How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Mechanical Engineering and IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Electrical Engineering?

More than deciding what's better, it's important to choose what resonates with you. IITs have international-level accreditation.

  • B.Tech Electrical students can pursue M.Tech in Computer Science, while the reverse is not usually possible in most universities.
  • All Non-Computer Engineering students study some level of computer concepts.
  • Strictly speaking, Electrical Engineering includes some computer learning, but not the other way around.

So, consider your future plans when making your choice. Good luck and cheers!

You should definitely consider Civil Engineering (CE) at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi! Here are some compelling reasons to help you decide:

  • Academic Reputation of IIT Delhi: IITD is the premier engineering institution in India. Its reputation can open numerous doors, not just in civil engineering but across various fields. The CE department of IITD ranks 39 globally according to the latest QS World University Rankings.
  • Placements: Leading companies from sectors like construction, infrastructure, finance, and consulting actively seek out civil engineering graduates from IITD. The institute offers outstanding internship and job placement opportunities. Additionally, there’s a strong support network for students preparing for Civil Services if that’s a path you wish to pursue.
  • Campus Life: IITD features a vibrant campus life that combines academic rigor with a wide range of extracurricular activities. Should I go for B.Tech Electrical Engineering in IIT Delhi or B.Tech + M.Tech Mechanical Engineering in IIT Kharagpur?

E
EmeraldEntity Posted On : April 20th, 2026

Between IIT Delhi for B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and IIT Kharagpur for B.Tech + M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, the financial aspects tilt slightly in favor of IIT Kharagpur. While IIT Delhi has a stellar reputation and a high placement rate of around 88%, the fees are quite high, making it a heavier burden for middle-class families. IIT Kharagpur, on the other hand, offers a dual degree which could provide better long-term ROI, especially in the mechanical field, without the exorbitant fees associated with IIT Delhi. Scholarships are more accessible at IIT Kharagpur as well, making it a more financially sensible option. If you have a strong inclination towards electrical engineering, IIT Delhi is fantastic, but for a broader scope and better financial viability, IIT Kharagpur is the smarter choice.

How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Mathematics and Computing and IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Manufacturing Science and Engineering?

M

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes advanced mathematics and computer science, attracting major tech and quant firms for placements, with an impressive 93% placement rate and top offers reaching 4 crores. On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Manufacturing Science and Engineering, while also reputable, may not have the same level of quant-driven opportunities and high-stakes internships that IIT Delhi provides. Both colleges have strong faculty and vibrant campus life, but I personally would lean towards IIT Delhi for the superior placement prospects and curriculum if I'm aiming for a career in tech or finance. However, if you're more inclined towards manufacturing and want a broader engineering experience, IIT Kharagpur could be a great fit.

Biotechnology is one of the fastest-growing majors worldwide! If you're really interested in bio, it definitely has a great future, both in India and abroad. More or less, IIT Delhi's brand and branch will suit future prospects best. Even students from lower-tier biotech programs are getting recognized now. You can pursue a PhD in India in biotech—it's a great time to start, especially after the pandemic.

IIT Kanpur's Chemical Engineering is also very good but quite tough to handle. It has a lot of analytical-based curriculum. According to your interest, you can decide! Please share your thoughts on whether my views align with current trends; your comments will encourage me to write more on technical aspects!

Which one should I opt for IIT Delhi B.Tech Electrical Engineering Power and Automation or IIT Kharagpur B.Tech Electrical Engineering

Hi, Electrical Engineering at IIT Delhi focuses more on communication engineering and electromagnetics, while Electrical (Power and Automation) emphasizes electric drives and power engineering. Aside from these four courses, all Electrical Engineering students share the same classes.

The main difference arises during placements, where companies may confuse Electrical with Electronics and Communication and Power and Automation with Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE). However, these two courses are quite similar overall. IIT Delhi's curriculum is designed to offer flexibility, allowing students to pursue a minor in their area of interest.

Good luck!

IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Electrical Engineering offers a prestigious education with a solid reputation, but its high fees can be a burden, especially for middle-class families. The placement opportunities are excellent, with around 88% of students securing jobs, which might provide good ROI in the long run.

On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech in Mining Engineering plus M.Tech in Safety Engineering could be a smarter financial choice since it combines two degrees, potentially increasing job prospects while often having lower fees and better scholarship options for reserved classes. If you're more inclined towards electrical engineering and can handle the financial strain, IIT Delhi is great. However, if you want a more economical route with diverse opportunities, IIT Kharagpur is the way to go.

IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur both offer excellent programs, but they cater to different interests and career paths. IIT Delhi’s B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering focuses heavily on AI/ML, providing a modern curriculum and abundant internship opportunities with top companies, which is great if you're eyeing a future in tech. The campus life is vibrant with friendly faculty and diverse extracurriculars.

On the other hand, IIT Kharagpur’s B.Tech + M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering offers a solid dual degree that could be advantageous for a deeper understanding of engineering principles, though the emphasis on mechanical may not provide the same tech-centric exposure as IIT Delhi. If you're passionate about computer science and want a fast-paced tech career, I’d recommend IIT Delhi; but if you prefer a broader engineering scope and the dual degree advantage, go for IIT Kharagpur.

Should I go for B.Tech Mathematics and Computing in IIT Delhi or B.Tech Instrumentation Engineering in IIT Kharagpur?

E
EtherealEstate Posted On : April 20th, 2026

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing offers a rigorous curriculum that leads to high-paying roles in tech and finance, with internships paying up to 20 lakhs for international offers. The tuition fees are 1,00,000 per semester, but scholarships are available for those with lower family incomes, making it a good investment. In contrast, IIT Kharagpur's B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering has a broader focus, but less emphasis on lucrative placements, and specific data on internships and salaries isn't as strong.

For someone who loves math and is aiming for high ROI in tech or finance, IIT Delhi is the smarter choice, while IIT Kharagpur might suit those interested in a wider engineering scope without the same financial pressure.
