NISER Bhubaneswar has a nice campus. You will get free wi-fi in the hostels. The hostel rooms also have independent LAN ports, so connectivity will not be a problem. The institute offers separate hostel accommodation for boys and girls.

There are two canteens, where you can have your lunch and dinners. There are also a few eateries around the campus. Although there aren’t many sports facilities available on campus. There are playgrounds for Football, Basketball, Volleyball.

There is a market nearby where you can get your daily amenities. There are buses from campus to the market every day.

The movie club arranges movies every 7-15 days inside the campus. Also, there is a meditation center at the hilltop inside the campus. You can visit it anytime you feel stressed.

What is your daily schedule in IIIT Hyderabad?

SG
Souvick Gupta Posted On : August 2nd, 2023
Studied at IIIT Hyderabad (2018)

My uncle is a faculty member at IIIT Hyderabad. He resides at the IIIT Hyderabad campus itself and his office is a 7 minute walk from his residence. This is a breakdown of his activities-

  1. He reaches the office at around 10 am if he has no class for the day. On days that he does have a class, he prefers to prepare for it at home, in a distraction free setup. Faculty members usually handle 1 to 2 courses per semester, and rarely more than 3 courses per year.
  2. He prepares for around 5 hours for a 1.5 hour lecture, unless he has taught the topic twice before. He has to teach for 2 days a week.
  3. Apart from this, he holds meetings with his students. He holds typically 1-2 meetings that are 1.5 hours long, mostly on non-teaching days.
  4. On an average, half an hour of his day goes into faculty meetings, committee meetings, etc.
  5. Another half an hour (on an average) a day is spent in preparing quizzes and problem sets for his classes.
  6. Occasionally, proposal writing and paper evaluation demand his attention.
  7. He devotes an average of 2 hours a day to work on his research problems and on his students’ problems. On days that he is free from other commitments, he devotes more time to problem solving work.
  8. Other than these 6-7 hours of work a day, he spends the rest of his time in leisure and fun activities and exercising.
  9. It's a general breakdown of his activities rather than a strict daily schedule. Faculty members have a weekly rather than a daily schedule.

Thus, as a faculty member at IIIT Hyderabad, my uncle’s days are quite busy and productive.

What should I know about MTech life at IISc, Bangalore?

SB
Saikat Banerjee Posted On : July 14th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc)

The life of an MTech student at IISc is pretty busy and challenging. Students are given broad exposure to a wide variety of disciplines. The coursework is rigorous and helps you become proficient in a particular discipline through thesis research. My sister completed her ME in Microelectronic Systems from IISc last year and shared her experience of the same.

The first semester was very challenging and tiring as she had to complete 36 credits in all. She was advised to complete 5 credits in the first semester which wasn’t easy as most courses have assignments and projects.

The curriculum at IISc is flexible and students are given freedom in course choice. So apart from the core courses, students can take courses from any department be it Genetics, Molecular Biology, or Physics.

The students are assigned research advisors by the end of the first semester so they have to get in the good books of the faculty members they wish to work under.

The campus is serene with the best amenities one could ask for. The sports facilities are also great including TT, Soccer, Cricket, Hockey, Swimming, etc. The food served is of good quality and midnight cravings are catered to by coffee shops and fresh fruit juice stalls operate really late into the night to serve the late-night cravings of the graduate students.

Her overall experience as an MTech student at IISc Bangalore was challenging and rewarding at the same time.

How is the campus life at NIT Durgapur?

RS
Raghav Saini Posted On : September 7th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Durgapur (2022)

Like everyone else, I too was a little skeptical about NIT Durgapur during admissions. But as time passed by, I enjoyed my campus life and made numerous friends..

The campus will allow you to meet people from different backgrounds. You’ll even get in touch with some foreign students. Within a few weeks, you’ll make new friends.

There are many clubs at NIT Durgapur and you can join more than one. Some of these are- Music Club, Dance Club, Literary Circle, CCA, MNTC, Spic Macay, etc. There is no favoritism during club selections. You’ll get to know of hangout spots like NIT Duck Pond or Techno.

As far as academics is concerned, there are some exceptional teachers in every branch who will light up your passion for learning. For example, SG sir in the EE department. Academics has become stricter since course and semester structure were revised a few years back.

During your final year, placements will be the most important. Do not worry, the placement record of NIT Durgapur is good. You’ll find that most students study only a week before exams. But make sure you know your subjects well. Otherwise you’ll face problems during the placement season.

NIT Durgapur will give you freedom. But you’ll soon realize the responsibilities that accompany it. Campus life, especially hostel life, is great.

What are some helpful tips for students starting their first year at MSU Baroda?

SJ
Swastika Joshi Posted On : December 22nd, 2021
studied Environmental Science at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (2016)

One of my friends recently graduated from MSU Baroda. Let me share some of the points she mentioned about the college, which might also help go through your first year of college.

  • The faculty of MSU are highly skilled and experienced in their respective fields.
  • It will take some time to get used to the culture and the overall environment. If you are fluent in Hindi or Gujrati, adjusting here will be no problem.
  • It will take time to get used to the daily food also as they have their unique way of preparing them which is quite different in every other state.
  • The weather here is quite humid, if you are used to dry weather and extreme winters it could take some time adjusting.
  • MSU as a university is a very open and independently cultured place. You will have the complete freedom to explore the place and build your personality as well.
  • Many events are also held in the campus which brings everyone together. These include DJ nights, Navratri celebrations, and sponsored events.
  • The day of the exams are hectic and teachers prefer their students to mug up information rather than actually understanding it.

Overall it is a really nice place. In your first year you will get to interact with lots of students and will also have enough time to explore the place. After your first year the pressure of the studies increases so, it is suggested that you explore most during your first year.
