SIU Pune has partnered with Aston University to provide a research platform for innovation, industry collaboration, and solving global challenges. The aim is to create a global-level platform for high-impact multidisciplinary research.

SIU Pune and Aston University Launches Symbiosis Ashton Research Academy

Symbiosis International University (SIU Pune) and Aston University, Birmingham, UK announced the launch of a global, multidisciplinary research platform on January 27, 2025. Inspired by the IIT Monash model, Symbiosis Aston Research Academy (SARA) was established with a focus on research innovations through industry collaborations and joint research projects. Furthermore, SARA will offer dual degree PhD programs under the supervision of both institutions.

SIU Pune and Aston University will co-create and provide a global research environment to focus on:

  • Joint PhD programs with supervision from the faculty of both universities.
  • Combined multidisciplinary research across key disciplines/areas.
  • Partner with industry leaders and businesses for sponsored research and to address socio-economic problems.

SARA Multidisciplinary Research Areas and Key Details

SIU Pune and Aston University Launches Symbiosis Ashton Research Academy

SARA will focus on research across key areas including Applied Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Bioscience & Biotechnology, Climate Change & Sustainability, Nano Science & Nano Technology, Medical Device Technology, Medical Image Analysis, Sustainable Energy, Smart Sensors, Digital & Media Technologies, and Business & Entrepreneurship among others.

The research academy will also host a variety of initiatives, such as seminars, workshops, and annual symposiums. SARA will be funded and managed by both SIU Pune and Aston University, but it will be physically located at SIU, Lavale, Pune.

Both the universities will provide a dual degree PhD program to focus on multidisciplinary research. Students will collaborate on a wide range of projects and activities under the co-supervision of both universities. PhD scholars will work on the research projects across campuses in India and the UK.
