Which one is the best: an M.Sc in Applied Psychology from Annamalai University’s distance education or an M.A in Applied Psychology from Chandigarh University’s distance education?

NT
Niraj Thakur Posted On : November 19th, 2022
Ph D in Psychology & Organizational Behavior, Periyar University (Graduated 2019)

It will be difficult to choose between Annamalai University and Chandigarh University, just as it is difficult to choose where to study when there are so many options. I recommend that you look into Chandigarh University's distance learning program. Chandigarh University's distance education department is relatively new, but it is very promising.

The Institute of Distance & Online Learning at Chandigarh University is UGC-DEB accredited, making it an approved distance learning program. Moving on, the facilities and support in distance programs are very helpful and student-friendly. First and foremost, you will receive all study materials and have free access to their online content, which includes videos, e-courses, SLM, and quizzes. Aside from multimedia and course materials, the CU LMS (Learning Management System for distance learners) includes features such as rubrics, teacher and instructor-facilitated learning, a discussion board, a course tracker, download and submit assignments, interact with faculty, and a virtual programming environment and e-library.

Furthermore, despite being a distance learner, you will be able to visit the campus, participate in numerous workshops and seminars, and gain first-hand experience with industry tools. With a curriculum that meets international and industry standards, you will also have access to the university's placement drive, which means you can even be placed via distance education.

My sister applied for the integrated Ph.D. program in Biological Sciences at JNCASR, a few years back. They mostly asked her practical based questions in the interview. She was given problem sets, aptitude questions, and analytical questions. Most of the questions are aimed to judge your analytical skills. Rather than memorizing try to understand the concepts.

How was your experience of doing an MS in the mechanical engineering department at IIT Madras?

TB
Tithi Banerjee Posted On : June 17th, 2023
B.Tech from Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2021)

My brother pursued his MS in Chemical Engineering from IIT Madras back in 2016 and these are some of his experiences for the overall MS program offered at IIT Madras-

  1. The MS program at IIT Madras is extremely fulfilling for students who want to pursue a career in research by going for a Ph.D. and Post Doc.
  2. The MS program is different from the M.Tech program. The M.Tech program is highly coursework oriented and is a better choice for securing a job.
  3. IIT Madras has, over the years, made efforts to give MS graduates an equal chance at placements.
  4. MS students tend to focus a lot more on their thesis as compared to M.Tech students.
  5. MS students are given an extra year to submit their thesis (2+1).
  6. An MS student, by the time of placement, will have worked extensively on a scientific topic and published at least one article in a reputed journal, or his article will be under review.
  7. This research work holds benefits during placements. The MS student’s CV is made impressive and data analysis and scientific reporting skills are highlighted. A little smart work will help you convince your interviewer of how these skills make you a suitable candidate for the offered position.
  8. Very few IITs offer an MS degree and many employers are unaware of this course.
  9. The MS degree becomes demanding and tough because you need to get an article published in an international journal to obtain your degree.

Though not specific to the Mechanical branch, I hope this information about the MS program at IIT Madras helped you gain important insights regarding the same.

Which one of these two is better for M.Sc in physics, IIEST Shibpur or NIT Durgapur? Are there any placements for M.Sc students at IIEST?

AS
Akriti Sinha Posted On : August 16th, 2022
B.Tech in Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology Durgapur

NIT Durgapur will be better for an M.Sc Physics. The quality of academics and exposure offered is better than any of the non-tech institutes in the region. Most students prepare for competitive examinations like NET, GATE, JEST, BARC, ISRO, etc. NITD also has collaborations with many national institutes and research labs.

Yes, IIEST offers placements to MSc students. But the salary packages offered aren’t very high.

Should I get into an MBA at Sydenham or try for an MSc. in Finance at JBIMS?

RD
Rochella Dsouza Posted On : February 21st, 2023
MMS in Marketing, Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (Graduated 2015)

Anyone but you can decide what’s best for you. Only you can make an informed decision based on your expectations and ability to take risks. However, I will recommend you opt MSc in Finance if you are sure about your career in the Finance sector and are ready for Finance roles. In case you are not very sure, try contacting some seniors from the institute or doing some research on LinkedIn. If even after researching your gut is not very sure about Finance then opt for a core MBA only.

By taking MBA, you can test your inclinations throughout the first year and find out if Finance is really your cup of tea rather than joining an MSc and regretting it later. A slight comparison between the 2 courses is given below

Brand: Brand-wise MBA/PGDM of Sydenham is a much older and bigger name in comparison to the MSc Finance of JBIMS.

Scope: The MSc in Finance at JBIMS has a much greater scope than MBA from Sydenham.

At JBIMS, both MMS and MSc Finance offer similar opportunities. Although many students exclusively target MSc. In finance, there tends to be an obvious preference for MMS. So in the near future either MSc Finance could be a separate course from MMS or even be discontinued. Not much can be said about this. So the only factor you should consider while deciding is your own inclinations.
