SG
Spandana Gupta Posted On : March 13th, 2023
MBA from NMIMS (Graduated 2018)

If you couldn't convert an IIM, don't worry because it's not the end of the world. NMIMS Mumbai offers placements that are at par with IIMs. The institute has consistently grown over the past few years and is now one of the top-ranked B Schools in the country. NMIMS is one of the quickest-growing and top private universities in the country. It has undergone an incredible transformation since its commencement.

Today, it stands as an imposing University with seven specialized faculties and two off-campus operations, with an intake of over 6000 students and over two hundred full-time college members. From its temporary location in the Bhaidas area, it has moved to an outsize complex of over 40000 sq feet where it stands today as a landmark in Vile Parle, an affluent community of urban center.

If you are looking for a B-School that takes major initiatives in terms of programs, courses of study development, international linkages, placements, and students’ development, then NMIMS Deemed-to-be University is the perfect choice for you. Today, the University is a globalized center of learning, providing its students a balanced exposure to research, teachers, and practical aspects of the business. The students are encouraged to undertake an internship with companies. The focus at this B-School is to develop a Complete Student, which is an equivalent or balance of academic and co-curricular skills. This B-School grooms the students to face the challenges of the corporate world with a mixture of social sensitivity. Besides the requisite managerial skills, the students also attain visionary, entrepreneurial, and leadership skills.

If you are someone who finds CAT difficult, then you will be happy to know that NMAT is an easy exam as compared to CAT. It has no negative marking. The intake in NMIMS Mumbai is 550, so your chances of getting in are pretty good. Unlike IIM A B C, NMIMS does not give much weightage to past academic records. So even if you have a poor academic record, you have a good chance of getting into NMIMS Mumbai, provided that you meet the desired NMAT scores and Cd Pi scores. Therefore, you can be assured that you will get a good education and a bright future at NMIMS Mumbai, even if you couldn't convert into an IIM.

For an MBA in Marketing, NMIMS Mumbai is the better choice among these. If the steep course fee isn’t an issue for you, go for NMIMS.

NMIMS provides you with the best platform for networking with a vibrant and diverse student community.

  • After a rigorous selection process, the meritorious students from across India become a part of the NMIMS community.
  • In addition, the level of diversity attracts students from various backgrounds and places to join NMIMS.
  • The institute is home to approximately 23% freshmen and 77% work-experienced students from a variety of educational backgrounds, including engineering (84%), commerce (8%), management (3%), science (2%), arts (1%) and others (2 percent).

Which college should I prefer for an MBA between IIT KGP VGSOM NMIMS Mumbai IIM Ranchi SP Jain marketing SIBM Pune and IIT Delhi DMS?

AD
Adiksha Das Posted On : March 13th, 2023
Studied at Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi

When choosing your desired colleges, it is recommended to consider the following options in the given order:

  1. SP Jain - Despite the high fee, the maximum salary package offered was INR 52.16 LPA, while the average salary package stood at INR 32.06 LPA during 2022 placements, and the job roles offered are on par with top-tier institutions like FMS or IIM ABC. Missing out on this opportunity would not be wise.
  2. IIM Ranchi/IIT Delhi - If you are an engineer, it is recommended to go for IIT Delhi as the MBA course structure is heavily inclined towards statistics and technology. On the other hand, if you are interested in pursuing a career in HR, IIM Ranchi is the best option due to its reputation for providing excellent HR placements and the prestigious IIM tag.
  3. SIBM Pune - Although not on par with the previously mentioned B Schools, this college is one of the biggest brands you can opt for. The average salary for the 2021-22 batch was INR 23.06 LPA and the job roles offered were on par with the new IIMs. Additionally, you will benefit from a robust alumni network due to the college's age.
  4. NMIMS - While this college is located in Mumbai and might be a good option for students from that area, the high fee can be a concern. However, it is known for its Finance specialization.
  5. IIT KGP - As this college only accepts engineers, the batch will not be diverse, and neither will the job roles offered. Given the other options provided, this college may not be the best choice for you.

It is important to consider each option carefully and choose the one that best fits your needs and career goals. Take your time, do your research, and make an informed decision.

Is it correct joining NMIMS Mumbai core after having 3 years of IT experience and currently earning 50 000 per month?

AJ
Ashwin Jog Posted On : March 14th, 2023
MBA at NMIMS(2020)

To establish your credentials before answering the question, as a second-year student at NMIMS Mumbai, you can confidently say that you have three years of work experience in the IT industry prior to joining NM.

If you're considering doing your MBA, NMIMS Mumbai is a great place to pursue it. You can vouch for it because you're almost finished with your MBA and have been placed in a reputed organization with a decent salary.

In addition to a degree and a good pay package, NM can offer you other things that are very important:

  • Industry interface - Since NM is in Mumbai, you have the privilege of connecting with industry stalwarts at conferences, seminars, and guest sessions.
  • Batch strength - Networking is a buzzword that you'll hear a lot once you start your MBA. You'll want to know people, and people will want to know you. That's where the batch strength becomes a real strength.
  • Exposure - You'll have access to great classroom teaching, be able to participate in case study competitions, and execute tasks if you're part of some cell.

Now, here's a reality check:

  • NM is a great place to be. But when it comes to placements, it's generally observed that many people with significant work experience in IT move to IT and consulting roles after their MBA. However, the roles you get once you move to IT again are quite different from what a non-MBA gets. They can include business analyst, product management, pre-sales, and sales roles.
  • There have been instances where people have done good projects, won case study competitions, and performed well in their internships. These serve as certain criteria to make a switch to a different field. If you do well, are passionate about what you want to do in the future, and are also a cultural fit for the company, then you will surely be hired.

Do I need to have a work experience for pursuing MBA from NMIMS Mumbai?

vp
vidya prakhar Posted On : March 13th, 2023
M.B.A. - Marketing, NMIMS Mumbai (Batch '19-21)

If you are wondering whether work experience is mandatory to be eligible for NMIMS Mumbai, the answer is no, it is not. All you need to be (or about to be) is a graduate with a full-time degree of 3 years or more.

While having work experience can give you a slight advantage, as it is a part of the evaluatory component for the final admission score, it only accounts for a mere 5%. So, don't worry too much about it. You can always compensate by performing well in your NMAT and CD-PI rounds.

For your convenience, here are the APPROXIMATE (not official) proportion of the different factors that NMIMS considers for their final admissions:

  • NMAT Score - 70%
  • Personal Interview - 10%
  • Case Discussion - 10%
  • Academic Scores - 5%
  • Work Experience - 5%

As you can see, there is always some space for you to outperform and make up for any concerns you have within these parameters. So, focus on preparing well for your NMAT and showcasing your skills during the CD-PI rounds.

Does NMIMS Mumbai give a lot of importance to the overall profile of a candidate?

RJ
Rahul Jadhav Posted On : March 13th, 2023
MBA at NMIMS

If you are appearing for NMAT this year, it is important to focus on getting a high score right now. Achieving a significant score well above the cutoff will increase your chances of receiving a final admission. It is important to keep in mind that profile consideration will come into play once you receive an interview call.

While there are certain aspects that cannot be changed at this point, such as past academic performance or lack of achievements, there are still things you can work on in the short term to improve your chances. For example, improving your knowledge of current affairs, practicing group discussions, and mock personal interviews can help you prepare for subsequent stages of the selection process.

Therefore, it is important to prioritize getting a high score and preparing for subsequent stages, regardless of your past performance. By focusing on what you can control, you can maximize your chances of success in the NMAT selection process

What are chances of converting NMIMS Mumbai in 211?

KS
Krunal Sampat Posted On : February 28th, 2023
PGDM International Business & Marketing, K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (2020

Your chances of converting to NMIMS Mumbai are average considering the cutoff below

Section

Expected cutoff

Language skills

71

Quantitative Techniques

76

Logical Reasoning

69

Overall

232

The overall cutoff is 232 while your score is 211. This slight variation can be compensated by performing well in other rounds and areas. NMIMS gives different weights to the different parameters that constitute the final merit list:

  • NMAT Score - 70%
  • Group/Case Discussion - 10%
  • Personal Interview - 10%
  • Academic Performance - 5%
  • Work Experience - 5%

In case you think your NMAT score is not enough, acing the CDPI rounds will work for you. Both rounds carry a significant weightage of 10% each and can prove to be definite game changers. Other criteria include work experience and past academic records.

Also, there might be people who score higher than you but let that demotivate you as a lower score can be compensated in consecutive rounds. The CDPI round is rather unpredictable and needs to be handled tactfully. Sometimes the performance of one candidate can affect others in the case discussion round. So be prepared for the worst scare scenarios.
