If you're considering pursuing a Master of Science (MSc) in Biology at BITS Hyderabad, you may be wondering about your options for changing your specialization to computer science (CS) later on. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • BITS Hyderabad is known for its strong programs in both biology and computer science. While it's important to choose a program that aligns with your interests and career goals, attending a reputable institution can also be an advantage when it comes to job opportunities and networking.
  • To switch from the MSc in Biology program to CS at BITS Hyderabad, you'll need to be in the top 40 students out of a batch of 160 in your first year. This may sound challenging, but it's definitely achievable with hard work and dedication.
  • Maintaining a good CGPA (cumulative grade point average) in your first year will be crucial for your chances of transferring to the CS program. Aim for a CGPA of around 7.5-8.5 to increase your chances of being among the top 40 students.
  • It's important to note that transferring to the CS program may not be an easy or guaranteed process. You'll need to meet certain academic criteria and compete with other students for a limited number of spots. However, if you're passionate about computer science and willing to put in the effort, it could be a worthwhile pursuit.
  • Before committing to the MSc in Biology program at BITS Hyderabad, make sure to research the program's curriculum and faculty to ensure it aligns with your interests and career goals. Talk to current students and alumni to get a sense of their experiences in the program and how it has helped them in their careers.

Ultimately, the decision to pursue an MSc in Biology at BITS Hyderabad with the goal of switching to CS after the first year is a personal one that depends on your individual circumstances and goals yet it is the best option that you should choose over LNMIIT (CSE), IIEST Shibpur (IT), and IIITB (ECE). While it may be a challenging process, it could also be a rewarding and fulfilling journey for those who are passionate about computer science and willing to work hard to achieve their goals.

What should I do? I am confused on where I should take admission in Gujrat. Should I choose Nirma University, L.D. College or Dharmsinh Desai University? Which branch, CE or IT?

DR
Deboleena Roy Posted On : January 20th, 2021
Computer Engineering from Dharmsinh Desai University, Nadiad (2020)

Among the above institutes, an aid seat of Dharmsinh Desai University in CE would be the best option.

The following table gives the order of preference that a candidate should choose among the list of selected institutes.

Preference

Institute

Department

1

Dharmsinh Desai University

CE (aid seat)

2

Nirma University

CSE

3

Dharmsinh Desai University

CE (self-financed)

4

Dharmsinh Desai University

IT

5

L.D. College

CE or IT

Highlights supporting the above order of preference are discussed below.

  • CE is preferred over IT because CE (or CSE) contains more subjects, especially hardware and electronics papers. Also, placements in CE are better than IT, in most institutes.
  • Dharmsinh Desai University has a better faculty and teaching curriculum than Nirma University. A DIA (aid seat) in DDU has minimal fees too, so it is advised to choose first.
  • If you want to go for future studies in India or abroad, DDU and LD would be the better option.
  • In terms of placement and exposure, NIRMA leads in most cases among the above three. So, if you are just interested in placement, NIRMA is the better choice.

Overall Dharmsinh Desai University has the maximum advantages.

Which is better, NIT Hamirpur CSE or NIT Kurukshetra IT?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 1st, 2023
lives in New Delhi

There are two factors to consider while choosing your college, the institute itself and the branch you are getting.

In your case, NIT Kurukshetra is the better institute but CSE is the better branch. In such cases, you should prioritize the branch. That being said, CSE is a much wider and in-demand branch right now. The opportunities are infinite and not comparable to IT. In fact, for CSE, the institute doesn't even matter much because the job opportunities depend more on individual skills and passion for the field. If you are genuinely interested in CSE, the opportunity offered by NIT Hamirpur and NIT Kurukshetra will have only a hairline difference.

Parameters

NIT Kurukshetra

NIT Harimpur

Fees

INR 1.6 Lakhs (BTech first year)

INR 1.8 Lakhs (BTech first year)

Ranking by NIRF

28 out of 131 colleges in 2023

151 out of 200 colleges in 2021

Highest CTC

INR 1.25 CPA

INR 1.12 CPA (CSE)

Average CTC

INR 13.89 LPA

INR 12.84 LPA

Top Recruiters

ICICI Lombard, HCL Technologies, Microsoft, Adani Group

CRED, Stryker Corporation, Philips

As you can see, there isn't much difference in the packages. Moreover, you can opt for off-campus placements. One of my friends did so and secured a package of 1 crore in the USA. So, your interest in the field matters more than anything.

B.Tech. from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad, India

Here are some helpful tips for IT students starting their second year at MNNIT Allahabad.

  • The first tip is obvious, start coding. There are various online forums that you can use to learn and track your progress. Be consistent. Seek guidance from seniors who are good at coding.
  • Make connections. Find like-minded people. They will be your family away from home.
  • ‘AVISHKAR’ is a great opportunity to do mini projects of your interest. It’s not mandatory, but doing such projects will make your resume stand out.

3rd semester is easier than the rest of the semesters. It is easier to score as well. Second year is ideal for improving your CPI.
