Is NIT Allahabad or NIT Rourkela better?

DT
Diksha Thapiyal Posted On : January 21st, 2022
B.Tech from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad (2020)

It entirely depends on which branch you are choosing. If you are getting CSE or IT at NIT Allahabad, go for it. It will be the better option because of the placement opportunities available. For any other branches, you can choose either of these two institutes. The campus of NIT Rourkela is better than NIT Allahabad.

If NSIT gets placement of 1 crore while IIIT Delhi gts only 33 lakhs per annum, why isn't NSIT better than IIIT Delhi?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : August 21st, 2023

Here are a few pros and cons of the institute that will help you understand this matter better

Pros

  • NSIT offers an excellent ROI considering its minimal fees and excellent scholarships, internship stipends, and placement opportunities.
  • The academic workload is very low and studying a month prior is more than enough to ace the exams here. This helps you save time for MOOCs and build up your CV.
  • The quality of companies that visit for placement is top-notch. The institute welcomes diverse recruiters from silicon valley startups to very established big MNCs.
  • NSIT Delhi has some of the most talented people taking admission here. The 1% of people in AIEEE or JEE-MAINS get to study here. An excellent peer culture helps you gain extra knowledge of life.
  • NSIT has a very rich coding culture and has produced some of the best coders. Online coding is common here and people can be seen involved in Codechef, SPOJ, Codeforces, and TopCoder.

Cons

  • The syllabus is outdated, obsolete, and fails to meet industry trends.
  • The faculty is pretty demotivated and has no interest in teaching. You will have to resort to self-study most of the time and seek help from your seniors.
  • Being a government college, getting some administrative work done is a big task. The results are often full of errors and approaching the administration and getting your query solved is difficult.
  • The research culture is pathetic here and the faculty do nothing to promote it among students. In fact, it’s difficult to even approach them for a project.

Overall, the institute offers a plethora of opportunities, especially in the IT sector but the quality of academics is a bit on the average side. As for your question, the yearly compensation is not 1 crore but much less. The figures are misleading and pay us just like what Google would pay in India around INR 24-25 LPA.

What is the difference between VTU and autonomous?

PP
Pari Patel Posted On : October 4th, 2021
BE Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering & Mathematics,Visvesvaraya Technological University (2017)

Having read some reviews online, I can say that there is not much difference in the colleges but the approaches to studies or academics, placements, etc. vary to a great extent.

  • The syllabus in autonomous is designed in a way that keeps students in the centre and the methods get revised once every two years.
  • But in VTU, it gets revised only once every 5 years. It is not student-centered but exam-centered.
  • From an exam perspective, there are differences also. Autonomously, the question paper is set by the professor or an expert and is assessed internally too.
  • But in VTU, the paper is set by a field expert and the evaluation takes place by exchanging mark sheets regionally.
  • Sometimes, it is easy for autonomous students to score because the questions are set by their own professor and it is not the case with VTU students.

Now, when coming to the certification level, your degree certificate will have the name of your autonomous college that comes under VTU as it will be issued by VTU. But the college will not be mentioned if your degree is from VTU.

You need to be aware of the differences between the two in the aspects like faculty, facilities, and placements. In the end, these 3 are the most important things that depict the status of an institute.

What is it like to be in IIM Ahmedabad without any IIT degree?

AA
Aarti Ahuja Posted On : October 4th, 2023
Lives in Ahmedabad

IIM Ahmedabad without an IIT degree is not only possible but also an exciting opportunity. To get into IIM Ahmedabad, you must first master the CAT test-taking approach, which takes time. It goes beyond merely covering the course, which will take at least 6 months for a typical student.

Do you know what's really cool about being surrounded by IITians, especially when it comes to their incredible math skills? It's like being in the presence of math wizards. But here's the thing, at IIM Ahmedabad, there are only a few papers that dive deep into pure mathematics. So, those math geniuses get to shine brightly in those subjects. It's their moment to show their exceptional talents.

It doesn't end there. IITians, like everyone else, have their strengths and weaknesses. You might see them struggling in subjects like Operations, Marketing, or Organizational Behaviour (OB). It's a reminder that being exceptional in one area doesn't mean they're naturally gifted in everything.

Remember the phrase from marketing, 'Carve your niche'? That's your superpower. Focus on what you're passionate about, where you excel, and where you can make a real impact.

Is NIT Goa good? What companies come for placement and what salary do they offer?

NK
Nishita Kaur Posted On : August 26th, 2021
M.Tech Very-Large-Scale Integration, National Institute of Technology, Goa (2021)

I will share my experience at NIT Goa after I took admission in M.Tech in VLSI at the institute. Please remember that these will be my thoughts and might differ from person to person.

College Campus

  • NIT Goa currently operates from a temporary campus located at Goa Engineering College in Farmagudi, Goa which is approximately 29 km away from the state capital at Panaji.
  • Since it is a temporary campus, it has limited accommodation facilities and thus M.Tech and Ph.D. pursuing boys are not given any hostel. They have to stay on their own.
  • For food, you can use the hostel mess and college canteens which will cost you around INR 40 – 50 per day.
  • For commuting, you can use the bus service provided by the college completely free of cost. Otherwise, you can definitely keep your own motorcycle or scooter since you are staying outside campus.

Academics

  • There is a separate VLSI lab for M.Tech students which is open for use 24X7. Each M.Tech student is allocated a separate PC with its user ID.
  • The labs have access to all the required software you will ever need to play around with, simulate and verify your ideas. For example Cadence, MATLAB, Mentor, and Xilinx.

Placements

  • In the VLSI domain, many companies such as Intel Corporation, NXP Semiconductor, Global Foundries, and ON Semiconductor visit the campus for summer internships while companies like Sankhya Labs and C-DAC have visited the campus for final placements.
  • The industry tie-ups are increasing and will increase further as more students pass from the institute.
  • The placement data for the year 2020-21 is given below for your reference. It is an overall placement record
Particulars Statistics
Placement Percentage 90.38%
Highest Package 20 LPA
Average Package 7.6 LPA
Lowest Package 3.5 LPA
Placed Students 47

In my experience, NIT Goa has been very good for me. I have had a very good social life. However you will also need to work hard during your years at the institute.

Can someone suggest how to do preparation for the IIMC, Delhi entrance exam?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : June 15th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

The entrance exam (written and interview) for IIMC, Delhi tests a candidate’s personality and creative skills the most. These tips will help you to crack both the written and the interview part. These tips are for the applicants of both, Radio & TV and English Journalism  -

  • Read any English national newspaper on a regular basis - preferably read The Hindu and The Indian Express. This habit will help you even after you get admission into IIMC. Write down important facts and give more than one reading to the editorial section to improve your understanding of current affairs. Your answers in the exam should not be politically biased.
  • Keep yourself updated on all the events of national and international significance- Pratiyogita Darpan and Competition Refresher will help you, especially if you have less preparation time. Being ready with the analysis and a gist of current affairs will help you score extra points. Discuss current affairs with friends and make sure to understand different perspectives on that particular event/issue.
  • Use a dictionary whenever you read a newspaper- Mark all the words that are new to you and search for their meaning. Use either a dictionary on your mobile or a hard copy. Jot down the new words and their meanings. This will enhance your English vocabulary. Also, memorize antonyms and synonyms, as many as you can.
  • Watch videos to polish your vocabulary and grammar- Also watch the youtube videos of Study IQ, Byjus, and Unacademy to get all the information regarding every important current affair. ‘The Big Picture’ on Rajya Sabha TV’s youtube channel is another good watch in this regard.
  • Make a habit to write on on a regular basis- Start with 2 articles on current events a day and then gradually take the count to 4-5 articles each day. Remember to follow 5W’s and 1H. Remember to write a balanced article that is fact-based. This will be helpful during the written exams and the interview.
  • Talk to yourself- Ask questions to yourself and try to reply with utmost sincerity as if you are answering in the interview.
  • Go through the Previous Year's Papers- This way you will understand what kind of questions are asked. You can then prepare in a better way.

All these tips will help you crack the written, GD, and PI rounds of the entrance at IIMC, Delhi and even help you during your academic years at IIMC.
