Can someone share their interview experience of MBA from DMS, IIT Delhi?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : April 1st, 2023
lives in New Delhi

My friend was an Economics fresher and appeared for an MBA interview at DMS, IIT Delhi. The answer is courtesy of his experience with the panelists.

The entire procedure comprised of WAT, Documents Verification, ECA document verification, and PI

Everything was done systematically and in an organized manner. The WAT was a 30-minute process and she was made to write on Outsourcing. After the ECA, she was escorted to the interview room where she found 2 female panelists.

They asked for her brief introduction, something that is more than just her name and educational background. On hearing about her passion for writing she asked what kind of writing she was into.

Owing to her interest in hockey, they asked her some related questions like

  • what improvements does the Indian Hockey team need
  • Who was her role model from the team and why
  • Why she did not pursue a hockey career
  • Did she choose the game because of it being the national game ( which it is not thus being a trick)

Next she was asked about her School life, age, and past academics. She walked if she had any prior working experience. Being an economics student they asked her

  • What is elasticity and asked her to draw a graph
  • They asked her what would happen if the demand for a water bottle would be increased

Lastly they asked her about her weakness after which she was asked to leave. The overall interview was a good experience mainly because the panelists, one of which was an alumnus, were friendly and lightened the tension.

Which is better: PGDM or MBA from NMIMS?

DM
Deeksha Maurya Posted On : January 18th, 2022
B.Tech from SVKM's NMIMS (2020)

MBA and PGDM are more or less similar. The latter is considered to be a diploma and the former a degree. The Mumbai campus of NMIMS provides an MBA degree and a PGDM degree.

If you pursue an MBA you will be studying more of the theoretical aspects of management. An MBA institute will be following a fixed curriculum as it will be based on the university guidelines.

If you are  pursuing a PGDM course you will be gaining knowledge regarding building soft skills and the programme is more industry-oriented. An autonomous institute does not have to follow university standards, so it is free to change its curriculum according to industry standards and change in the business environment. The course will prepare you for a senior level position in a company.

It is suggested that if you are willing to do business management, be it MBA or PGDM, consider only the Mumbai campus, as it has better placements and opportunities than Hyderabad or Bangalore.

Is a BITS Pilani MBA good or bad?

PS
Prateek Sharma Posted On : August 5th, 2023

The campus won’t play a major role in your future. It is based on the talent and skills of the student in the core subject. You should strive hard for a better future.

BITS Pilani is not good at placement when compared with other leading institutes in India like IITs and IIMs, but BITS is better than the third-grade institutes. So it is better to focus on your improvement in the subject rather than the college.

How is life at SP Jain (SPJIMR) for a full time MBA (PGDM)?

MJ
Manash Jyoti Posted On : March 6th, 2023
Masters of Business Administration Degrees, Jain University

Life at all the top B Schools in India for MBA aspirants is pretty much the same. It’s hectic and rigorous but highly knowledgeable. The B Schools offer an insight into the various angles of Management in a period of 2 years through excellently designed pedagogy and curriculum.

Coming to SPJIMR specifically, has a blend of a variety of features that sets it apart from other top B Schools. Some of these include Innovative pedagogy, Profile-based interview calls, ADMAP, DOCC, Abhyudaya, Global Fast Track, and Autumn placement structure. But the one aspect my answer will solely focus on is the amazing culture of SPJIMR which is like no other B School.

  • Harmony: When it comes to student connectivity, SPJIMR really does steal the show. While many B Schools have witnessed cases wherein ragging and bringing down rivals is a common occurrence, SPJIMR refuses to adopt this culture. There is tremendous harmony among the students such that if someone was struck during a presentation, the whole class would try their level best to save him from embarrassment. Such small acts speak highly of the student connection which was observed even by many professors who had visited other B Schools too.
  • Collaboration: The much-heated events in a B School are Corporate Competitions that are said to bring out the worst side of people. Other B Schools have competitions where competitors are treated as rivals and there is tough competition. Interestingly enough, SPJIMR has a very different outlook on the same. SPJIMR students collaborate with each other while preparing for these competitions. Basically, students help out their batchmates before themselves, and this results in a beautiful bond between them.
  • Placement Committee: It is very common for a placement committee to be rude toppers who are always causing constant wars between the students. They become placeCom mainly for upgrading their CV. But SPJIMR Placement Committee is yet again very different in the sense that its sole purpose is to get its students the best placements. They conduct elaborate discussions to formulate training plans for the students to face the tough placements. They are friendly yet stern.

I know many may criticize me for jotting such minor points in reference to campus life at SPJIMR. But in my opinion, the culture of an Institute is a very important parameter as it determines what kind of relationships you will have with your peers and the kind of friends you will have for a lifetime. You get to have the best alumni network as a cherry on top.

Can I do MBA from IIM Ahmedabad after BSc

PR
Parth Reddy Posted On : August 18th, 2023
Studied at IIM Ahmedabad

As long as you fulfill all the criteria required to get admission to IIM Ahmedabad, your academic background does not matter. That being said, here are the requirements to get shortlisted for IIM Ahmedabad admission.

  • 80% above in 10th and 12th (any specialized subject)
  • 70% above in graduation (any stream)
  • 98 CAT percentile (may be lower, depending on your graduation course)

Anyone who has fulfilled the above criteria is eligible to get admission to IIM Ahmedabad. What actually matters is your performance in GD/PI. However, it’s important to note that the above criteria are general and the chances of admission depend on the individual profiles and performances. Fulfilling these criteria increases your chances of admission to IIM Ahmedabad but does not guarantee it.

An extra point to remember for you is that you will be getting diversity points because of your BSC background. This will help you get admission even with a low CAT score compared to engineering or BCom students. AS An BSc student, you will have to make the interviewers believe that you ha always targeted an MBA and not an MSc.

I got admission (PGDM) opportunity from IIM Rohtak and IIM Udaipur! Should one go or sit for CAT again this year? Any suggestions?

AM
Abhineet Mitra Posted On : May 7th, 2022
K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research (2020)

Take CAT again, only if you are sure you will be able to convert an old IIM. Otherwise, go for IIM Udaipur. For an MBA, you shouldn’t choose a college based solely on placements. Placement will only help with the first job but what you will learn during your MBA will help you excel throughout your career. In that sense, the new IIMs are gradually catching up with the old ones. The curriculum and teaching methodology followed by IIM Udaipur is similar to that of the old IIMs. Most of the faculty members of the institute are well-experienced.

Being part of a new IIM is a different kind of experience. You will get to build up the culture of that college. Also, after your first job, the benefit of old IIM gets neutralized by your job performance.

Yes, IMT Ghaziabad is an institute with an excellent placement scenario and several opportunities for MBA aspirants, and so is definitely worth doing an MBA. It is considered to be a top-notch Business-school in India and is ranking constantly among the top institutes, with a legacy of over 40 years now.

After interacting with some alumni and various legitimate platforms, the points below can be stated as a review of IMT Ghaziabad.

  • Previously around 2018-20, the batch comprised 549 students. The average package was around 13.60 LPA. The highest international package has reached a whopping amount of 58.22 LPA.
  • Marketing in IMT Ghaziabad is considered to be the best branch for students, and for aspirants looking for a career in marketing, it is one of the best institutes.
  • The “Student Exchange Programme” by Business today marked IMT Ghaziabad as rank-1 some years back. It is therefore evident that IMT Ghaziabad has a lot of International Exposure.
  • IMT Ghaziabad is the 3rd Business school in India to be accredited by AACSB. International recruiters look into this as a huge reputation for hiring from IMT Ghaziabad.
  • The batch size is reduced in the consecutive batches, so there is a lesser amount of competition in the institute.

The points mentioned above depict a clear picture of the progress of IMT Ghaziabad in the previous years, and even growing with time. Therefore, it is an excellent choice for MBA aspirants.

What is ranking of NMIMS in MBA colleges?

AG
Akriti Gupta Posted On : September 27th, 2023

The NMIMS rating among MBA schools is quite remarkable. NMIMS is performing exceptionally well in both rankings and placements.

The NAAC gave NMIMS its initial accreditation with an A+ grade. This was based on the institution's development into an exceptional one, as well as its performance and contribution to management education.

The following table shows the recent ranking of the institute in the management category:

Ranking Body

Ranking (In the year 2023)

NIRF

21

IIRF

25

FT

83

Business Today

10th among top B-schools

So, it can be concluded that NMIMS (Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies) consistently ranks among the top business schools in India. Its ranking may vary across different surveys and years but is generally within the top 20-30 in national rankings.
