Forest Research Institute (FRI) is an institute concerned with the forestry sector in India. The M.sc, Ph.D., PGD, and other short term courses are designed to impart practical knowledge to the students of this institution in the Department of Forestry.
In terms of the M.Sc department, a few features need to be highlighted:
Academic Teaching
Infrastructure
The campus itself is well-equipped and designed appropriately to provide the students with an adequate practical experience in terms of –
Library
The library of FRI is widely known as the 2nd largest library on Forestry and allied subjects. It is updated frequently and well-maintained.
If your aim is Ph.D. then you would not face many problems because the opportunities for doing a research paper in this line of work are infinite. Throughout the course you will get sufficient time for preparation of Government exams, if you want to. The curriculum is lenient.
There a lot of drawbacks as well which should be taken into consideration –
So, you should not opt for FSI if you are considering getting enrolled in this institute. You can try to look at other better colleges or institutes with good placement rates and more widened scope.
For a masters degree in Environmental Science Central University of Punjab (CUPB) will be a better option. The research works conducted there are really good.
The department has good motivated students and a highly experienced faculty. Even the lab facilities are good enough for education purposes. In Central University Punjab there is one more term added to the course, that is technology.
| Categories | CUPB | CURAJ |
| Course Fee | INR 5040 | INR 12,989 |
| Average CTC | 3 LPA | 3-4 LPA |
Central University of Rajasthan (CURAJ) is also a good place for Environmental Science studies but overall CUPB is better than CURAJ.
Here are my insights as a former iMSc. Chemistry student at SVNIT-
Do not enroll into iMSc. Chemistry simply for the NIT tag. Do so only if you have a passionate interest in this course. You’ll have to put in a lot of effort from your own side. The faculty is very talented and the library has a good collection of books related to this field. But all of that will only help if you study religiously.
You’ll get a good understanding of the concepts of Chemistry through theoretical and practical sessions. The last semester will have dissertation work, which will be your introduction to the field of research.
The NIT tag will help you land good internships. You’ll get ample guidance from your teachers, but they can’t do the work for you. So you’ll have to search for good internships and projects all by yourself. The future of this stream mainly lies in research work and teaching. Institutes like Resonance, Akash, etc. visit the department with teaching vacancies.
These are the important details on integrated MSc. in Chemistry at SVNIT. The college offers good extracurricular activities, but don’t expect this journey to be all about fun.
The Mathematics department of NIT Jamshedpur offers premium education in the field of Mathematics. It provides several courses like
The department has around 12 highly qualified permanent faculty most of them being Ph.D. holders with a good knack for research knowledge. The faculty members are amicable and students can often be seen playing cricket with them on weekends.
A few courses covered under this program are
|
Introduction to Computer and Programming |
Numerical Analysis |
Complex Analysis |
|
Cryptography and number theory |
Real Analysis |
Fluid Mechanics |
|
Differential Equation |
Topology |
Linear Algebra |
A few companies that have recruited MSc Maths Students of NIT Jamshedpur are Resonance, Career Point, Awanti Pvt., Axis Institute, Fiitjee, Arka Jain University, Rao IIT, Infosys, etc
If you want to stand out among others in your master’s degree, you should pursue your master’s in a regular mode from a government university. This will later help you to pursue your further studies in post-graduate degrees, like Ph.D.
So it is suggested that you work a bit harder and try to get admission in a government college with the course offered in the regular mode. However, if you merely require a master’s degree, you can pursue it from any educational institution.
M.Sc in Information Security and Cyber Forensics is one of the most demanding courses at Madras University.
You will secure the opportunity to learn everything about security mechanisms used in different organizations like IDS, IPS, physical security, email security, business continuity planning, networking, cryptography, and relevant others, with the same backdrop. This course incorporates several handfuls of practical knowledge as well.
The institute also offers major placement opportunities because online security experts have been marked to be one of the leading people in the software industry. Various alumni of Madras University are now placed at different top-tier firms; E&Y and Infosys being two among the long list.
This course can be a major kickstart if you are enthusiastic about cyber forensics and information security. It is best to also simultaneously work on communication and soft skills to further secure a position at some of the top companies. This field will make you industry-ready, in light of the fact that the course is one of the leading among many right now.
You must first introspect if you really like coding or not. CSE is a trendy branch these days because of the high packages it offers. But those who land a job in top brands are deeply interested in, and an expert of coding. If you are genuinely interested in coding, NIT Surathkal CSE is a great option for you. It’s a good college with a good campus life.
I also pursued my dual degree with an MSc. in Economics from NIT Goa. The Economics department of my college is great. The curriculum is rich, and courses like Econometrics, MSM, Applied Econometrics, etc. are a great help when applying for placements in Analytics firms. Even for an MBA, an Economics degree is very useful. The faculty for Economics is great. MSc. Economics offers less burden than other specializations like Maths or Physics. The course offers very good electives like Security Analysis and Portfolio Management, Financial Management, etc. With a dual degree, you’ll get an extra year to choose your engineering branch.
Now if you opt for a dual degree from BITS Goa, be prepared to work really hard. The crowd is quite competitive. You’ll need to work hard to manage two programs simultaneously. The fees at BITS are quite high in comparison to NITs. NITs won’t provide you top-notch lodging and food facilities like BITS. For higher education too, the BITS tag holds more value. The curriculum at NITs isn’t as flexible as that offered at BITS.
Both are renowned colleges. You should make a choice based on your priorities.
This is a common dilemma faced by many who are applying for MSc. It requires a great research-oriented approach and thus the choice of the Institute should depend on the research work and projects offered by that institute. One needs a wide range of choices of courses so that you can select the one that matches your area of interest.
Before researching campus life, look up the faculty profiles available on the official website of the institutes. Once you come across a profile with the kind of research work you are looking for and want to work on, then choose that particular Institute.
My friend chose IIT Madras because she found diversity in the fields people worked in there. You can find people working in almost every field from Experimental Condensed Matter, Theoretical Condensed Matter, Nanotechnology, General relativity, and cosmology to String theory, Quantum computation, and chaos, High energy - particle physics, Theoretical and Experimental Optics, and Mathematical aspects.
IIT Madras maintains the right balance between Experimental and Theoretical Physics which is sometimes not possible at other IITs. Despite this many flocks to IIT Kharagpur mainly because of herd mentality. In reality, IIT Madras has a lot to offer provided you are committed to doing your part of your efforts.
Yes pursuing an MSc degree in Physics from the Central University of Kerala is a good choice. As it is a central university, you will receive decent academics. You will get to meet many people from all over the country. You will get to experience university life and its work culture first hand.
JBIMS MSc Finance focuses on Finance and placements in the same field and very few sales roles whereas MBA is a traditional business administration course wherein the first year has common electives and for the second year you have to select among Marketing - Finance, Operations (rare), HR(rare), IT (extremely rare).
Similarities:
Faculty: JBIMS is well known for its world-class Finance faculty and both courses are taught by almost the same faculty.
Prayag Festival: It is the annual festival of JBIMS and all the students irrespective to their courses participate in it.
Dissimilarities
The placement statistics, dates, and teams are completely different for both courses.
