyone dissuaded her from considering CMC Vellore but she was adamant about it and finally got admission. She says she had the best experience of her life despite having experience at several top colleges. She was amazed by the dedication of the medical and non-medical staff.

Your religion does not matter but what matters is if you have done UG, internship, and non-PG residency at CMC and whether you are sponsored. Even some Hindus get sponsored by the local missionary hospital or CMC hospital itself and compete for sponsored seats. So being a Hindu won’t necessarily affect your chances of admission to CMC Vellore.
How much stipend is given to JR of KGMU Lucknow?
The medical colleges paying the highest stipend are AIIMS, KGMU, SGPGI, and RMLIMS. The 7ty pay commission was implemented in August 2019. From the information I gained from various sources, the Gross salary at KGMU is about I NR 106K per month for junior Residents. The inhand salary of a JR at KGMU after deduction of TDS, is 95K given that you are not living in the hostel.
Usually, residents in state colleges receive 40–50K per month, which is very low considering the workload of junior resident doctors. So, compared to that KGMU pays its JRs pretty well.
How is IIT Goa?
IIT Goa is a highly-reputed engineering institute in India, offering IF, PG, and Ph.D. programs in various fields of engineering and technology.

How is DoMS, IIT Madras for an MBA?
If you have other options like older IIMs or private B Schools such as MDI or SP Jain, I would recommend you to go for them instead of DoMS, IIT Madras. I am not saying MBA from DoMS is a bad idea, it’s just that B Schools are best for MBA.
MBA program offered at DoMS IIT Madras has the following pros and cons

- Average salary was recorded at INR 16.66 LPA which is similar to that of many private B Schools

- You get to work with Engineering students on projects or startup incubators thus broadening the experience
Cons
- IIT Madras has a quarter semester for the MBA instead of the usual trimester which sometimes becomes very hectic.
- Being a technical Institute, its MBA program has less value than other courses offered at the Institute
Overall, DoMS offers the best experience and the MBA is a good choice considering the ROI, campus life, and exposure provided by IIT Madras.
Is Christ University, Bangalore or XIME Bangalore better?
Every college has its own set of pros and cons. Both Christ University and XIME are well-known reputed institutions. It depends on the course that you aim to pursue to compare which is better. When it comes to campus life, Christ is the winner. The beautiful green campus with acres of active campus life of the students being involved in multiple extracurricular activities, seminars and workshops is what attracts the students. However, the fee structure of Christ is a bit higher as compared to XIME. Both colleges are known to provide good placement to their students and are visited by top recruiters. However, it again depends on your course of preference. Go through the websites of both colleges and talk to seniors who can guide you with some other queries which you may have.
How do I prepare for English and logical reasoning on the BITSAT??
The preparation of BITSAT includes so many areas, English and Logical reasoning being an important part of it. Like other students applying for BITSAT, my knowledge is also limited to my experience, gathered from others. Mostly our preparation depends on solving previous year’s question papers and watching tutorials. There are a number of books you can follow as well. Analyze your strong area and try solving the answers in a limited time. This will lessen your burden in the examination hall.
- BITSAT will test your English Grammar, Verbal Reasoning, Quiz solving ability, Synonyms & Antonyms, Sentence Formation, idioms & Phrases, etc. so you need to prepare yourself accordingly.
- While solving the previous year’s question papers, analyze in which area you can score more without consuming less time. Prepare yourself accordingly. Doing a SWOT analysis of each paper will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses in each topic.
- For reference, you can go for books like English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning by Disha Publications and Logical Reasoning by author Edgar Thorpe and others. These books will definitely help you understand the basics and prepare you for all questions, related to the same.
- You can also practice and read Latest Editions of Top English Newspapers like Times of India, The Hindu, etc. to prepare yourself for Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning. In case your primary education was from an english medium school, then practicing it will be easier and not at all time consuming.
- Work on your speed of solving questions correctly. Solving at least 5-10 question papers in a limited time will definitely help you score better marks in the exam.
- As far as Logical Reasoning is concerned, nobody can predict this. Practicing ony can help you crack this section successfully. Double your speed and try to solve 2 questions in place of one in a set period of time.
The above tips will definitely help you prepare for english & logical reasoning for BITSAT, but keep in mind that there are other sections as well. So divide your practice time accordingly and dedicate sufficient time to all other sections as well.

When and how to apply for a winter internship at the IIT IISC and IISER?
If you haven’t already worked with a research group or under a professor during your summertime, IISc would be a little difficult for you.
There are a lot of professors and postdoctoral fellows who are enrolled in a subdiscipline at IISc. So any kind of internship will give you a little edge over others to be selected for winter internship.
If you are a scholar at KVPY or INSPIRE or NIUS, you might have better chances but the statement of purpose matters as well. Usually, you will have to send a mail with your CV and the statement of purpose along with a list of courses that you have completed to any of the professors who are related to that sub-discipline. You must also remember to apply early in September and if it is feasible for you, you must decide on a topic, duration, accommodation before October.
IISER - For IISERs, it would be advisable to go for Mohali or Bhopal. The application process is quite similar. September end to October is considered to be the best time to decide on a date and duration.
IITs - a few of them conduct sponsored winter programs but there is no logic in going to an IIT to study theoretical mathematics. You can rather go to Kanpur and Powai and the application procedure for both of them is the same as above.
If you wish to pursue cryptology, cryptanalysis, economical models, number theory, ISI and CMI would be considered better when it comes to exposure and experience. For complex analysis, and astrostatistics, you can go to IMSc, ISI, IISc, and CMI. You can opt for mathematical biology at IISERs and IISc.
How good is the Central University of Haryana?
Central University Of Haryana (CUHAR) is situated in Mahendragarh district. It is one of the youngest universities in the NCR region and Haryana district.
According to the reviews online, students often have doubts regarding the institution, this might be due to its newer establishment and matching up to the other institutions.
You can surely take admission in CUHAR because the quality of education is really good. They have a proper and well-maintained infrastructure. They also have a very cooperative and highly experienced faculty.
Some other facilities include gym, digital library, hostels, food joints and much more.
Students sometimes have a problem with their college ranking in NIRF. But it can be assured that it is building and growing to match the level of its peers.
Atlast, all it can be said is that it is a very good institution who is working its way to be the best version of itself. Thus observing their rapid improvement it can be said that studying here will not be a bad choice.
What bond does a student have to sign to get into AFMC Pune?
AFMC Pune has two types of bond you commit to at admission — and both involve serving in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) as a commissioned officer after your MBBS.
- SSC (Short Service Commission): 7-year obligation after completing MBBS. you can do DNB after 4 years of service, but regular PG is only after completing 7 years
- PC (Permanent Commission): you serve till retirement (~20 years). better career stability, slower track to PG
the penalty if you break the bond or leave early is Rs.69-71 lakh (updated 2025-26 figure — older answers say Rs.28L but that's outdated, the amount keeps going up). this applies even if you quit after just 1 week of joining.
what people don't fully realize before joining — you're not just a medical student at AFMC, you're essentially a cadet and future commissioned officer. discipline is military-level, unmarried policy throughout the course, no marriage allowed during MBBS. the upside is subsidized education, stipend during studies, and a guaranteed job with officer rank. if you value that service track, it's a great deal. if you just want to do regular MBBS and keep career options open — think carefully before signing.
