My friend was an Economics fresher and appeared for an MBA interview at DMS, IIT Delhi. The answer is courtesy of his experience with the panelists.
The entire procedure comprised of WAT, Documents Verification, ECA document verification, and PI
Everything was done systematically and in an organized manner. The WAT was a 30-minute process and she was made to write on Outsourcing. After the ECA, she was escorted to the interview room where she found 2 female panelists.
They asked for her brief introduction, something that is more than just her name and educational background. On hearing about her passion for writing she asked what kind of writing she was into.
Owing to her interest in hockey, they asked her some related questions like
Next she was asked about her School life, age, and past academics. She walked if she had any prior working experience. Being an economics student they asked her
Lastly they asked her about her weakness after which she was asked to leave. The overall interview was a good experience mainly because the panelists, one of which was an alumnus, were friendly and lightened the tension.
MBA and PGDM are more or less similar. The latter is considered to be a diploma and the former a degree. The Mumbai campus of NMIMS provides an MBA degree and a PGDM degree.
If you pursue an MBA you will be studying more of the theoretical aspects of management. An MBA institute will be following a fixed curriculum as it will be based on the university guidelines.
If you are pursuing a PGDM course you will be gaining knowledge regarding building soft skills and the programme is more industry-oriented. An autonomous institute does not have to follow university standards, so it is free to change its curriculum according to industry standards and change in the business environment. The course will prepare you for a senior level position in a company.
It is suggested that if you are willing to do business management, be it MBA or PGDM, consider only the Mumbai campus, as it has better placements and opportunities than Hyderabad or Bangalore.
The campus won’t play a major role in your future. It is based on the talent and skills of the student in the core subject. You should strive hard for a better future.
BITS Pilani is not good at placement when compared with other leading institutes in India like IITs and IIMs, but BITS is better than the third-grade institutes. So it is better to focus on your improvement in the subject rather than the college.
This is a frequently asked question among students navigating higher education decisions.
Important considerations:
For the most accurate information, contact the college admission office directly or consult the official prospectus and website.
Life at all the top B Schools in India for MBA aspirants is pretty much the same. It’s hectic and rigorous but highly knowledgeable. The B Schools offer an insight into the various angles of Management in a period of 2 years through excellently designed pedagogy and curriculum.
Coming to SPJIMR specifically, has a blend of a variety of features that sets it apart from other top B Schools. Some of these include Innovative pedagogy, Profile-based interview calls, ADMAP, DOCC, Abhyudaya, Global Fast Track, and Autumn placement structure. But the one aspect my answer will solely focus on is the amazing culture of SPJIMR which is like no other B School.
I know many may criticize me for jotting such minor points in reference to campus life at SPJIMR. But in my opinion, the culture of an Institute is a very important parameter as it determines what kind of relationships you will have with your peers and the kind of friends you will have for a lifetime. You get to have the best alumni network as a cherry on top.
As long as you fulfill all the criteria required to get admission to IIM Ahmedabad, your academic background does not matter. That being said, here are the requirements to get shortlisted for IIM Ahmedabad admission.
Anyone who has fulfilled the above criteria is eligible to get admission to IIM Ahmedabad. What actually matters is your performance in GD/PI. However, it’s important to note that the above criteria are general and the chances of admission depend on the individual profiles and performances. Fulfilling these criteria increases your chances of admission to IIM Ahmedabad but does not guarantee it.
An extra point to remember for you is that you will be getting diversity points because of your BSC background. This will help you get admission even with a low CAT score compared to engineering or BCom students. AS An BSc student, you will have to make the interviewers believe that you ha always targeted an MBA and not an MSc.
Take CAT again, only if you are sure you will be able to convert an old IIM. Otherwise, go for IIM Udaipur. For an MBA, you shouldn’t choose a college based solely on placements. Placement will only help with the first job but what you will learn during your MBA will help you excel throughout your career. In that sense, the new IIMs are gradually catching up with the old ones. The curriculum and teaching methodology followed by IIM Udaipur is similar to that of the old IIMs. Most of the faculty members of the institute are well-experienced.
Being part of a new IIM is a different kind of experience. You will get to build up the culture of that college. Also, after your first job, the benefit of old IIM gets neutralized by your job performance.
