Why does everyone talk about XLRI HR and not BM? Is BM bad at XLRI?

AP
Ashish Patil Posted On : June 17th, 2021
XLRI (Human and Resource Management 2019)

It is not a question about whether or not BM is bad, and HR is good. XLRI is more known for HR because it has stuck with the brand. The brand XLRI primarily had an established legacy in Industrial Relations (IR). Which later converted into HR. XLRI established its reputation as an IR concentrated institution following the Independence of the country.

BM, on the other hand, was inaugurated only afterward alongside older IIMs. This has somehow resulted in leading to the XLRI brand getting generally and mostly associated with HR, and not BM. It’s rare to find any industry or top-tier companies in the country where the top HR personnel is not from XLRI.

Now when talking about BM at XLRI, there is definitely a strong and successful alumni base from BM in the industrial sector. In fact, for further recruitments, alumni of XLRI get placed in McK, BCG, and several more from the BM sector.

Is XLRI global management programme worth the investment?

SP

There are a few things you would have to assume before getting an answer to this question.

  • Primarily, you would assume that your investment mainly includes monetary funds and you are expecting returns in the future.
  • It could also be possible that you are a candidate that belongs to the middle class and may have borrowed a majority of the sum.
  • Lastly, you are probably not trying to take much risk.

If all the above-listed variables are true in your case, my verdict, as a graduate of this college, would be that the XLRI management program could be a little risky for you.

As far as the program is concerned, you will have to look into the information regarding this and see if it definitely interests you.

XLRI Global Management Program

Course Fee

26.00 lakhs

Highest CTC

30 LPA

Average CTC

23 LPA

Median CTC

18 LPA

The program is relatively new and began just five years ago so you can expect that the placements would not be the best yet. A friend of mine struggled quite a lot to get placed even a few months after the program ended.

If you are not ready to take this sort of risk, you should evaluate your parameters before going ahead and taking any decision.

I have 90% in 10th, 93% in 12th, and 60% in graduation. Do I have a chance of getting into XLRI?

AG

XLRI can be achieved by converting the XAT scores. But for that, the score must be higher than the 99.4 percentile. If the conversion is not the priority, then an interview call could be thereby obtaining a higher 98 percentile. So learn the priorities well.

  • XLRI doesn't have high criteria and cut-offs like IIMs have.
  • They don't focus on academics as such.
  • The main thing is that a student should pass and qualify the sectional requirements and should be able to attain the overall percentile.
  • Once attained, the interview process would be started.
  • The results will be based on the performance of the interview. Make your interview count.

There is less weightage of work experience also. The experience doesn't matter that much. But to have the knowledge and experience in one's own domain will lead you to explore the subject more and go into the depths.

XLRI has a strong reputation for Human Resource (HR) management and Industrial Relations (IR) studies. If an individual is specifically interested in HR/IR, then XLRI would be a better option compared to NMIMS (Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies). However, if you are looking for a general management program, then NMIMS would be a better choice because of its excellent peer group and rigorous curriculum.

XLRI is still a good institute for other streams, but it is more specialized in HR and IR. Similarly, NMIMS is known for its general management program, and it may not have the same level of expertise as XLRI in HR/IR.
