Despite the aspirant's demand to postpone the NEET MDS 2024 exam, the Supreme Court has rejected the plea saying that the postponement will affect over 28000 candidates appearing for the exam on March 18, 2024. Check updates here!

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has rejected the plea to reschedule the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) Master of Dental Surgery (MDS 2024) to July 2024. The NEET MDS 2024 exam will now be held as per schedule on March 18, 2024.
At the court hearing, the National Dental Commission (NDC) shared that postponing the NEET MDS 2024 exam will impact over 28,000 candidates who are preparing to appear for the same on March 18, 2024. The commission shared that NDC is committed to restoring the exam schedule to its initial timeline.
CJI DY Chandrachud shared, “An effort is made by NDC to bring back on rails the commencement of dental courses, this cannot be regarded as arbitrary to seek intervention of court.....on parameters of judicial review, we think it is inappropriate to interfere at this stage, we decline to intervene in the present matter.”
Challenges Faced by NEET MDS Aspirants
Talking about the Supreme Court’s decision, Dr Sumangal Bose, a NEET MDS 2024 aspirant said, "Many candidates had hoped for a change in the academic calendar to align MBBS and BDS counselling schedules. Despite promises to advance BDS counselling, this did not materialize, affecting the eligibility of numerous BDS students due to COVID-19 batch delays”.
“Moreover, candidates who are yet to complete their internships won't be eligible, with the revised cutoff date ending in June. This decision potentially limits the number of candidates accommodated for the exam, impacting thousands who could have been included with a later cutoff date”, he further added.
Raising their concerts, another NEET MDS aspirant, Dr Ayesha Nazrin shared that approximately 8000 candidates have been left out including those who are still completing their internships.
Others raised their concerns about the delay in NEET MDS 2024 Admit Card, out only 2 days before the exam and the lack of specific city names for NEET MDS exam centers, causing candidates to face travel challenges.

"They have revised the eligibility criteria just 10 days before the examination. But there are more than 20 subjects. How will the candidates who have become eligible as per the revised criterion, prepare for the examination? There should be at least three months between the notification and the exam date to prepare for any national-level examination," highlights Dr Bose.
Earlier, the Union Government extended the date for internship cut-off date from March 31, 2024, to June 30, 2024 for NEET MDS. The decision came after requests by NEET MDS candidates to postpone the exam.
The petition was submitted as a response to the National Board of Examinations' rescheduling of NEET PG 2024, which is currently scheduled for July 7, 2024, with an August 15, 2024 cutoff date. This reshuffling resulted in claims of delay in deadlines as per the initial NEET MDS schedule.
