From 2026, SSN College of Engineering will function as a private university school, with new admission rules, higher fees, and a fresh identity under Shiv Nadar University Chennai.

Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar (SSN) College of Engineering, one of the top private engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu, will soon merge with Shiv Nadar University Chennai. Starting from the 2026–27 academic year, SSN will be called the SSN School of Engineering under Shiv Nadar University.
The goal of this merger is to bring together the strengths of both institutions. By integrating with SNU, SSN College of Engineering aims to expand its academic offerings, promote more research opportunities, and provide students with a multidisciplinary learning environment.
"The university will permit closure after getting a no-objection certificate from the state govt. We wanted to merge Shiv Nadar University and SSN College of Engineering to have one world-class institution offering multidisciplinary programmes. This college will be called SSN School of Engineering under Shiv Nadar University," an official said.
What Will Change After the SSN–Shiv Nadar University Merger?
New Name: SSN Engineering College will be renamed as the SSN School of Engineering and will function under Shiv Nadar University.
New Admission Process: Until now, admissions were mostly based on Class 12 marks through Anna University’s counselling system. After the merger, students will need to clear an entrance exam and an interview to secure admission.
New Fees: The cost of studying will also change. Fees will be aligned with Shiv Nadar University’s structure. For example, a B.Tech course will cost around INR 3.5 lakh per year, which is higher compared to the earlier fees charged for government quota seats at SSN.
Impact on Current SSN Students
Students who are already studying at SSN need not worry. They will continue under Anna University’s affiliation and complete their degree as planned. Even students admitted in 2025–26 will graduate with an Anna University degree. The new system will apply only to those joining from the 2026–27 batch.
