IITs are generally better known, and have a stronger brand recognition compared to NITs. An ‘IIT’ tag holds a better reputation on national and global level. Additionally, IITs typically have a higher faculty to student ratio and better infrastructure compared to NITs.

As a result, IITs offer better academic support and opportunities for students. Though the rankings of NITK and NIT Warangal are much higher, this can be attributed to their much older legacy. IIT Bhubaneswar is a new institution with modern infrastructure and facilities.  NIT Warangal has slightly better placements for CSE, but IIT Bhubaneswar is performing undoubtedly well in this regard.

Because of all these reasons, I would say that IIT Bhubaneswar is better than NIT Surathkal/Warangal for B.Tech CSE.

Can you tell something about the English test in IIT Bhubaneswar?

RM
Rachita Mishra Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar (2021)

There are basically two types of English courses in the first year at IIT Bhubaneswar,Basic English, andEnglish for Communications.

Basic English or Learning English involves the basics in English such as grammar, punctuation, etc. The course is aimed to develop the listening, speaking, and reading skills of students. The syllabus covers writing practices, practice in listening and speaking in English and grammar practice, etc.

English for Communications is tougher than Basic English as it involves some advanced learning in the subject. It is an integration of language, literature, and communication. The objective of this module is to build confidence and to develop presentation skills, the manifestation of ideas, viewpoints, and thoughts.

The English Diagnostic Test is conducted for first year B.Tech students at the beginning of the academic year. It aims to test one’s knowledge in the subject, the questions asked are basic. Based on the results of the test, the section in which one study is determined. If one scores well in the test, they are registered in English for Communications and if one scores an average mark then they are registered for Basic English.

Will it be worth doing mtech in transportation from iit bhubaneswar instead choosing water resources from iit kgp ?

DG
Disha Gupta Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech CSEIIT Bhubaneswar

This totally depends upon your interest in the subject. You should give preference to the subject rather than a degree from college because your subject will shape your future.

The school of water resources is one of the pioneer centers for education and training in water quality and quantity management. There is an advanced research water quality lab in IIT Kharagpur. It is an old IIT and will provide more opportunities for higher studies in foreign universities, people also go to foreign universities from IIT Bhubaneswar but opportunities in IIT KGP will be more.

The water resources have limited scope considering the Indian employment scenario. If you are giving preference to the subject then join IIT Bhubaneswar. If your preference is not the subject then join IIT KGP because exposure and opportunities will be more in IIT KGP. A student planning for Ph.D. after M-tech will have much better scopes in IIT KGP than IIT Bhubaneswar.

Priti Bansal Posted On : August 13th, 2020
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (2020)

Very few IITs in India offer Geology and all of them follow the same curriculum. The faculties at IIT Bhubaneswar is well qualified and experienced. Given below are a few advantages of choosing geology at IIT Bhubaneswar:-

  • One of the parts of the IIT Bhubaneswar campus is close to Chilka lake, which is used for ocean and navel geology based courses, it is probably the only IIT in the country with such practical facilities available.
  • Being one of the most culturally effervescent cities in the country and having a tropical savanna climate, Bhubaneswar is the most suitable for the field of climate and ocean research.
  • There are a large number of elective courses of the geology department that are available in IIT Bhubaneswar with a few notable ones being Glacial Geoscience, Modelling and Stimulation, and many others. There are about 11 elective courses in MSc Geology each having 3 contact hours and 3 credits and divided between semesters(I and II) and (III and IV). The first two semesters have courses like environmental earth sciences and the 3rd and 4th semesters have courses like organic geochemistry.

Which will be a better choice, 5 year MTech in IIT Bhubaneswar or 4 year chemical in IIT Hyderabad or aerospace in IIST?

NR
Nikhil Raj Posted On : August 14th, 2020

M.Tech from IIT Bhubaneswar makes sense only if you are willing to study more on research-based topics of the subject. It is best if one is looking for a career in Teaching, Researching, etc. to further gain knowledge about the subject and not work in MNCs.

IIT Hyderabad ranks 8th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2020. The number of students who got placed from the Chemical Engineering department in the 2019 placements was 26. The average salary package offered to students with Chemical Engineering is 15 lakhs per annum.

IIST is a space institute under the Department of Space. The students from IIST are recruited as scientists and engineers in the Department of Space facilities and Indian Space Research Organization centers all over India. They receive a starting salary of 10 lakhs per annum. Facilities like Infrastructure, Library, sports facilities, Computer labs, clinics, Data centers in IIST are much better and well equipped than the IITs.

Thus it is your choice to opt for what course you are interested in.

The cut off i.e the closing rank for the gender-neutral category for ECE in the year 2019 was 4464 for IIT Dhanbad and 3691 for IIT Bhubaneswar respectively.

Students tend to pick IIT Bhubaneswar over IIT Dhanbad due to the temporary campus status and younger experience of IIT Dhanbad as an institution, other facilities like infrastructure, sports, faculty are good in both institutes.

The final decision should be taken by comparing both the placement rates and institutes as a whole; giving equal importance to the choice of branch of engineering that you would like to pursue.

Should I choose IIT Bhubaneswar MEC or IIT Guwahati civil?

AJ
Adwait Jain Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar

First of all, it depends on your interest whether you want to pursue engineering in Mechanical or Civil, and only then you can decide the better college. As the engineering branches are different it’s difficult to pick one college over the other.

Comparing the two courses in terms of placements offered last year, we see 83% of the Mechanical branch students got placed in IIT Bhubaneswar with average CTC 11.4 LPA. 77% of the Civil students in IITG got placed last year. The average package offered in IIT Guwahati was around 11 LPA while the highest went up to 39 LPA.

Being the older IIT, the infrastructure of IITG is good and the placements for both the core as well as the non-core sectors are also quite good. IIT Bhubaneswar has been showing good numbers in recent years and is developing gradually.

You can also look for some other options for mechanical other than IIT Bhubaneswar. If you manage to get a good score in Mains, you can look for admission in old NIT where you will get better future opportunities also good placement packages. While IIT Guwahati being an older institute is expected to attract many of the major recruiters from all the sectors and provide good CTC.

So, choose the college based on your branch of interest.
