What is the course fees structure for M.Tech CSE in IIT Kanpur?
The M.Tech CSE in IIT Kanpur is one of the reputed departments in the institute. The course curriculum has been designed to provide in-depth knowledge to the students and prepare them with industry-required skills.

What's your experience of attending M.Tech (nanoscience and engineering) interviews at IISc Bangalore?
My friend has the opportunity to attend MTech inter rhe at IISc Bangalore. She was called on the first day itself where she sat waiting and was eventually summoned.
As she entered the room, the panelists asked for her introduction. They bombarded her with both technical as well as non-technical questions. The non-technical ones looked like
- What made you choose nano-technology?
- What do you know about nanotechnology?
They kept counter-questioning her based on her answers. Following this was a round of technical questions. I have only mentioned the most important ones
- In the current times our electronic devices are becoming smaller, so what do you think?
- Draw the MOSFET structure on the board. The problems and the solution pertaining to it.
- What is the fastest bus?
The interview lasted for 40 minutes. What she learned from her experience was that you need to focus on your basics while preparing. Also, try to answer them honestly because they will counter-question you. She was also surprised that they did not even care to ask a single question about Math and the whole interview was a new experience.
What's your experience of attending M.Tech (nanoscience and engineering) interviews at IISc Bangalore ?
The interviews for the M.Tech (nanoscience and engineering) program are conducted on the campus of IISc Bangalore. The interviews usually take around 3 days to get completed. There will be 4 panels with 4 faculties each. Generally, around 200-300 participants are called for the interview. The interviews start with a few general questions, regarding the preference for the subject and introduction. Then the technical part of the interview starts, the interviews are not very technical or difficult, the questions asked in the interview are aimed to test the student and how eager the student’s basic knowledge is in the subject. Students are also asked questions from their UG Projects. A typical interview ranges for 40 minutes to an hour. To prepare for the interview, clear your basic understanding of the subject and follow the syllabus for undergraduate and GATE.
How is Mtech mechanical in IIT Hyderabad?

Overall, the placement conditions are decent and not all students get placed. Most CS companies allow only BTech students to sit for placements and therefore Mech students end up in service-based companies like TCS, and IBM (GBS). This poor placement scenario stems from the outdated CSE curriculum at NIT Rourkela. The curriculum focuses on theoretical concepts only and students are not exposed to practical experiences.
So, I will suggest you go for CSE M.tech at NIT Rourkela only if you are unemployed after your BTech or you want to pursue your career academically. Joining this course on the pretext of getting better jobs will not be a wise decision.
How good is IIT Roorkee for an MTech in VLSI?
VLSI is an excellent branch for those opting for Master's in IIT Roorkee. Apart from CSE, VLSI is the only branch offering high packages to its MTech students.
Most students are offered internships at Intel which are most likely to get converted to PPO under excellent performance. Some of the companies that offer the highest packages are Intel (23 LPA), Qualcomm (25 LPA), Texas Instrument, Samsung Semiconductor, etc.
Most MTech Electrical students tend to go for VLSI because of the huge packages. VLSI jobs have excellent job locations such as Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, etc
Thus, VLSI has a great scope not just in IIT Roorkee but other newer and older IITs too.
How is the M.Tech electrical placement at BITS Pilani?
BITS Pilani offers decent placement support to students from the M.Tech. and B.Tech. batches. The chances are higher for the one who has a master’s in Mechanical Engineering. BITS Pilani conducts the placement process in two semesters. During the first semester, about 15-20 companies, including Intel, Qualcomm, Broadcom, SanDisk, Nvidia, Cisco, and so on, visit the campus. In the second semester, the placement is done based on your CGPA, as the companies mostly prefer students who score a CGPA above 8.
Is IIIT Lucknow a good option for doing an M.Tech or not?
The M.Tech program in Computer Science (CS) at IIIT Lucknow is worth considering if you cannot get into other similar institutions such as IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Bangalore, IIIT Allahabad, NIT Warangal, NIT Trichy, and NIT Karnataka.
- Though the M.Tech program started only in 2019, companies such as Google, Microsoft, Directi, LinkedIn, Codenation, etc. visit the campus for placements of B.Tech students. So if you are skilled enough, it does not really matter if you are a B.Tech or M.Tech student. The placement records of B.Tech graduates suggest that they are comparable to NIT Calicut, NIT Rourkela, and IIIT Allahabad graduates.
- In fact, looking at the NIRF data of colleges such as IIIT Allahabad, it is clear that M.Tech students are more in demand in the industry due to lack of quality students along with their added research experience in the field.
- The curriculum of the course is also very well designed, offering specializations in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. These are the most demanding subjects in the industry currently and if you study well enough, securing a job should not be difficult.
- As this is a new course, you will not get the alumni advantage, the first batch is yet to pass-out, you could still connect with your B.Tech alumni as well as alumni from IIIT Allahabad (both the colleges were on the same campus until very recently).
- Alternatively, you could also hang out with your B.Tech peers and learn from them as well, because they have a very well-laid-out course structure along with a very competitive culture in coding.
- You should also consider studying with the PhDs as the knowledge and in-depth research they conduct in areas such as Machine learning will eventually help you to get a competitive advantage.
So all in all, IIIT Lucknow is a very good option for doing an M.Tech which will sharpen your skills and prepare you for the journey ahead.
What are the packages offered at NIT Trichy branch-wise in an MTech ME?
The packages offered to the students of NIT Trichy who are pursuing M.Tech ME according to what branches they are in are as follows:
- Thermal Power Engineering: The package can be from INR 7 LPA to as high as INR 16 LPA. Some packages may range from INR 10 to 11 LPA as well.
- Non-Destructive Testing: You can expect certain placement with packages in the range of INR 3 to 6 LPA. Students in this branch are eligible for most other companies if they have completed B.Tech in mechanical.
- Energy Engineering: An average placement of INR 7 LPA. Like NDT, you may try your luck in other companies too where B.Tech is required.
- Safety Engineering: You may be offered an average package of INR 6 LPA. The same can be said about the students who are in the Industrial Metallurgy branch.
- Welding Engineering: This branch promises certain placement and ranges from INR 4 to 7 LPA.
- Manufacturing Technology: 80% placement is guaranteed by this branch with packages of around INR 6-7 LPA offered to the students.
- IEM: The average package will be around INR 7-8 LPA with an 80% guarantee. Recent placements from this branch have not been good lately and if you are from a mechanical background purely then you will most probably not be preferred but companies dealing in analytics and management may have use for your skills.
Finally, most of the students in the civil branch are not seen in high regard for me. The placement percentage is from 50 to 70, unfortunately.
