How does IIT Hyderabad compare to other second generation IITs in India?

C
ChromaticChimera Posted On : February 10th, 2026

Based on what the NIRF rankings say and my own experience, IIT Hyderabad stands out among the newer IITs, especially in academics and research. The faculty here is top-notch, with professors who have earned their PhDs from prestigious universities like Stanford and Cornell. A notable example is Dr. Vidyasagar. If you look at some of the successful alumni, you'll find names like Vishwak in academia and Sneha Kuduganta at Google DeepMind. As of 2021, IIT Hyderabad is known for having the best faculty in AI and is the only IIT with a dedicated AI branch.

On the sports front, the new sports complex, which the Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate this year, is set to be the largest among all IITs. It features indoor basketball courts and other sports facilities. Even before these facilities were fully ready, IIT Hyderabad's basketball team made it to the semifinals in the Inter IIT tournament.

Update as of 2024: The sports complex is now complete and looks stunning. IIT Hyderabad clinched gold in swimming events. Placements have been impressive, with offers from quantitative firms reaching about 96 lakh INR. Many students have landed jobs at big companies like Google and Amazon, and several have been accepted into top universities in the US. The opening rank for admissions in 2021 also improved significantly, jumping to 154.

What is your review of Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad IITH

C
CrimsonComet Posted On : February 9th, 2026

The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad is one of the quickest advancing IITs, nestled in one of India's major industrial hubs. The institute offers a lot of flexibility with its curriculum. They introduce innovative ideas like Fractal Academics and fractional credit courses in areas like Photojournalism and Film Making, along with classes taught by industry professionals. They also have unique interdisciplinary programs such as Engineering Science and offer a Minor in entrepreneurship. Being situated in a metro city with plenty of research facilities, laboratories, and multinational companies gives it an advantage over IITs and NITs in smaller locations. Among the newer IITs, IITH stands out as one of the top choices.

Is IIT Hyderabad good or bad??

E
EmeraldEmissary Posted On : February 8th, 2026

When I first arrived at the ODF Medak campus, where IIT Hyderabad is located, I wasn't thrilled about the setting. The hostel rooms were in old barracks that had been fixed up. However, I didn't let any of this dampen my excitement to begin my journey here because I was determined to advance in my career.

Choosing IIT Hyderabad over other newer IITs was an easy decision after hearing great feedback about their education, research opportunities, and job prospects. My goal was to advance my career, and I was ready to deal with some challenges if it meant being in a place that could support my growth.

I was not let down by my choice. The teaching quality, support from professors, and the wide range of classes (like Psychology, Entrepreneurship, and Photojournalism) prepared me intellectually for future challenges. In my first year, I was able to get a research assistantship due to a project I had worked on in Psychology, analyzing how authors of research papers collaborate.

Being a relatively new institution, IIT Hyderabad offers lots of chances for students to take initiative and be creative. Organizing our festival, Elan, and interacting with classmates, whether positively or negatively, helped me develop emotionally. Even years later, I still talk about my Elan experience during job interviews to demonstrate my skills.

I owe a big part of my success today to my time at IIT Hyderabad. Like anything worthwhile, success there also came with its challenges. When I was there, the placement cell and administration seemed slow, but I understand they were just getting started, as I was only in the second graduating batch. If you can't handle organizational politics, stereotypes, subpar mess food (common in many Indian colleges), or the distance from Hyderabad, and you're not ready to push through these issues, then IIT Hyderabad might not be for you.

However, if you're focused on becoming a successful professional and are ready to overcome any obstacles, IIT Hyderabad is one of the best places in India to achieve that. The experience there definitely fosters both professional and personal growth.

What type of students will I meet at IIT Hyderabad Btech? Are they mostly South Indians as I have heard?

S
SilverSongbird Posted On : February 4th, 2026

It really depends on what you mean by "South." It's a bit subjective. For example, if you're in Jammu, Punjab would be considered south. But if you're in Russia, all of India is south. Could you clarify which areas or states you have in mind? By the way, I'm studying at IIIT Hyderabad, and I'm from Patiala. It's up to you to decide if that's considered south based on your perspective.

What is your advice for freshers at IIT Hyderabad?

G
GraniteGuardian Posted On : February 4th, 2026

Take it easy and relax. You'll find that you have plenty of free time, so no need to worry too much about studies. Having an SBI bank account with net banking is handy, and a PAN card might be useful too. In your first semester, don't skip the NSO sports selections, or else you might end up doing social service for all four years. Stay engaged and avoid getting too caught up in video games like PUBG. It's a good idea to have your own laptop. That's all there is to it. Hope this helps!

What are the advantages of studying in IIT Hyderabad over old IITs?

A
AzureAlchemist Posted On : January 30th, 2026

Here's a rundown of why IIT Hyderabad might be a great choice compared to the older IITs:

The AI department stands out with top-notch faculty. Quite a few professors from IIT Bombay have moved to IIT Hyderabad as it is expanding quickly. You can find them listed as former faculty on the IIT Bombay CSE website.

In case you are curious about the expertise of the teachers in the CSE department, you'll be pleased to know that a couple of them earned their PhDs from Stanford, and another from Cornell, which speaks volumes about their credentials. Plus, Dr. M Vidyasagar is a notable professor in the AI department.

The campus offers superior academic facilities, with modern classrooms and impressive buildings.

IIT Hyderabad has a strong connection with Japan, allowing students to intern at Japanese companies and participate in student exchange programs, making it easier to visit Japan.

Finally, the hostel rooms are cleaner and more comfortable, adding to the overall experience.

I have complete bsc in industrial chemistry, can i do msc in industrial chemsitry?

VB
Vinima Bhola Posted On : June 23rd, 2025

The answer will vary depending on the particular institution and its requirements if you have earned a B.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry and would like to pursue an M.Sc. in Industrial Chemistry.  IIT Kharagpur does not, however, provide an M.Sc. programme that focuses on "Industrial Chemistry."  Instead, applicants who have finished a B.Sc. with a specific number of chemistry subjects are eligible to apply for an M.Sc. in Chemistry (and integrated M.Sc.+Ph.D. in Chemistry).

Eligibility for IIT Kharagpur’s M.Sc in Chemistry:

  • B.Sc (Chemistry) or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/PwD) from a recognized university.
  • Candidates must have studied Mathematics at the 10+2 level.
  • For integrated M.Sc+Ph.D. Similar criteria apply, but some programs may require a certain CGPA for progression to the Ph.D. phase
