NIT, Srinagar has been ranked 67 by NIRF,2020. The Mechanical Engineering department of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar offers full-time BTech and MTech courses.

The faculty of the department is experienced and well-qualified. A lot of emphases is laid upon practical exposure and internships. Students are taken on industrial visits. Projects are given for a better theoretical understanding.

Students also get pre-placement training to get ready for the placement drive at the institute. Students are encouraged to get internships as it increases their chance to get good jobs compared to students who don’t pursue an internship.

Placements:

• Some students get paid internships while others work in unpaid settings. Companies like DRDO, IISC, NPTC hire students for internships stating that if students do well during their interning period, they would be offered a job once the internship period is over.

• Placement opportunities are average. Although many good companies visit the campus to hire students only a few companies are from the core Mechanical sector.

• The average salary offered is 6.5 LPA. Companies like ABB, L&T, Maruti Suzuki, Indian Oil, AFCON infra, IISC Bangalore, NPTC, etc.

The only drawback is that on-campus core- sector jobs are less. Searching and applying for jobs outside is always an option. Many students apply for jobs themselves and do get those jobs.

Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College (BVM) is located in Gujrat and is a grant-aided engineering college. The institute is affiliated with the Gujarat Technological Institute and provides a BE course for Mechanical Engineering.

Dharmsinh Desai University (DDIT) is located in Nadiad, Gujrat, and is one of the most prospering universities in Gujarat which has been ranked in the band of 101-150 best universities in India by the NIRF ranking frameworks. It offers a BTech in Mechanical Engineering.

Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) is located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The university is a member of AIU and is NAAC accredited with an ‘A’ grade. It offers a BTech program for Mechanical.

BVM:

Academics:

• Admission to Mechanical engineering at BVM is on the basis of rank secured by students in the Gujarat Common Entrance Test. Students who have a valid JEE Main score can also apply.

• The required cutoff for Mechanical at the institute are 1775 (JEE Main) and 2464 (GUJCET).

• The course fee is 1.31 lakhs per annum.

Placements:

It is one of the most popular courses at BVM with maximum students pursuing a career at a company within Gujarat.

• Over 35 companies visit the campus placement with big names like TCS, L&T, Infosys, etc.

• The highest CTC offered at the institute is 12 lakhs.

DDIT:

• DDIT students are required to take GUJCET or JEE Main in order to seek admission.

PDPU:

• Students seeking admission to the BTech Mechanical course should have a valid JEE Mains score. The required cutoff is around 2861.

• PDPU is also famous for its placement with over 80% of students getting placed in top companies in the field.

• Some notable employers include Honeywell, UOP, L&T Technology Services, Torrent Power, Jubilant Life sciences, Byju’s, Torrent Gas, ExxonMobil, Welspun, etc.

• The average CTC offered at the institute is 6.75 LPA, whereas the highest CTC goes up to 16.6 LPA.

Thus, it completely depends on the students which college they should choose for their B.tech in Mechanical Engineering.

Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) ranks among the top 25 institutes of India by India Today. The institute consists of the best faculty members for mechanical engineering. 

ABES Engineering College is ranked 1st among the engineering colleges in Lucknow. The institute has one of the best placement records where more than 1260 job offers were made to the 2019-20 batch.

Admission process:

GCET

• Minimum of 50% marks with physics, chemistry and mathematics as the compulsory subjects. 
• Admissions are based on UPSEE counseling; if seats are vacant, they are filled with the management quota.
• The cutoff required in the UPSEE exam is 155 - 127845.
• The number of seats available is 120.
• The total fees required is INR 7.2 LPA. 

ABES

• A minimum of 45% marks with physics and maths as compulsory subjects.
• The candidates will be shortlisted based on the valid scores in JEE Main.
• The final selection will be based on UPSEE counseling.
• The cutoff required is in the range of 560 - 83110.
• The fees required is INR 5.53 LPA. 
• The total intake is 180.

Placements

The placement in GCET is pretty much good and decent. Around 80% of the students get job placements every year. Top-notch companies always visit the campus and offer handsome packages to the students of INR 3 LPA.

ABES Engineering college provides on-campus placements to the students. The year witnessed 212 offers with an average salary of INR 5 LPA. 1260 placement offers were received and 759 students got placed in 2019 placement drive.

ABES engineering college has some of the best infrastructure facilities available for the students in terms of well-equipped laboratories, well-structured hostels and well-equipped seminar halls.

Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology provides almost 100% placement every year. The faculty members are all from NITs or IITs. Thus it is a better choice for mechanical engineering than ABES Engineering College.

The LNM Institute of Information Technology (LNMIIT) is a Deemed University approved by All India Council for Technical Education and accredited with Grade A by NAAC. In 2019, The Week has ranked LNMIIT #4th in North Zone among Non-government Technical Universities, #7th in India among Non-government Technical Universities, and #35th in India among Universities.IIITDM Jabalpur is approved by University Grants Commission, furthermore, the NIRF has ranked IIITDM #75th among top engineering colleges in India.

Eligibility:

LNMIIT

• The eligibility for B.Tech CSE at LNMIIT is 60% marks in 10+2 with an aggregate of 60%. The selection criteria depend on the JEE Main scores.
• For M.Tech CSE, the applicant should qualify GATE or LNMIIT based written score followed by an interview and passed B.E/B.Tech with a minimum of 60%.

IIITDM

• For B.Tech ME admission, the candidate should be JEE Main qualified as well as passed 10+2 with Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects.
• Admission for M.Tech ME is based on GATE scores and eligibility criteria of having B.Tech with minimum 60% marks or CPI/CGPA 6.0.
• For Ph.D. in ME, the selection criteria are GATE and the applicant should have Master’s (M.A, MSc, M.Tech, etc) with minimum 60% marks or CPI/CGPA 6.0

IIITDM Jabalpur

The department is also recognized as a QIP center for the training of faculties from other colleges. DTU is an Institute of National Importance and is a member of AIU.

• DTU has been ranked 1st and NIT Surathkal has been ranked 4th for Engineering by Times 2020.

• DTU was ranked 36th for Engineering by NIRF 2020.

• Admission to B.Tech program at DTU and NIT Surathkal is done on the basis of JEE Mains score and percentage at 10+2.

All these institutes offer decent Mechanical Engineering programs. JUET has been ranked 86 among the top 100 universities in India by NIRF. Whereas G.L. Bajaj Noida and Medicaps Indore are ranked 26 and 118 for B.Tech by India Today.

JUET Guna:

Admission-

• For BTech admission, 60 seats are filled through JEE and another 60 is on a merit basis (10+2 results).

• The tuition fee per semester for B.Tech is Rs.82500 and Rs.42000 for M.Tech.

• There are a total of 120 seats for B.Tech and 10 seats for the M.Tech course.

Hence, it is better to choose either JUET or Medicaps. Both offer B.Tech and M.Tech degrees in Mechanical Engineering, along with advanced curriculum and well-equipped laboratory facilities to make the students apt for the emerging market demands.
