MNNIT Allahabad is ranked 48th among top engineering institutes in India by MHRD’s 2020 NIRF rankings. The 2 years of M.Tech specializations offered by MNNIT in Mechanical Engineering (ME) include Computer-Aided Design & Manufacturing, Design, Production Engineering, Product Design & Development, and Part-Time Production Engineering.

NIT Bhopal is ranked 65th among top engineering institutes in India by MHRD’s 2020 NIRF rankings. It offers 4 years B.Tech in ECE with a total of 139 seats currently. The 2 years M.Tech in ECE offers specializations in two fields viz., Digital communication and VLSI & embedded systems. The entire faculty of the ECE department holds a doctorate in their respective fields.

Admission Process and Cut-off:

• Both the NITs consider JEE Main score for B.Tech and GATE score for M.Tech admissions.Admission for B.Tech is offered via JoSAA and that for M.Tech via CCMT.

The mechanical branch usually gets lesser core companies as compared to ECE and have to appear for non-core placement companies.

• MNNIT Allahabad:
  • ME branch gets core companies like Tata Motors, Tata Power, Tata Steel, Tata Chemicals Limited, L&T, General Motors, Ashok Leyland, BHEL, HPCL, DRDO, IOCL, GAIL, etc.
  • The placement percentage for the year 2019 was 93.64% of the ME branch.
  • The average salary package offered in 2019 was 6.94 lakhs and the maximum package offered was 17.3 lakhs.
• NIT Bhopal:
  • Toppr, JP Morgan, Samsung, Airtel, Nokia, John Deere, Cognizant, Wipro, etc. visit the campus for the ECE branch.
  • The placement percentage for the year 2018 was 91.04% of the ECE branch.
  • The average salary package offered in 2019 was 5.87 lakhs and the maximum package offered was 13 lakhs.

The choice of opting for either ME at MNNIT Allahabad or ECE at NIT Bhopal entirely lies with the students wanting to pursue it. Both of them are entirely different courses offered by nationally ranked institutes, hence should be opted by considering the stated facts and statistics.

NIT Srinagar is ranked 201 for BTech and 39 for BTech by NIRF 2020 and India Today 2020 respectively, whereas NIT Manipur ranks 158th for BTech by NIRF 2020. It has a 300+ acres campus area. It has a faculty strength of 70 members most of them being highly qualified and PhD holders.

NIT Nagaland is an autonomous university recognized by AICTE and UGC. They have a total of 43 faculty members, 27 of them being PhD holders.

NIT Mizoram is an autonomous university affiliated by AICTE. They have a total intake of 190+ students in each department. 

NIT Sikkim is an autonomous university approved by UGC and AICTE. NIT Sikkim offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

NIT Meghalaya ranks 61st for BTech by NIRF 2020. 104 students were placed in the 2018-2019 placement program conducted by the institute. It is accredited by AICTE.

A CSE graduate can work as a System Database Administrator, Computer Programmer, Engineering Support Specialist, Data Warehouse Analyst, System Designer, Software Developer, Software Engineer, Lecturer or Professor, Computer Operator and Research Analyst.

Students graduating with ECE can work as Electronics Engineer, Field Test Engineer, Network Planning Engineer, Electronics and Communications Consultant, Research and Development Software Engineer.

Thapar (TIET) University is deemed to be university ranked 51 overall and 29 for BTech by NIRF 2020. They have collaborations with International Universities like Trinity College, Dublin and The University of Waterloo. 

UIET Chandigarh is affiliated to Panjab University and approved by AICTE. It is ranked 72nd by NIRF India Rankings 2020. UIET Chandigarh was ranked 22nd by Outlook 2019 for their Engineering Programs.

Admission Requirements -

• Students should have 60-75% in their 10+2 qualifying exam with a valid score in JEE Main.
• Students opting for MTech should have 60% in their BTech or BE exam.
• GATE qualified candidates of UIET Chandigarh are awarded a scholarship of INR 12400 every month.
• Selection will be based on the entrance exams.

• Placements have been consistently above 90% for the last six years.

TIET 

• The library has a collection of more than 89,746 books.
• It is fully air conditioned and is 25,000 square feet.
• They have 8 boys hostels and 5 girls hostels with Wi-fi enabled campus. 

UIET Chandigarh

• The campus area is 11 acres with 2 academic blocks including labs, offices, library, ATM and lecture halls.
• There are different blocks for mechanical labs and workshops.
• There are separate hostels for boys and girls including a dining mess, individual washrooms and sporting facilities.

Thapar (TIET) University will always be a better choice for pursuing ECE. It has a consistent placement record. According to the official website UIET Chandigarh has also seen 100% placement in the ECE department. ECE deals with researching, designing, developing and testing of electronic equipment. They also conceive and oversee manufacturing of communication devices and broadcast systems. It finally depends on the student’s choice.

KLE Technology University is one of the best private colleges in Hubli. NIRF ranked it 151 in the category of best engineering colleges of India. It has a total of 3500 undergraduates and 120 postgraduate students. KLE offers 18 courses across 4 streams. It has a limited number of seats and a campus area of 64 acres. It is recognized by both UGC and AICTE and affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University. There is an intake of 1200 vacant seats in B. Tech.

For changing the branch at KLE Technological University, there are two options.

• If you are allotted the ECE branch in first counselling, then you can apply for CSE in second or third counselling. If you have allotted ECE branch in second counselling, you can do the same procedure in the third round also. It is completely valid and acceptable to change the branches if you are not happy with the branch you have got.

• If you are in the first year and you want to change the branch for any of the reasons, then you only have one chance and one way and that is to score good enough. Scoring more than 8.5 CGPA is the only way in which you can change your branch in the first year. There should be no backlogs in the first year if you want to change branches.

These are the only options through which one can appear for changing the branches. These procedures work only if there are vacant seats in the CSE branch.

The electronics and Telecommunication branch requires a lot of hard work and dedication as the branch lacks core placements. 

• Making effective branch-related projects is the only way to do something in your domain. In NIT Raipur, there would be 1-2 core companies coming for placements, so it is a rat race where you have to win anyhow to get a core job. 
• If you are not interested in core jobs and are comfortable with the software domains, then you can opt for the CSE/IT branch as getting the software jobs with these branches would be easier. Electronics can be preferred after CSE/IT. 
• If you think that opting for Electronics and Telecommunication branch will keep your door open for both the core and software oriented jobs, then it's only the software part where you would be finally landing.

For further studies, research work, NIT Raipur is great as they focus more on academics and less on attendance.

Both NIT Warangal and MNNIT Allahabad are prestigious colleges in India, offering various undergraduate courses. NITs are always a good option in terms of placement, fees, faculty, and facilities. According to NIRF ranking 2020, NIT Warangal and MNNIT Allahabad stand at 26th and 48th rank respectively. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic both the colleges have maintained a good placement record. A total of 792 and 732 undergraduates were placed from MNNIT and NIT Warangal respectively.

Admission:

• The admission criteria remain the same for all NITs that are for admission into undergraduate courses students need to apply for JEE mains.

• For Postgraduate courses, students need to appear for the GATE exam. Admission will be done purely on the basis of rank obtained by the student.

• NIT Warangal has a total of 120 seats in the Mechanical branch and the cut-off rank is 6068-9243.

• MNNIT Allahabad has a total of 180 seats in the ECE branch and the cut-off rank is 4615-6752.

Faculty:

• NIT Warangal has more than 300 faculties and most of them are Ph.D. holders from national and international universities in their respective fields.

• On the other hand, MNNIT also has a good number of faculty guiding their students for the purpose of placement, research and development, excellent academics, and a lot more.

Course fees:

The course fee of the NITs is quite affordable. Students who avail the hostel and mess have a pay a bit more than the day borders.

Placements:

Both the NITs have an impressive placement record of placing more than 95% of its students.

• NIT Warangal has placed 80% of its students from the mechanical branch. The highest package offered was 11 LPA and the median package offered was 7 LPA. More than 150 companies visited the college for the placement drive.

• MNNIT has placed 116 students from the ECE branch. The highest package offered was 25.33 LPA and the median was 11 LPA. More than 200 companies visited the college for the placement drive.

Apart from academics, these colleges focus on extracurricular activities that include an annual tech-fest(eye-catching feature). Experienced faculty help the students in research and development. Both the NITs are a good option which can be proved because of its national rankings.
