How should I prepare for MA Economics entrances for JNU and DSE in 45 days?

DD
Disha Dey, Posted On : November 10th, 2021
M.A. Economics, Delhi School of Economics (2016)

Preparing for MA Economics entrances for JNU and DSE will need immense concentration and dedication. You will need to prioritize to keep everything in balance. Here are some things you can go through:

  • The core subjects include Mathematics, Statistics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics. Select any 3 out of these 5 subjects which you feel are your strengths.
  • Revise the basics from your graduation notes and practice past year exam papers.
  • For the subjects you feel you are weaker in, revise the basics. Do not spend too much time on them.
  • Practice questions from past years.
  • Analyse the topics in which you are lagging behind and try to read those in detail. You can also skip some topics too.
  • For Statistics, focus more on Permutations and Combinations, Probability, Discrete and Continuous Random Variables.
  • DSE requires a mathematical approach and proper concentration. So practice past year papers and do not forget concepts.

The books you can refer to are: Dornbush and Blanchard for Macroeconomics. Hal Varian, Nicolson, and Pyndick for Microeconomics. Hammond and Chiang for Maths. SC Gupta and Miller for Statistics and finally Gujarati for Econometrics.

Is it good to take ISM Dhanbad, M.Tech (mechanical) if I am getting in NIT Surathkal M.Tech (mechanical)? Which is better in terms of placements? Does ISM Dhanbad have the placements for M.Tech (ME)?

SG
Sharmila Ganguli Posted On : October 31st, 2020
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad (Graduated 2018)

M.Tech Mechanical is a preferred stream but its success is directly proportional to the level of placements offered by colleges in comparison to the fees or investment made. The number of students enrolled is less compared to B.Tech making it a less lucrative option for campus placements.

The detailed analysis is as follows.

Eligibility:

  • The basic criterion stands at graduation with a minimum score of 50%.

  • The common examination accepted is GATE.

Fees:

  • NIT Surathkal has a fee structure of Rs. 1.85 Lakhs

  • ISM Dhanbad offers the course is Rs. 1.05 Lakhs.

ISM has fewer fees as compared to NIT Surathkal.

Placement Details:

The prime-most details to be focused upon are the average and highest placement scenario of both the colleges in general.

College

Placement

NIT Surathkal

Average-Rs.11.90 LPA, Highest-Rs. 18.75 LPA

ISM Dhanbad

Highest-Rs. 12.50 LPA

  • 79% placements in NIT Surathkal M.Tech as opposed to 50% in ISM.

  • Major Recruiters are Teradata, Cisco, Dell EMC, Riverbed Technology, and Huawei Technologies.

  • ISM M.Tech is not preferable for mechanical, it’s a sure shot option in case of CSE or Mineral engineering.

  • The only reason to prefer ISM is the IIT factor attached to it which makes it more appealing in terms of faculty and culture.

The choice can be made both on the basis of placements and college ranking with respect to the course offered. The packages offered in the Mechanical stream in NIT Surathkal are quite good as compared to those in ISM Dhanbad. NIT Surathkal also holds a reputation in the institutional list with respect to its 7th position in the list of NIT.

I have converted to IIM Kashipur but already paid 1 term fee at IIM Sambalpur (no refund). What should I do?

RS
Rithvik Singh Posted On : February 10th, 2023
Management Consultant at KPMG India

When considering whether or not to pay around 170K for the first term at IIM Sambalpur, it is important to consider the potential financial loss and weigh it against the potential benefits.

In terms of placements, it is true that IIM Kashipur may have an upper edge, however, it is important to note that this difference will likely only make a significant impact on the top 10% of the batch. For the majority of students, the placements at both IIM Sambalpur and IIM Kashipur will likely be similar. Additionally, when considering future entitlements, it is important to remember that both IIM Kashipur and IIM Sambalpur are relatively new institutes, so the location may not hold as much value in the long term as building a strong personal profile.

It is ultimately up to you to decide whether or not you are willing to potentially lose the money, and if so, to not stress about it too much. On the other hand, if you are not willing to potentially lose the money, it is also important not to regret the decision in the long run.

What is the cutoff percentage of 12th class to get admission in BSc. CS, in Holkar Science College, Indore?

AM
Aniket Mitra Posted On : November 20th, 2021
B.Sc. Forensics from Holkar Science College, Indore (2019)

The required cutoff varies depending on various factors. Generally, you should have a percentage above 90%, if you want to take admission in B.Sc CS at Holkar Science College. If you have above 90%, you can choose your preferred combination of subjects. There are many subject choices.

Holkar Science College is a decent institute. But it may not offer you job opportunities, after the completion of your degree. You will have to seek opportunities on your own. If you have other options, it’s better to consider them.

Which one is better: CSE in Kiet Ghaziabad or IT in JSS Noida?

KS
Komal S Posted On : May 15th, 2024
(BTech-CSE at KIET), 2022

According to my experience as a former CSE student at KIET, choosing KIET over JSS Noida will be no doubt a good choice. You’ll also get the best infrastructure and faculty in the CSE branch.

There are considerably more opportunities here to do something unique in your field. I have seen my seniors getting placed at reputed companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Adobe, Accenture, and Infosys, to name just a few. Just last year, i.e. 2023, the highest package that they secured was INR 48.89 LPA. Moreover, about 93.98% of my seniors were successfully placed.

Lives in Puducherry

A close friend of mine shared a few pictures of her hostel room at JIPMER. This is Curie 1 and the little garden attached to it. My friend enjoyed staying at Curie 1 more than Curie 2 because the life here was more vibrant.

JIPMER college

The view from her balcony shows PG men's hostel and the two basketball courts in between

JIPMER college

The room with the green curtain belonged to my friend and the first door towards the right is the washroom for the set of rooms that are in the corridor

This is the wash area with provision for drying clothes

This is what her room in Curie 1 looked like as a whole.

The rooms in Curie 2 are much bigger.

I hope the pictures helped you get a clear idea of the girls' hostel facilities at JIPMER.

Is NIT Trichy CSE good?

SP
Shrija Param Posted On : July 20th, 2023
NIT Trichy

The CSE department of NIT Trichy, one of the top NITs second only to the old IITs is indeed a well-regarded branch that has excellent education and placement records. I would say joining this without any doubt will do you no harm. Here is why I consider this branch to be highly regarded

  • The infrastructure is state-of-the-art with great lab facilities.
  • The campus and accommodation facilities offered to NIT Trichy students are one of a kind.
  • Students get to showcase their talents through several platforms
  • The exposure and opportunities offered are excellent, helping to develop your personality as a whole.
  • The student crowd is diverse, improving the overall learning experience.
  • The placements as usual are the best

The CSE curriculum is pretty easy and gives you enough time to explore other passions.

Ultimately, NIT Trichy CSE is a great option if you are someone who has no specific interests and is considering engineering as a safe option for your career.
